http://www.betadot.com/sony-to-present-ps3-at-ces/2005-347/

"An announcement from Sony Computer Entertainment of America says that Sony will be demonstrating their Playstation 3 in January.

The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas will start in January and Sony will be demonstrating their Playstation 3 in an attempt to gain more sales.

Sony intends on making a grand display of their Playstation 3 by acquiring the central stand at the CES, a total of 12,000 sq ft.

Howard Stringer is said to be planning a public appearance during this unvieling as well."

DEFINITIVE WORD ON BLU-RAY LAUNCH AT CES

We'll know full details in January apparently, but it'll be spring 2006 when we first get our hands on the next-gen disk format, probably in the PS3

12:33 The Blu-ray group, the trade federation responsible for pushing the next-gen disk format of the same name and numbering Sony amongst its members, will unveil its launch plans for the next-gen DVD format at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.

However, it'll be spring 2006 before we see the first wave of devices which are able to use the format and with the PS3 currently still slated for a release around that time (well in Japan anyway), it may well spearhead the new format onto a wave of consumer electronic devices.

Andy Parsons, a spokesman for the Blu-ray group said, "At CES, you're likely to hear some announcements from a number of companies as to when you'll see our products on the market." Could this mean a firm date for the PS3 to be unveiled? Well possibly as Sony has already confirmed Blu-ray as the PS3's disk format, but it's unlikely we'll get the definitive word on a PS3 release via a Blu-ray back door.

this news is from early December, and I still haven't seen an official acknowledgement of PS3 being shown in any proper form.

That said, I'll be there.

Sony has been quiet. Too quiet lately. The PS3 blowout is almost here.

One thing that I always find interesting is how everyone says there seems to be problems between continuity with SCEI, SCEA, and SCEE. How they don't always work together nicely. However, they've all stayed extremely quiet regarding the PS3. No leaks at all. 360 leaks were flying everywhere before launch yet Sony has been able to keep a lid on everything, from themselves to even developers.

:lol They don't need to work together to heed a loud "STFU!" from higher up the food chain at Sony.

Sony are good like that.
MTV: Disappointment from X360 fans...by the time E3 rolls around, confidence rebuilt, Sony bitchslaps them. Confidence shaken, by the time TGS rolls around they're gaining it back...Sony bitchslaps them again. Confidence shaken [...] CES [...] bitchslap.

Well I realize this, but I think all the talk about the disorganization inside of Sony is a bunch of crap if the entire worldwide company can keep quiet on it. Every company has their problems and I think the problems inside Sony are overstated.

Until I see proper games (preferably playable on actual PS3s) then I won't believe anything said or shown at CES. If the launch is so close, surely they will have playable demos ready for next month?

I'm interested and a little frightful for what Sony may have in store at CES. I'm hoping I didn't buy a 400 dollar doorstep. If what Sony brings at CES is their E3 level movie quality then I think it is a tough road ahead for MS. If you read between the lines from developer comments about various games (Latest one being Fight Night), they are all hinting PS3 is going to be a step up from Xbox 360. Perhaps a significant one.

Dont be silly.
They will be pretty much equal.

Where is that PS3 milestone schedule again? I don't remember CES being a significant date there, just ISCC -> E3 -> TGS -> Playstation Conference -> Launch.

Since CES is an electronics show and not really a games show, I don't expect any games to be playable to the public there. Maybe they'll demo an actual game or two (not tech demo), but that's it I think.

CES is the place where I'd expect more about the hardware and all of its multimedia capabilities. Perhaps they'll reveal the interface (OS / final controller?), more details about the Bluray player inside of the PS3, final PS3 hardware on the outside (little changes perhaps, launch colors if any other than silver) and perhaps some spec changes if there are any.

Other than that, perhaps they'll reveal more about the launch.

I think us gamers have to wait until february for a full games blowout.

Why? Because they both have a 3.2 ghz processor and 512 Megs Ram?

Would you say both of these processors are equal too between an Athlon 3000 and an Athlon 64 3000? They run at the same clockspeed.

Hmm, odd I remember E3 being on that list too.

I doubt they'll focus on games at CES.There will be a lot of Blu Ray related announcements with the first movies announced on the BR format.
But I hope I'm wrong and at least new trailers of SCEA's games will be shown.

While I fully believe that CES will focus heavily on Blu-Ray, you have to remember that Blu-Ray isn't just Sony. Sure they are arguably the most prominent company in the consortium, but I don't see them spending such a large amount of money by themselves solely to promote Blu-Ray.

Sony is going to use CES to show why Cell and Blu-Ray, together, are going to revolutionize the consumer electronics business. And there is a single piece of hardware that has been designed and admitted as the core method in which this message will be delivered: The PlayStation 3.

I'm fully expecting the CES show to be a massive three pronged attack of Cell, PS3 and Blu-Ray, and I'm extremely excited. Playable games and whatnot will likely be held until the Feb show, but I can deal with that.

Full PS3 details revealed? Very likely. Fucking crazy exciting times ahead.

Playstation3 won't arrive in the U.S. until September 2006 at the soonest.
Sept-Nov 2006 is the launch timeframe.

spring 2006 is just for Japan.

Why hello Mr. Hirai, welcome to GAF. Please, confirm 2007 launch for Europe whilst you are at it.

Yah the February even if their big one. They've said they have a surprise for gamers there. But they could still show some SCEE/SCEA trailers as CES and possibly some new 3rd party trailers.

You know I was thinking I might SPRING over to L.V. to check out the PS3 at CES. But then its SPINGS to mind that since the console is arriving in stores a couple of months later in the SPRING, there is no need for me to SPRING for the expense and SPRING through all those hoops to find a hotel room at this point.

Yah yah we all know you don't think its possible that it'll launch then.
