Chances for an L.A. Noire sequel?

I loved L.A. Noire. The music, the art direction, the near-perfect recreation of 1947 Los Angeles, and the writing. Gameplay was pretty fantastic too. A solid foundation for the cop procedural style of adventure game. It's now been almost 3 years since L.A. Noire's release, so what say you GAF? What are the chances for a sequel? And do you even care?

Personally, I would like to see them tackle another city and have the film noir style as the recurring theme. Maybe Chicago Noire.

There was definitely some good stuff in there but the game turned out to be a total snooze fest. Have any other games used that facial expression tech? It was really cool.

Considering it's commercial failure (relative to the budget) and now defunct studio, probably a 0% chance

It sold very well, plus I believe Rockstar said it could be a big franchise for them,so I'd say very good

Really? I was always under assumption it didn't do well considering development costs

A sequel could exist without the original studio (Team Bondi), considering Rockstar helped out fairly extensively for a number of years.

I don't think there's any chance for an actual sequel for LA Noire, considering the developer is toast and Rockstar probably wouldn't want to work with the main "visionary" behind the game again. But I do think there's a pretty good chance that some time down the line Rockstar will revisit the franchise and reimagine it in their own way similar to how they took Red Dead Revolver and made Red Dead Redemption from it.

Yep. Rockstar owns it , so no worries about the original team or director been involved.

Rockstar on February 2012 said:
Don't count out the possibility of a new game in the L.A. Noire franchise in the future," the post reads. "We simply have not decided anything. We're all very pleased with how that game turned out and are considering what the future may hold for L.A. Noire as a series. We don't always rush to make sequels, but that does not mean we won't get to them eventually – see Max and Red Dead for evidence of that – we have so many games we want to make and the issue is always one of bandwidth and timing.

This is my stance on it. A straight sequel won't happen, but a spiritual successor isn't out of question. Rockstar has done it before with Red Dead and to a lesser extent Max Payne, though they also let Bully just die :(

Yeah, but LA Noire is already the same style of game that Rockstar uses throughout all their games. And to be honest, I really wouldn't want the gameplay to change that much. Just fix how repetitive it was and boom, instant hit.

It's not though. It seems like it kinda is from a casual comparison, but there's really nothing Rockstar about LA Noire aside from some of the polish they put on it before shipping. There isn't even a real open world. There's nothing to really explore, there are no activities, there any interaction outside from the scripted stuff in the story. Rockstar games are defined by how it's possible to ditch the main story for hours to just "live" in the world and do other things. LA Noire had none of that.

I really liked L.A. Noire but found driving around the city the most boring part of the game. It really never felt fun. Spent most of the time letting my partner drive with the only exception being the car chases where it put you behind the wheel.

Isn`t team bondi working on whore of the orient?

so theres that

I thought that was cancelled? Maybe I heard wrong. The haven't really used that face capture technology they created for the game on anything else right?

It sold 5 million units. If it ever does get made, I imagine it would be by one of their internal studios (like Red Dead).

Max Payne 3 is a linear game. So Rockstar games aren't tied to being open world.

Playing this in 3D on the PC was so surreal, such a good game. The web of lines above the streets that the trolleys run on would be so cool looking in real life

Rockstar Leeds did a lot of the work piecing the final game together so it's not impossible they would wheel out a sequel, but it's not super likely either.

Some fractional number of a number down below the 100ths ... The game was fun but the studio is now defunct right?

I have to say tho ... like 99% of the people in that game were fucking loathsome human beings! So hard to find a character to root for.

I've been meaning to make a thread about how the lip-syncing in L.A. Noire is unmatched. Is it still the best?

I loved LA Noire, one of my favorites last gen. Who owns the facial animation tech now? Rockstar? If I can't get a sequel I at least want a game using that awesome tech.

It's a privately-held company, not owned by Rockstar. The director of L.A. Noire has a stake in it, and some venture capital firms probably own a significant portion of the company as well.

I loved a lot of the style and storytelling chops of L.A. Noire... I'd buy into a sequel.

It's a shame that everything that went down scuppered our chances.

Maybe we'll see a Whore of the Orient reveal at E3!
Unlikely...

One thing I hated about the game was that in the end
the choices didn't really matter as you'll always get the same end with every case/SPOILER] it sucks too cause I loved seeing people from mad men in it and the fact the soundtrack to me was top notch
That was probably the only disappointing part of the game for me. Which is why I want another one, so they can improve those elements of the game. Make choice matter more, have more branching paths, real consequence, etc.

They all had post war issues to deal with though so I thought that made it feel genuine and the characters more interesting.

I really hope Rockstar just doesn't ditch the IP. L.A. Noire was one of my favorite games of 2011 and the first I went to a midnight release for. I also shamefully bought every piece of DLC. The clue hunting and interrogating was fresh to me. It wasn't perfect, but I loved it and I still play it once a year or so.

If Whore of the Orient is still a thing, then we might get a spiritual successor. But as mentioned, it's probably dead for now with the potential for a revival / reimagining by Rockstar in the future.

Yeah, it was the first time I bought a season pass! The DLC was excellent!

Honestly, at the time I was expecting it to be red dead with cops and robbers but knowing it was handled by a totally different team I should've known better lol.

I really wanted to like L.A. Noire, and I've made 3 or 4 attempts to play through it, but I just can't. MrBTounge explains why pretty well.

I made it through the game once but I share many of the same views MrBTounge states in the video (which I hadn't before seen, so thanks for the link). The gunplay sections seemed so jarring compared to the rest of the game. It seemed Detective Phelps killed more people in LA than he did in the war.

I do have one major difference concerning his view on the investigative parts of the game. Since I'm an old fart, the click-to-investigate mechanic wasn't really all that new to me. Anyone who played Police Quest back in the day, especially Police Quest: Open Season, would be right at home with the way LA Noire handled the investigative sections. Don't get me wrong, it was fun to do again since the investigative Police Quest games died in the mid-90's.

Rockstar has said in the past that L.A. Noire is an important franchise so there is hope. I dont think the closure of Team Bondi would affect development of a sequel. I would be more concerned with setting, story, cases and characters. I hope that facial technology would come back as well.

I could see a sequel outside of L.A. like Chicago and call it the Noire franchise.

Brilliant game in my opinion. Loved it.

Gope there will be more and they can refine the IP. I understand some of the critical comments it received but they didnt detract from me enjoying it.

LA Noire was almost handled well.

Some great moments with a lot of dull moments and sometimes a game can use dull moments to really hit a note on the exciting moments... but LA Noire just didn't do it well enough.

I really hope someone makes that type of game again, but as a P.I. ... not as an actual cop.

Need a voice actor who can do a good Bogey impression.
