Chances for an L.A. Noire sequel?

I thought LA Noire was a terrible game, but god damn do I love being in that city. I REALLY want to see a sequel from another studio. Just give the assets to Obsidian and let them go nuts with the city.

Making a sequel seems like a catch 22 with even the people that did like it, never mind bringing over people who didn't. I loved it but I would have streamlined the open city out of it since there's nothing to really explore or do outside of the main missions. The guy above, for example, would like the opposite haha. So yea, I'd love another one, no idea what they'd do though. I do remember it being absolute gangbusters here in the uk when it came out, everyone running around like it was a new GTA or Red Dead.

Hehe, I'm the opposite. I thought the city sucked because it was filled with a bunch of nothing, but the game itself I thoroughly enjoyed. But I absolutely agree with your last statement: seeing another developer take a crack at a sequel would thrill me like an HD-make of Day of the Tentacle.

I liked it, the storyline became a lot more crazier towards the end and I didn't know what the primary focus was meant to be (insurance scams or serial killer?). They also didn't handle the Cole, singer, wife triangle very well. It cuts to the wife strolling out the garden and you're like 'Wait, did I just miss something?'

Essentially the idea of playing a cop in this sort of 'verse is the direct opposite to GTA's criminals. So I do think it has legs definitely. I've said this before but a game along the same lines (good cops/dirtys cops) set in an late 80's/early 90's crack-ridden NYC with police policies of zero tolerance would be superb. It would allow you to possibly play the cop side, but with more questionable actions like in GTA.

It could deffo be tightened up and polished.

Well its development was a clusterfuck until Rockstar bought publishing rights and salvaged the project, turned things around and managed to release the game to, as last reported some while back, 5+ million copies. I know a lot of money was sunk beforehand due to McNamara's piss poor management, and I don't know how much Rockstar profited from the game, but it sold really well, especially for a new IP. If L.A. Noire 2 or N.Y.C. Noire or whatever were to happen, I don't think Team Bondi personnel would be needed, Rockstar can just get one of their own teams to make it. The only problem is that they won't be able to get hold of the specific mo-cap tech used before, so that special facial animation recognition wouldn't feature again, but that's hardly a deal-breaker. L.A. Noire was largely in the spirit of previous Rockstar games, so I could see them pumping out a sequel, sure.

And I hope so, 'cos I love L.A. Noire!

I really hope Rockstar just doesn't ditch the IP. L.A. Noire was one of my favorite games of 2011 and the first I went to a midnight release for. I also shamefully bought every piece of DLC. The clue hunting and interrogating was fresh to me. It wasn't perfect, but I loved it and I still play it once a year or so.

Agent 2007, Never forget.

Considering it's commercial failure (relative to the budget) and now defunct studio, probably a 0% chance

Really? I was always under assumption it didn't do well considering development costs

As I recall, it sold over 5 million copies, but it was in development hell for a few years and its development budget was rumoured to be up to 100 million. Who knows if it actually made any money for R*.

Between you and me, L.A. Noire was one the last handful of games that made me regret pre-ordering and falling for pre-launch hype. This was Rockstar's Brink.

I know better now. Burn to dust, Team Bondi.

I thought the game was a hot mess, but with some good ideas a slick presentation.

A sequel is probably more likely to happen than seeing Agent, at this rate.

Got the Complete Edition on ps3 for the price of the regular edition due to someone taking it in wrong.

Still need to play it, enjoyed the few hours I played on 360 version.

LA Noire was the single worst game I played in the past generation. This is the game that mostly killed pre-game hype for me. It was the dumbest, most repetitious, most asinine game I have ever played. It took a shit on everything I like about cop stories. It was unfocused, broken, and just incredibly unfun to play. The only good thing about it was the soundtrack.

Worst. Game. Ever.

That said... I'm not opposed to another Noire game by Rockstar. Team Bondi screwed the pooch royally, but Rockstar could come out with something good.

I envision something in the vein of True Detective/Se7en/Zodiac.

I really loved this game. Maybe R* will make a new one but I think this would then be rather different than the original one from Team Bondi. Really sad what happened to Team Bondi after they released such a great game.

It does have a lot in common with Red Dead Revolver I suppose, what with the rescued development. I'd love to see another in future, even if only in setting. That 50s-60s era is massively under-represented. Mafia 2 and LA Noire do it really well - the atmosphere of both of those games makes up for a hell of a lot of their shortcomings.

I could see them shifting into the 70s maybe.

Get rid of the gunplay and driving elements and make it a pure detective game and maybe we'll talk.

Actually make it Noir this time.

Hard boiled detective, drinking whisky sitting at the bar in a scummy establishment with jazzy piano music

that sort of thing

I hope so. There's so much unrealized potential that they could capitalize on in a sequel. Reduce/eliminate the shooting, refine the clue gathering, use dialog trees for interrogations and make your choices have an effect on the cases & overall story.

LA Noire was one of my favorite new franchises from last gen - flaws and all. It's a little disappointing that more developers aren't exploring how to make an engaging mature game with little to no shooting.

i hope so. I'd like to see some varied gameplay, but I loved the setting and dug the game overall. I didn't play it straight through like some did so while it was repetitive, it didn't get to me. I think there is a TON of potential if a game could be made in the same vein, but have a stronger vision and a bit more polish. Soundtrack was great too.

L.A. Noire is probably my favorite game of this generation purely from it's originality. I haven't played any game like it. I hope we see a sequel that tightens up some things. It would be fantastic.

But is the Whore of the Orient officially cancelled? I think they just have a hard time findind the money. So, as far as I know, there still is a small chance that we could get to see Whore of the Orient sometime in the future, and that game sounded like a spiritual sequal to LA Noir. The gameplay, that was leaked last year, looked pretty nice, so Im crossing my fingers.

I prefered the original L.A. Noire premise, which was actually more... noir. When I was in the middle of the campaign, I simply abandoned the side open-world activities. Also, playing until the end was really not fun for me at all. But I'd be way more interested in a sequel, if it focuses on maintaining a noir feeling throughout the whole game and fixes other annoyances.

Hopefully zero. The game was subpar, and I wouldn't want any developer to have to work under or get bullied by Brendan McNamara again.

Does Rockstar own the IP? Don't see why a new team couldn't make a detective game similar to LA Noire. It definitely had flaws but it was one my favorite ges of last gen.

Rockstar owns the IP and seems very satisfied with the outcome of L.A Noire's reception both critically and comercially. The Game had already a lot of rockstar staff helping out team bondi. It's such a fantastic IP, and the rockstar guys are big big fans of the noir genre, so i wouldn't single out a sequel from them (probably from Rockstar Toronto or San Diego for example). I would be down to a Chicago Noire.

They already said that they don't rush out sequels, so even if it takes a while to come out, it will. See max and red dead. The bully IP is another one that dan houser wants to work on again(and they probably already are).

Also i don't understand people NOT wanting a sequel to one of most fresh IPs from last gen. I mean, in the hands of the guys at rockstar, they can make magic. Red Dead Revolver was a great game that they developed partially, but then they made Red Dead Redemption on their own and it was fucking amazing. They don't rush out sequels to specifically see what went right and what went wrong in their games, so a sequel to the game would be something even better.

Although I didn't like the final product, I'd love to see rockstar take a shot at doing the game themselves and set it in NYC in that era. Take the naked city (movie) as inspiration, that's be amazing:O

I absolutely loved the first one.

To be honest though, I would have loved the "Noire" feel applied to other cities.

Chicago Noire, NY Noire, etc.

If we got a new LA Noire over a new Bully there would be no words. Bully needs the RDR treatment. Let LA Noire rest in peace.

I really hope they do another one (with their own team). I'm not a huge fan of open world games, but the focus on LA Noire of getting you from main story beat to main story beat in that big open space was just paced perfectly.

It's my favorite game from Rockstar.

I would love a sequel to this game. I still put it in the ps3 every no and then. Can't remember if it was a gaf thread or an ign article sayin how the next one should follow detective work like the wire.
