Changing payment on an existing Amazon pre-order?

On Amazon UK it puts you at the bottom of the queue and resets your preorder position effectively. I did this after updating my billing address but the same card. Delivery date went from March 3rd to no current estimate. Confirmed with customer support. Going to cancel as I've got one elsewhere from Nintendo direct now.

It never did that for my psvr or pro orders. Changed card details on both and nothing in my orders changed. Still got my vr and pro day one. The vr was unavailable to preorder after their stock allocation was taken up so I doubt it put me at the back of any queue as I wouldn't of got it.

The fact that the preorder queue resets because of this is what caused me a ton of pain with Gravity Rush 2 and I'm hoping it won't happen with Persona 5's Take Your Heart Edition and Nier Automata...

I had to re-preorder them due to a credit card issue late December, and if they don't get enough stock to fill my preorder again - like with Gravity Rush 2 - they'll be getting a call from very angry customer...

Shouldn't be a problem on Amazon US. I was on unemployment when I preordered my PS4, so I knew i wouldn't have the money for a big payment. I bought gift cards and applied them with each check and still got release day shipping. Having the PS4 at launch gave me something to do with my time to help keep me out of the funk being unemployed had me in as well.

Never had a problem, here in the US with Amazon.com, switching payment from a credit card to a gift card. Don't know how other Amazon stores in other countries handle it.

So I've never switched credit cards, but I have switched payment to an Amazon.com gift card, and it's always kept my place. Even for highly sought after pre-order items.

So it may only be a thing where they keep your order queue when changing payment to gift cards. I don't know how it works. I just know in the past I've personally never had a problem changing to a giftcard.

If I change the shipping method, will that change my order as well? I did change the shipping method and it still says it will arrive March 3 but underneath it says "not yet shipped" instead of "pre-ordered".

I just went ahead applied gift card balance AND changed the shipping address on my Zelda BotW Master Edition pre-order. No issues. Went smoothly. In fact the delivery date estimate changed to one day earlier.

If you change it soon you will probably be fine. Assuming they get the full allotment then there will inevitably be people that cancel or have payment issues. I would just do it as soon as possible.

Interesting, maybe something has changed since then. I did speak to customer service and they confirmed my fears and "understood my frustration" but couldn't do anything about it. It may end up still arriving on launch but I'm not going to risk it with it having no delivery estimate.

Well I changed cards for my Switch pre order and only having 48p in the bank the card failed the credit check thingy and cancelled my switch per order.

Don't listen to these people - we've had these threads multiple times: on limited items changing you payment method DEFINITELY resets your place in line. This will not be a problem if there is enough stock. If there is a shortage, you'll be at the end, though.

The way to overcome this is to apply gift cards to your account, then go into the order and it will allow you to apply it without changing your place in the queue.

Again, if stock is appropriate, you'll see no issue, the problem only arises when it's a limited item.

Haha, well geez thanks for the "screw you" and calling me and others liars. Or maybe, just maybe something else is going on like region issues. I would say that FE Fates LE, the Switch and PSVR bundle at launch qualified as limited items out of stock items.

Buy a gift card and apply it to the order or reload your gift balance and apply it to the order. This is the only way to not possibly lose your order. Changing details on orders almost always leads to a cancellation on extremely limited items.

Search the threads - it's come up multiple times and we've had multiple confirmations from Amazon. I've lost an order this way, and many other people have. It has to do with their order system Again, if the stock was there, and you changed your card you would never know -- you only know when they run out.

If they get 100 items, and take 100 pre-orders, it doesn't matter -- you'll be fine, even if you're #100. But what happens sometimes is that they take 100 pre-orders and only get 95 copies ... that's when the queue issue kicks in.

No, that's wrong. You've detailed the exact steps I took, which ended up in me losing my Switch order.

Amazon UK.

Here are just a few of the past threads on this exact topic: Changing your address or payment method resets your place. It's a fact. Change them at your own peril:

I used it on my PS4 and for the Majora's Mask 3DS collectors edition, which were both sold out at the time.

Again, if they had enough allocation for ALL the pre-orders, changing something wouldn't affect your pre-order, it's only when the pre-order allocation is constrained, which happens more than you would think.

Perhaps it's a UK thing? Either way, on Amazon UK I added a gift card to my account and then applied it to my Switch order, lost my place.

If people want to risk it, I'd advise against but that's all I can do.

Lost mine so hopefully can prevent anyone else from losing theirs.

I've applied gift cards to pre-orders many times on Amazon US and have never lost my spot.

Simply applying a gift card doesn't change anything though. If you change your credit card or shipping address and then apply a gift card then your order might be canceled.

I HAVE DONE THIS MULTIPLE TIMES on preorder at amazon, and never had a problem. as long as the order is not processing, you should be ok.

already mentioned but if you do this on preorders and amazon doesn't get enough to fill every order for whatever reason it will bump you down the priority list.

I had preordered FFXV on Amazon and a few days before it was supposed to shipped, I remembered my credit card info had changed and hadn't updated my address.

I just called them up and they changed it.

I didn't lose my preorder or anything.

Again

Fire Emblem Fates LE

PSVR bundle

Switch.

I have switched my payment on all three of those items personally and did not lose my preorder or ship dates among other items. All three of those items were sold out. What other items are you talking about that were more sold out than them (some of which are actually exact items in your links)? I'm not denying people have lost preorders or are calling them liars like you just blatantly and offensively did to me and others with complete disregard or act like i'm stupid and don't know what sold out means. I'm saying their just may be some other factor going on. Customer service agents are very well known for just coming up with the best reason even if not proven or true to get people off the phone. As I also said in the Switch thread I was noticing the people saying they lost their preorders were most notably from EU which means it could also be a region thing. So instead of saying its DEFINITELY this reason and I and others are liars or idiots maybe it would be more helpful to start looking for more commonalities in these incidents than spreading FUD.

It's definitely the case with Amazon uk.

My default card is expiring at the end of next month, so I updated the card my order (wasn't aware it could be an issue, I changed payment on my PS4 without a problem) and my expected date went from the 3rd to the 9th.

CS basically said they didn't have confirmation of their allocation and updating my payment had dropped me down the queue, and since they didn't have stock confirmation they couldn't promise I'd get one at launch.

If I'd have left the order I'm sure there'd be enough cancellations/other unaware updates before then, Argos still had stock so I just swapped to them.

The ridiculous handling of the queue wouldn't bother me half as much if there was anything informing you about it before hand. It'd be fairly trivial for them to implement.

Just update your card on the account with the new expiration date. It'll just update everything without affecting your order. This assumes it's the same card with a new expatiation date.

Sorry for bumping an older thread, but can anyone else confirm that this works?

My bank sent me a new card, and while my old one didn't expire until 2018, I had a stupid lapse in judgement and activated my new card.

So now I'm not sure what to do. Otherwise, I have to hope that my old debit card gets charged fine.

(I asked an Amazon CS rep today, and they were useless. Basically told me not to change anything and to only update my payment when it "comes back in stock before March 3rd" which is beyond fucking absurd for a Switch preorder)

US here, this screwed up my FFXV collectors edition order. Applied a gift card, then Sent me to the back of the line and had to pay extra for day one shipping to get it on time. Not gonna risk it with the switch.

God bless all of you, I had a gift card I got for my birthday and was going to apply it to my Switch pre order.

I held off assuming by doing so it could create an issue. reading this confirmed my suspicions, thanks everyone.

Buy a gift card or reload your gift balance of the exact amount of the item and apply it to the open order.

Seemed to work okay for me. I changed the expiration date on mine and it still shows the March 3rd delivery date.
