Yeah who the fuck shops at the most expensive place on earth?

They aren't always the most expensive place. Sometimes they're the same price as other sites.

I only buy from GAME when I can't find a game (eg the Batman CE) cheaper elsewhere. And with that voucher code I got earlier it's actually cheaper AND I get my points.

For all you guys slagging off Game, what's a better alternative? I just landed here in the UK fairly recently so the stores are all new to me. Game seems awfully similar to GameStop/EB in the States.

I think the supermarkets (Morrisons, Asda etc) are your best bet for cheap games in the UK (other than online stores of course).

Find an independent where you live, or go online. There aren't really any main alternatives on the high-street apart from supermarkets. Game and Gamestation are the same company. Both are equally bad.

On the high street?

Gamestation are owned by the same company as GAME, but they tend to be a bit cheaper, offer slightly better trade-in prices (IIRC) and I think they still have the seven-day return policy.

HMV, I've noticed sometimes beat out the other two. For example, I got WSR for £40 from there compared to £42.99 from GS, and Rock Band 2 for £40 compared to £45 or £50 (:lol).

Supermarkets have a far smaller selection, but often undercut the others when it comes to new releases.

So the best advice I can offer is shop around and keep your eyes open for sales...

I'd steer clear of the high street shops completely to be honest for new games. Keep an eye on this thread, or just add games you're interested in on www.gamestracker.com. Game, Gamestation etc. seem to charge pretty much RRP for everything. :/

If you're shopping in real time then supermarkets and music stores will generally undercut GAME. Online is the obvious choice, there's a bunch of retailers like Play.

GAME used to be part-owned by EB (there used to be a lot more EBs here than GAMEs) but essentially control the entire games retail business in the UK. They own GameStation (another retail outlet with a slightly more hardcore corporate identity) and Gameplay (a long-standing online retailer) and were at one point under investigation

The only real alternative with the collapse of Virgin Megastores/Zavvi and Woolie's distribution arm these days is HMV, a general home entertainment retailer, plus the occasional indie store that's usually horrifically overpriced. You can occasionally pick up random savings by shopping in big supermarkets like Tesco or Asda (Asda's the only place I ever found Chrono Trigger DS, for instance) but you're really playing pot luck there.

GAME occasionally does bargain pricing for flops (I picked up Last Remnant for £20 a few weeks after release, for instance), but they're absolutely rubbish for new games as is the high street in general, particularly anything slightly niche. Stick to Net retailers like the ones listed in this thread in general if you want to save money.

Cool, thanks people. I had definitely noticed that department stores like John Lewis are every bit as expensive as department stores in the US and steered clear.

Game had the best console bundle when I bought a 360 here after arriving, but much like you guys note Amazon has consistently cheaper prices on new releases. And yeah, I'm subscribed to this thread now.

To anyone in Ireland, Gamestop are selling off a bunch of PC games for 1.98. Most of the games aren't that brilliant (Kane and Lynch, Tomb Raider Legends) but they're worth the 2 euro. My friend did get Fallout 3 though, so you might get lucky.

GAME's website is much better than their actual stores.
I've always received pre-orders 1 day or 2 days before release, and you can usually find discount coupons floating around. And a lot of the time the prices are cheaper online than instore.

I personally buy most of my games from HMV.com (Especially DS & PSP games) as I get 10% student discount, and their reward points (forget what they're called)

My best advice to you, Unclesmoothie would be to check this thread regularly and to shop around!

EDIT: I never use quidco, I prefer to go through Nectar e-stores... :)

Blockbuster is a pretty good alternative. Their prices on new releases seem to echo supermarkets (and online) quite well.

CeX (they are basically a pawn shop for phones, DVDs and games) does have the occasional used bargain but ordering goods online off them is hit and miss (usually the latter, orders taking forever then getting canceled) so their website is best used to check stock if you live near a store.

Otherwise, just shop around and accept the fact that online generally has better prices for new titles and since most online places ship before release so a little planning means you can get the game at the same time as you would on the high street.

One thing that always confused me aboit GAME is they own and run the Gamestaiton and Gameplay websites. 95% of the time stock levels and prices are the same between GAME and Gamestation but then like £1 cheaper on Gameplay.

I didn't think Gameplay were a part of the same group? GAME and GameStation are.

Hmm, quick look at registered addresses says you're right. :/

Anyone who knows a British site or another European site that sells cheap ass PS3-games for £4.99 or €4.99? I dont care how bad the game is or if it is pre-owned.

Just that it isnt is Motorstorm, Resistance Fall of Man, 2k8 and older,
Beowulf, Dark Sector, Gundam, UEFA Euro 08, Unreal
Tournament 3, Turning Point, PES 2008, Haze, Skate or Lair.

The only one I know is game.co.uk that sells some pre-owned PS3-games for £4.99, isnt there any more sites?

It's been like that for more than a year :p

I tought he was talking about CEX.co.uk :P

Well, guess I have to order from gamestation.co.uk then :)

I know shopto are generally frowned upon here, but I just noticed that they accept paypal, so security concious bargain hunters can shop in confidence once more.

What the f*** is up with inFamous?!
Why is it 38 pounds everywhere (Sites that ships WW - blahdvd, game, zaavi and some more)???

I want this game so badly but I don't know if I want to pay that much for it. And I just know that a few days after I'll buy it, the price will drop to around 30 pounds :(

Why are you doing this to me?!

Calm down dear....

SimplyGames: inFAMOUS - £24.79

edit - plus £3.95 for "overseas"

They ship software to - Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece (including Islands), Hungary, Italy, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Slovakia, Spain (including Islands), Sweden, Switzerland.

I love both of you.
Unfortunatly, SimplyGames won't ship to Israel so altough the price is great, I won't be able to enjoy.

I never heard about Mymemory. Anyone tried shopping from there? I'm on the verge of hitting the "buy" button.

Thanks for the heads up on that Gamestop deal. Already got a bunch of old games lying around, so this is pretty perfect except for the part where the closest Gamestop is 40 kilometers away.

Anyone seen cheapish' deals on Street Fighter IV for PS3 lately?

I'm really LTTP, but after Play.com sold their stock, like 2 days before I was going to order, I haven't been able to found another place with the same price.

Play.com's price was around 25 pounds, if I remember right.
