That's kind of where I'm sitting on this too. It's cool the book is as it is, but the unfortunate thing is the book isn't reflecting the actual situation in China at all. They still have a looooong way to go.

Is easier to mold the minds of children to be more accepting and understanding of sexuality in its myriad forms than it is to change the minds of adults who have already formed very strong opinions on the matter.

With the right awareness campaign things can change dramatically in less than a generation.

This really depends on which part of China you go to. Some parts are really down to earth and progressive... and I've heard great things about Chengdu as being far more relaxed than other urban centers.

The pamphlet seems fine...but for 7 year olds? Sexual fantasies? HIV? That's kinda fucked up imo.

I had my first sex-ed course when I was 8 or 9 years old in Canada, so it's not far off the mark.

The thing is, its like a late night show, but she actually talks about the problems gay and trans people face in China.
No shit?

I suppose I can't be too surprised. This is the inevitable end result of dense urban centers where tons of folks are intermingling on a regular basis. I fully believe that cities are just predisposed towards tolerance and multiculturalism by the very nature of their existence. The fact that even China sees this sort of thing happening in the wake of its censorship-heavy communist regime is quite promising, indeed.

The past US election cycle has firmly convinced me that the real issue lies in the rural/outer suburb vs urban split. Urban values just tend not to coincide with rural values, and that's where things really clash. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the split is very similar over in China.

This is a step in the right direction.
Noticed that a lot of people didn't know about STD's when I lived in China.

Heck even had one of my ex-girlfriends exclaim: "I'm never going to the US!!" when we were watching "The Hangover" and she asked me to explain what "herpes" was.

Explaining reproductivity to youngsters ain't that crazy. Teachers don't just put on a video of pornhub at random.

It's the very basics of biology.

The age thing is fine those cartoons are hilarious.
