Cities Skylines sells 500,000 copies

Congrats on the News! This game is one of the best sim builders I have played since the original SimCity. These guys deserve all the praise right now. Perfect game made the way it should have been from the start!

Well deserved. The game is really good. There are improvements to be made sure but for what they did and at the price they sold it (including the special prices on launch day and for preorder) one can't go wrong on the city builder front with the game.

I'm ecstatic to see it doing so well, and very glad someone stepped up to the plate for a modern take on the genre after SimCity shat the bed.

Stoked to see Colossal Order getting so much attention and success - I've already put in close to 30 hours on my first city and that's not to mention all the hours I poured into CiM2.

You convinced me guys...I'm IN!

And I haven't been able to buy it yet. I need this game. Really glad it's doing well, I can't wait to see future content and mods to make it even better.

I saw the potential for success a mile away. SimCity didn't appeal to the market at all and there was still a pent up interest in a high quality city simulator game.

I still think there may be opportunities in the market for more competition in this space.

Correct. But if Paradox ever implemented a Steam workshop store (like TF2) then it would circumvent Valve's cut.

Well, the items you see listed on the marketplace were selected by Valve to drop in-game; people can't just sell whatever they like. It could only be argued that he's cutting Valve out of the picture if Paradox were to select his buildings as marketable rewards and he were offering the files himself.

I've bought it but haven't even installed yet.
The main reason is to support a developer that seems know how to treat their customers.

I'm not buying this game, I hated Cities XL.
Did you also make this post in the paradox forums?

Finally i have been waiting for someone to take the bashing from all the fake pseudo-city building fans which Maxis pissed off with SC2013 but never touched SC 3000 and 4.
Let me tell you something, all you so called C:SL defenders are not real city builders, you are either millenias who have less expectations from life and do not care about quality of a game, or you are so shallow that do not care about a game and just play it for the casual aspect of it.
You are the type of people who sponsor quill18 and other youtubers and get nerdgasms when he makes a city and you copy his playstyle and come here or post "funny" screenshots on reddit and praise CO on how great this game is.
This game is just a casual city builder, it has so many bugs and awkward quirks that makes me cringe and wished that the team from Maxis would storm into CO's offices and say: WTF IS THIS SHIT?
This is a bigger joke than Sim City 2013, and i know why the reviewers gave it such a big score, it was to get revenge on EA and Maxis for fudging up Sim City. This is not a real city builder, it is a revenge game. That is it.
The fact that people teleport to work, that the traffic takes one lane out of 6 lane road to make a turn, the fact that boats go on land because they cannot change their route dynamically, neither can the cars change lanes, the fact that a huge apartment building has 12 people living in it, and a 600K population city is the size of New York, no tunnels at launch, no day or night cycle, no disasters, makes me think that this game was aimed at children, console gamers and frustrated city building fans with no more expectations of a good game in this genre, because EA sucked all the expectations from the real Sim City fans, and now Paradox and CO are just taking advantage from this situation and is rolling in cash, because the fans sayd, "meh... better than that POS Sim City 2013 at least"....
I hope for the sake of the city builders, the real ones, who spent hours in SC4 and modding that Paradox will not pull a Maxis and leave this game in this unfinished state.

3 copies of the game of been in constant rotation at my house, my wife and I are playing it like crazy. Our roommate doesn't play quite as much as we do, as he is splitting his time between WoW and BF4, but still puts in some decent time.

Now if I could just figure out how to get the 40% crimerate for 2 years ... even with no police. Think I need to try again with a smaller city, I waited for 10k population before trying it with my Crimetopia named city.

Valve's gonna be pissed he's circumventing their workshop cut.

Correct. But if Paradox ever implemented a Steam workshop store (like TF2) then it would circumvent Valve's cut.

Did you actually read his Patreon?

He isn't circumventing anything. He is providing extra content on how it is created via "secret video links" and other renders, for other modders to us to make their mods or as background etc. It's similar to a lot of Patreons, where the main content remains free for everyone and Patreons get bonus access to other content etc.

The Steam Workshop remains the same as ever - free. If Paradox want to have some content monetised, that is up to them, but plenty of free content will remain as with any game that has Workshop functionality

What about a MBP 15? Will it work on that? I really need some games on that :-(

Depends on how old it is, and whether it has a dedicated graphics card or not. Newish MBPs with dedicated graphics cards can run it ok, older ones with Intel graphics you're pretty much SOL (unless you want to play a game that looks like it came out of the late 90's).

I started playing at around 11pm last night, and at one point looked at the clock on my second monitor and literally yelled 'holy shit it's 4am'.

Great game, well deserved. I just wish I could start fresh, but my first city means too much to me now, despite being horribly laid out and fundamentally flawed I can't let it go.

Wow I'm impressed that this game did more than 500k in a week! I never thought it would do more than 150k so Paradox must be very happy that it managed to do so much!

Congratulations to CO and Paradox well deserved this game is just awesome also the marketing through youtube and streamers helps a lot.

Fucking awesome. I'm sure some people at the Paradox office are high-fiving each other right now.

Congrats to paradox and collosal order. If EA ever decides to continue the Simcity series, I hope they use Skylines as an example of what to do right.
