Cloverfield video game connection? ( spoilers abound)

Ok, I just saw cloverfield and I couldnt help but notice a few things:
1. The movie is a FPS with out the shooting. The movement is from level to level and the entire movie is just one perspective where you rarely see the person behind the camera. There a a clear separation between levels ( scenes) and there are enemy encounters at the end of each level . In addition the script for this movie could easily have been a FPS like half life where you only know as much as gordon freeman and nothing more.

2. The monster is Sin from FFX with the head of one of the monsters from resistance. Granted the resistance monster is some kind of arachnid thing, when you look at both Cloverfield and resistance monster side by side they look VERY similar.

3. The monster had Sin Spawn which behaved in a similar way.

JJ Abrams said he got the idea for the movie while in Japan and saw the merchandise there. I wonder what other influences there are other than the obvious Godzilla.

The concept of a first person narrative did exist before videogames. If it's borrowing any pop culture aesthetic, it's the YouTube homemade feel - along with heavy doses of 9/11 amateur video captures.

The cameraman is named Hud. HUD. A video game staple if ever there was one.

Earth Defense Force 2: Operation Cloverfield can't come soon enough (if I wish hard enough it will happen)!

EDIT: beaten? Why you...

There is a giant turtle like godzilla too.

a "survival-adventure" first-person game in even a part of a massive city like New York would be really cool, actually.

then again, in the mainstream market if it's first-person and doesn't have LOL SHOOT EVERYTHING it would probably be bound for failure. :(

Not a FPS, but Alone in the dark says hi.

Also, to the OP, the first description my brother gave me of the monster was "Something straight out of Resistance."

The monster is actually a creature from Avatar (animated).

I had a Cloverfield dream the other night...Except the monster was Martha Stewart...Dressed as Power Girl.

The dream was actually good (and scary!) which is more than I can say for the source material.

wow, thats really close to the real monster. Even the limb arrangement is the same.

When my friend sent me the images I was pretty shocked too. I can't find some pics of the actual monster to post for comparison but the resemblance is uncanny.

I bet her pubic lice were fucking terrifying.

I think Disaster: Day of Crisis is like that, but without the first person perspective (I think...really, we still don't know much of anything about it).

J.J. Abrams is a fan of Half life, but, the way cloverfield was filmed has been done before. It doesn't necessarily borrow from that.

NO, NO, NO. I will personally letterbomb anyone who tries to ruin Cloverfield by making a game out of it.
I don't think you can ruin Cloverfield more than it has ruined itself.

The movie was very mediocre.

You should probably just link to it. You can't really scroll past that without being spoiled.

So does EDF have anything the size of the cloverfield monster in the game?

EDF has nothing THAT big, though it does
change size lots
so there's no way to tell if there is something EDF style.

Furthermore, does anyone have some full size picks of Sin? IIRC, Sin was a kind of whale type creature with no arms. I know initially they released mutated whale pics for Cloverfield, but they were proven to be fan made and not official.

Vallak is pretty close. Can't find a good shot of him now though. Basically Godzilla like. Also the end game super giant spider and ants, and well the robo walker and Mother Ship. Mother Ship is HUGE!

Gaffers have seen The Host, right ? I'd love something in the order / atmosphere of that panic in the park scene in a game.

The concept of Sin + Sinspawn is good connection, but the creature itself doesn't remind me at all of the actual Sin monster from FFX. It was just like a giant sea creature.
