Dude, you can spell the whole word out. It's ok, no one will suspect a thing. *smh*
Yes, I know that. But how does he download that patch if his current OS is "expired" and doesn't work? He's banned from Live, and there's no way for him to connect back to the internet when he's unbanned because his OS is broken.
Ah I didn't know that, but waking up to this and just having to read the OP to know what's going on, is amazing. He needed some gentle nudging, but he eventually came through. Gribble is dependable.
Spelling it correctly would cause the thread to explode in a different way.

Yes, and not only that, but as soon as you sign in the DRM spreads to every device connected to your home network. That's the bad news. The good news is it prevents you from having to play the COD single player campaign.
I usually put a fair bit of trust behind CBOAT but this one is a stretch at best I'll agree, but conversely his last post before today said he'd not be back till after launch... So that raises my suspicion meter to a rather high level that something is afoot here beyond that which we are being told.Methinks this guy loves his fame (infamy) a little too much.
Im with you. But his post in this thread added no real info except to stir up the pot.Get over it, that's how he communicates.
smh.
Methinks this guy loves his fame (infamy) a little too much.
Agreed. But what info did "imagn" bring us?Cboat posts are fun and deciphering them is part of the fun.
He has real info which has been proven throughout his posting career.
From the start it's been clear that his motive is to get real information into the minds of gamers, whether or not he enjoys the attention is irrelevant (who wouldn't).
Rhindle suggests that actually the OS is frequently receiving daily updates in the lead up to launch, and that if the system does not get those updates, it will cease to function. Therefore, since this guy cannot currently log in to get those updates, he cannot play.
Im with you. But his post in this thread added no real info except to stir up the pot.
Microsoft will allow his console, which is banned from accessing their online network currently, to access that online network which will fix everything. He's just banned until the Xbox One launch is closer.
Microsoft needs to get in front of this ASAP. We need to know their final stance on DRM. Hopefully dude receives a new console free of charge.
FYI it's 11pm on a Sunday, so people aren't exactly quick to respond to work email. I wanted to check in before I shut-down for the evening. This is what I believe is going on:
We still have two more weeks before launch - the console is in a pre-release state. We are doing regular updates - I personally took one a few minutes before he posted. His build is now old. This is why we were saying we didn't want people on early - it's not done yet.
This behavior is only because we are in pre-release. When we launch, console will work exactly as you expect today on 360.
For sure this has nothing to do with requiring a connection. There is no "DRM removal" in the Day One update because none of the consoles were ever built with that stuff in it.
This also has nothing to do with COD. The Day One update just brings the SW up to date with the latest versions vs. what's on the box. But there is no 24 check in, that's for sure.
Yeah! That's really good, really good! Let him play COD offline at least, god damn.
I like how everyone jumped on the Xbox One hate again before clarification. And Sony putting "offline enabled" on their box is retarded. Glad I'm skipping this gen.
You're wrong. You guys... the 24-hr check is still in the Xbox ONE. It has to be. Nothing else is adding up.
I read the entire thread up to this point. Guy plays COD Ghosts online, gets banned from Live temporarily, can still play Ghosts in SP campaign. Then, 24 hrs later, his console is essentially bricked.
We then have a poster who posted a picture of the back of the PS4 box for Ghosts, and it specifically says "Offline Play Enabled". So far, it's the only PS4 game to have that specific labeling. Amirox then posts a picture of the ONE's box for Ghosts, and it doesn't even have labels regarding resolution, let alone any labels regarding offline SP.
Skip a few pages, then Albert Penello posts this:
Regarding the bolded: it makes sense, yet it doesn't. Microsoft is sending out periodic updates to the OS because it's apparently still very barebones at this point. Yet, updates are usually a one-time thing, and when you don't update, you device usually doesn't turn into a brick. Instead, it seems these builds have time limits... in this case, a 24 hr time limit, apparently.
Penello then says that the day one update doesn't remove the DRM, because none came installed within the ONE. But everything we've heard prior to that suggests otherwise. Even the Kotaku update that someone posted suggests that the update is needed for offline gaming, which was a major restriction of the DRM originally.
Nothing else adds up. Why else put such a short expiration date on an OS build? Why specifically label the PS4 version of Ghosts as being "offline enabled"? Why is that person's console bricked after his build "expired"? Why is the OS so barebones that MS needs to update it so frequently?
Idk... this might be wrong, but that's the conclusion my mind came to. The answers Penello provided do not add up at all.
Also, CBoaT would not post here for no damn reason. Something's up, and this seems to be it...

Follow the moneyOr you know...weekly builds and all that. His console ceased functionality on a Sunday afternoon. New build is up for the crew to have a go at on Monday morning.
It's probably the one-armed man though.

● Guy was playing Call of Duty: Ghosts on his early Xbox one. His access to XBL gets temporarily banned because they are still working on things for launch. He can still play offline.
● A day later, he now says he can no longer play the game offline. Everyone wonders why.
● PS4 version has "Offline Enabled" on the back, whereas Xbox One case did not, which confused things further. Ultimately however this seems to amount to nothing, since other games are also missing critical info on the back (example: Knack does not indicate it has remote play).
● Someone says what if the DRM was removed at the OS level, yet can still be done on a software-by-software basis? crazy buttocks implies agreement. People react, but since technically what buttocks was implying is not really any different from what PS4 does, it didn't tell us much.
● Penello comes back and says he's still looking for info, but it's definitely not DRM (the patch does not remove DRM, but puts a finalized OS in place) and it's definitely not related to Call of Duty, since the patch just updates the game itself.
● Rhindle suggests that actually the OS is frequently receiving daily updates in the lead up to launch, and that if the system does not get those updates, it will cease to function. Therefore, since this guy cannot currently log in to get those updates, he cannot play.
● Penello agrees with this guess of Rhindle's and all-but confirms it is the case.
● bishoptl comes, but he missed out on cake.
You're wrong.
It's been explained very clearly in the past two pages. There's nothing suspicious- its just a case of accidental shipment which has us peeking behind the curtain.Explain it to me then. All this shit is way too suspicious for nothing to be wrong at all...
You're wrong.
That just doesn't mesh with his post history and Alberts narrative about OS issues and the patch not effecting the DRM because it was never there doesn't match the narrative that is corporate handlers have laid out either. That, or he just wants to push buttons because everyone's been so on edge lately. Either way, the boat has said a thing!
Explain it to me then. All this shit is way too suspicious for nothing to be wrong at all...

So you've failed to get a gaming console running on time then. That is sad.FYI it's 11pm on a Sunday, so people aren't exactly quick to respond to work email. I wanted to check in before I shut-down for the evening. This is what I believe is going on:

They had this plan in June- basically to ship without a final OS. Thats the big issue here, IMHO- but this was known already. So you've failed to get a gaming console running on time then. That is sad.

It doesn't really answer all the questions people have. I notice you are answering quite a few questions in this thread. Do you have an xb1 in your possession? How are you qualified to answer all these questions with certainty?
Not qualified at all, won't have one til titanfall. But my answers- right or wrong- make more sense (and are backed by actual comments by penello) than the conspiracy stuff that's being thrown around. It doesn't really answer all the questions people have. Yeah! That's really good, really good! Why MS let him to play COD offline at least, god damn.
Truly beta tested in the future.
Parents buying this will be pissed to find out you will need internet to play offline. People without internet are in for a surprise.
A shit storm is coming in the next couple of weeks.
