Codemasters VP: PSP is a "useless waste of space"

I actually just looked up their list of games on Wikipedia and can comfortably say I haven't liked a single one of their games. :lol But! I won't say they "suck" in fear of being labeled as a fanboy who has his head stuck up his ass.
<3 PSP

Is it bad that I actually think the system is much better now than ever before? Like, when it first came out I thought the games were complete shit. Soon it'll be getting Valkyria Chronicles, Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and the, very good, Phantasy Star Portable 2. I also recently got hooked onto the amazing Eye of Judgment.

It's a weird inverse situation. Software volume is going down but I would agree that the quality is going up. In the last 6 months we actually got a lot of excellent titles - MotorStorm, Soul Calibur (ask and ye shall recieve), LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia: Final Fantasy and Patchwork Heroes. I honestly think PSP Go did have something to do with a few of those games - astronomical sales bomba aside, I do credit it for encouraging big developers to give the system a second chance. In fact, I suspect Gran Turismo was rushed out just in time for the Go launch. Kojima also said Peace Walker was on PSP because it was "so hot right now" (or something like that, I don't remember). Perhaps this is why Resident Evil PSP hasn't shown it's face - after the bomba, maybe Capcom are reconsidering.

Oh absolutely.

Let's just hope Sony understands the following are mandatory features (if they want to go against the iPhone):

- DualStick
- TouchScreen
- Mobile phone/GPS functionalities
- Trophiez
- Built in camera
- Motion sensor

If well priced, I don't see how a PSP2 with these characteristic would "fail" as much as the current model.

Well priced ? if the PSP2 is a upgrade to the PSPGo ... hmmm a true premium product has its price... :lol

PSP Successor should also have physical media releases, so there wouldn't be any need to appease retailers with a mark-up like the Go has.

How appropriate that a "useless waste of space" is how I would describe most Codemasters games.

What Codemasters game has ever been a universal success?

Could they not just make the PSP2 exclusive to GAME/Gamespot and demand that the PSP is sold at a set price.

Liverpool FC: Club Football

That's true but if sony goes touchscreen with a PSP2 it would be a OLED screen i guess and this stuff is still expEnsive (plus stronger hardware etc.).

You forgot g network, app, music, book store, more PSN features (in game xmb, background downloads, friend lists, PS Home, etc). Add that to what was added to the PSP GO (bluetooth, flash memory) and that's the bare minimum for the PSP 2, I also want a portable projector like some phones have nowadays, could be an add on to keep the costs of the device down though.

Not trolling, just think this is interesting considering this was just posted today:

Main reasons for PSP GO failure IMO are, in order of relevance:

- Price is too expensive for what is being offered, Sony must be banking per unit sold because I don't see it costing them more than U$110 to make the thing.
- Lots of new and popular games not appearing on PSN store like PES2010, BBS, GodEater, etc
- PSN game price = retail price is a big FAIL

Didn't they make those Micro Machines games, like, 15 years ago? They were kinda successful, weren't they?

It was as successful as LFC has been the last 20 years or so, amirite?

Reading his "waste of space" comment, in context, it doesn't sound like he's calling the PSP "worthless". In his following sentence, he says that just getting anything on it is ridiculous. It sounds more like a comment on development difficulties than a general assessment of the PSP. Does anyone else, who actually read the original Edge article, get the same vibe?

That is the real slap in the face for all the ppl who took the step and bought the Go in my eyes. A friend of my didn't care about the price of the go and bought it the first day but he is totally mad at this.

On the subject of anti-piracy measures - I find two things really strange. 1. Square-Enix seem to have invented a way of making Birth By Sleep uncrackable. You simply cannot play that game without official firmware. If Sony were really serious about piracy, they would enforce this across all UMD releases. 2. The other thing is related to UMD capacity. There is 1.8gb of space on one disc, yet developers rarely use all of it. Surely if they filled every UMD to the brim with padding, people would be less inclined to download the games due to big file sizes? And I know that programs like UMDGen can rip out some padded data, but why not research a way of making it un-rippable?

How many games in general are universal successes?

Dirt, Dirt 2, and Grid have all gotten very good reviews and are generally well liked.

I mostly listed hardware upgrades. I assume software and services will evolve anyway.

Hardware is something you are stuck with. So they better get the hardware down right before even thinking about the rest.

I've owned a PSP for about a year now. I've never been a big fan of handheld gaming, but some of the prospects of the PSP caught my eye. An MP3/Video player + gaming system was a no-brainer in my eyes.

I've played some good games on it, like Chains of Olympus, Little Big Planet, and Dracula X Chronicles, but I've yet to play a game that truly engrosses a handheld experience. And what I mean by that is every game I've played seems to have long levels and a great multimedia experience (cut scenese, etc.), but nothing that screams "pick me up, play me for 5 minutes before the bus comes, and put me away." The PSP, to me, seems more like a home console on a tiny screen.

It could be I've not played the right games, or even the best games on the system. I'll happily take advice from other PSP players as to what games to play. I'll be making the trip to PAX East next week and definitely need something good to pass the time away on the airplane.

I have no love for Codemasters, but you can't disagree that the PSP is the most disappointing console this gen.

I'd say that in terms of games I actually want to play the PSP is second only to the DS this gen.

Pretty much all the video gaming I do is on the PSP.

I just don't really have the time or patience to sit in front of a TV playing games for hours anymore. I've got stacks of PS2 and 360 games that I haven't even loaded once. (So why do I keep buying them? I don't know, blame CAG for good deals that I can't resist).

I also have DS, which has a solid library, but the PSP's appeals to me more, and I like the much bigger screen (could change if I ever get a DSi XL)

PSP has just as much great games as DS games, fuck this guy. He reps a company that makes no good games.

Edit: Nowadays, EXCEPT for Overlord which is awesome.

auctually what i want is my psp to automatically hook up to my ps3, which should be able to control my tv, and then be displayed on my vaio laptop, controlled by my ericsson phone. it IS possible to do something like this if you have a sony household, but it would take fucking hours to configure everything.
What exactly would you be using the PSP for in that chain? You have those two hooked up, the PS3 controlling the TV, which is then displayed on your PC, which is controlled by your cell phone? What?

You obviously either a) don't own a PSP, b) have shit taste in games, or c) both.
I know so many people who hate the PSP for no valid reason at all.

If they don't want to buy it because they feel it's expensive or they just don't want too many consoles, I can respect that.

But some just hate it just because.

The difference being that people buy such DS games whereas PSP users pirate them.

I certainly own a PSP, and the last good game I played was Little Big Planet.

I'd maybe have been interested in Lunar : Silver Star Harmony if my PSP hadn't been confined to the drawer.

Swittcher said:
Well, it's got less great games than all the other consoles, especially in the last 1-2 years.

And in terms of sales...well.

I have a 3000, but haven't touched it in months. I was thinking of buying AC: Bloodlines, but then....yeah, no.

So there are no games you enjoy. I bought alot of titles in the last few months.

Opus Angelorum said:

What a bad time to do that; Lunar, MLB 10, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, BlazBlue Portable, Socom Fireteam Bravo 3, Eye Of Judgment: Legends, Ecoshift, Shadow of Destiny, etc.

Than take it out, buy the game, and play it.

That's the worst excuse, for not wanting to play the PSP anymore, I've ever heard!

I haven't played my Wii for awhile but I'm not going to say, "I want Metroid Other M, but my Wii is in my closet and I don't want to take it out, so I don't care about it anymore!"

The PSP is a lot of things but calling it a waste of space is stupid considering the games and competition that has occurred in the handheld market in the past 5-6 years. It's certainly not a market leader but it's been the most successful competitor against the behemoth Nintendo handheld to date.

As for Codemasters, I respect them for Overlord but that comment was stupid nonetheless.

the psp is great.

its just too powerful for its own good so it gets console games shoe-horned into it that dont really work, whereas the DS forces them to use a bit more imagination

the problem with the Go is mainly just that Sony were incredibly stupid and havent come close to providing the amount of DD games they said they would, both back catalogue and future/new releases.

and dual analogue sticks on a portable?! how?! the psp nub thing is an abomination.

if anything it should just have a dpad, two face buttons and maybe shoulder buttons.

I agree, as one who owns and enjoys the system itself, the system seems to have no sales in software and thus, lacking software.. I just bought a ds and I own 3x the games for it already :/
