Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

So what's the consensus with Kathleen Kennedy? There are rumblings by some in the fanbase that she needs to be ousted. I really had no problem with Rogue One. And I enjoyed Force Awakens, even if it was a soft remake of Episode IV.

I know it's seemingly becoming hip to pine for the prequels, but I don't want to go back to the wooden acting and stilted dialogue. Is that what people want to go back to?

Those people are dumb. Episode 7 made $2 Billion, Rogue One made over $1 Billion. What basis do some nerds have for saying she should be ousted? If anything, she seems to be incredibly efficient at her job. She's not letting anyone steer the ship off course, even for a moment. I wish more studios had leadership like that.

And she has the balls to make the hard decisions when needed.

This, if the end results deliver (and they did, they reviewed well and were a gigantic success), there is no reason for Disney to put her job in question.

The Force Awakens was perhaps a bit unimaginative but a very well done movie that felt like classic Starwars. Rogue One was great. And The Last Jedi seems to have a very positive buzz. Not sure what ousting Kennedy would be needed for.

I don't know. I was listening to random podcasts on youtube. Are Rey and Jyn really Mary Sues? Even if I thought so, I still think they were serious upgrades to Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman's portrayal of their respective characters. Yeah, the shuffling of directors is somewhat disheartening, but I enjoyed Rogue One enough that I didn't notice anything amiss. And I love the female leads on the same level that I loved Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford in their roles, so female led Star Wars is in no way a deal breaker for me the way it seems with other people.

I will say I'm somewhat wary of JJ Abrams returning. Did he have anything to do with Lost's ending? Will he give Episode IX an ambiguous ending for the sake of having an ambiguous ending? I hope he doesn't do that. Or..... would he plant possible seeds for a future set of films now that Star Wars is an ongoing franchise?

And to what extent does Kathleen Kennedy wield over Lucasfilm? Does she handle the TV shows? And who from the Lucas Story Group is the go between liaison between the films and tv shows? I assume the unspoken rule so far is to not introduce any film related material on the shows until they've made their official debut in the films, such as the Death Squad Troopers from Rogue One.

That being said, what are the chances that Lucasfilm will eventually begin poaching material worth salvaging from the EU? I know DC has produced animated films for years now. What are the chances that Disney could retool and adapt ideas from the comics, novels, and videogames into standalone animated productions?

They already reintroduced Thrawn to the canon. He is in the animated show Star Wars; Rebels.

Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of lifting story materials for adaptation in future productions. We're over 30 years removed from Return of the Jedi. That would be ideal fertile ground to cover, as it would be comfortably distant from the current era trilogy.

It's possible they could cover the creation of the New Republic as an anthology film, or as the backdrop to a potential animated series in the future.

If Thrawn survives in Rebels, you'd have a character that's ready to go in the new series and who could plausibly fill the void left by Vader and Palpatine. And a number of the writers on Rebels, Dave Filoni included, were fans of the Thrawn trilogy of books. A straight up adaptation would be impossible, but they could probably cull some of the more seminal moments from the novels and put their own spin on them, similar to how the Nolan films would repurpose their screen plays using storylines from the comics.
