Colin Trevorrow Exits Episode 9

Does anyone else hope at this point that Rey's parents are just some random people? I'd rather have it be that Luke is more like her adoptive father, and that the message of the trilogy is that you don't need to be part of a dynasty to do good, that who you are matters more than where you came from.
Yeah

Rey is a real guardian of the galaxy.

Count me in

If she's not Luke's of course

Yes. Part of Rey's growth as a character is letting go of the life she wanted and embracing the life ahead of her and this will not include her biological parents

Nope it would be for the better

It's alllllmost like someone murdering your would be father and almost murdering your friend would make someone angry

Also keep in mind.. she relaxes and embraces the power of the force in a calm fashion, like Maz showed her, before lashing out. Instead of just outright swinging to decapitate Kylo from the get go. Once they are actually in the thick of their fight, anyway.

Then pauses after she wins without finishing him off

There's a 0% chance she goes dark side. Maybe her parents abandoning her fuels her anger when she fights and they explore that during her training as a parallel to Ben's resentment of Han and Leia.

Interesting thought. There's a LOT they could do to parallel their journeys.. and also separate them.

One line I hope never happens:

Kylo, to Rey: "We're not so different, you and I"

While I don't like the prequels, John Williams was on his fucking A game for all three movies. Finding out that the Augie's Great Band victory theme from the end of Episode 1 was actually an upbeat version of the Emperor's Theme from Return of the Jedi fucking blew my mind.

No doubt. When I listen to his score separately I'm taken into another galaxy. One we didn't get in the PT.

Wow, I'll have to listen to this when I can.

If you guys appreciate that kind of info, definitely check out Rogue One's score and what that borrows from William's original score.

I really don't get why people (not saying you) push for this. Such a lame idea. Would pretty much undo all the groundwork laid out in TFA

because while I like her as a character, there's nothing there that's especially memorable. Finn is funny as hell and has great charisma, while emo boy has a lot of angles that he could go, so I'm very intrigued. I don't give much shit for female Luke if that's her trajectory unless they do something interesting with her. Treading the same ground is kinda meh for me.

Surely there are more interesting paths for Rey to take than simply turning her evil for the sake of having a twist?

Doesn't mean she's gunna be perfect, not face challenges, not make mistakes. Like be human.

I am legitimately most excited about the score in The Last Jedi, more than anything else. Especially because RJ is rumoured to be editing the film around the soundtrack. I'm not expecting E.T. tier but it's gonna be great, to borrow a Lucasism

There's been soon much tiring speculation that I'd honestly much rather have that and the fraud Snoke/crazy Kyle Ren outcomes be true.

I think it says something that so many want to see Rey become the villain. Or, like, the only way to make her "interesting" is for her to become evil.

Rey becoming a villain would be such an incredibly bad decision. We've already had one major protagonist
and member of the Skywalker family
succumb to the dark side, we don't need it again.

Well that sucks, I liked JJ's work with Episode 7 and would have enjoyed him jumping back on board. Oh well, how about they go from NuSpielberg to the real Spielberg

He did a great job with EP7. I just think JJ is very good at doing a very specific kind of thing, and closing a three part trilogy is not it. Jumpstarting a franchise and repositioning it on the map is something he excels at. Writing characters and concluding arcs.. I dunno

Well, I think he had a shitton of help from Kasdan. And I do agree with you but I don't think he's got what it takes to drive characters into interesting complexities. That's what Rian is great at

Things are gunna be different in the next two episodes. And I don't think JJ's abilities are enough to carry that change.

0/1 so far. There's plenty of ways it can go, I didn't say it needs to happen that way. But if she turns out to be female Luke which everything points to it (and Disney churns out mediocre storytelling on an annual basis), I'm not optimistic.

Saying that, I still really enjoyed Star Wars VII.

Yeah that's true, depending on where everyone is at post Episode 8 it might not be in JJ's wheelhouse.

Shit.

I forgot

We're getting a new JW SW score

How is it 0/1? Did she not make mistakes and face extreme challenges in TFA? And just because she's not gunna be evil doesn't have to mean she's gunna be "female Luke". There are so many paths they can take. I've got a feeling Rian's script isn't just gunna be a repeat of the last hero's path.

Yeah that's true, depending on where everyone is at post Episode 8 it might not be in JJ's wheelhouse.

Yeah, in some ways, JJ is kind of a one trick pony imo.
