College Football 2010-11 Bowls: *

I predict an Oregon win, especially if we start to clean up some of our shoddy D-line playing (especially with our special teams...). Auburn has a solid offense, but so do we; the key difference here is the defense, and I think Oregon has a better defense overall, despite choking at key points now and then.

I'm not sure they can stop LaMichael.

Looking back at my prediction for the year:

September
9/2 @ Hawaii -- W
9/11 Virginia -- W
9/18 @ Minnesota -- W
9/25 @ Wash St -- W

Hindsight: So far so good.

October
10/2 Washington -- L
10/9 @ Stanford -- W (lost 37-35)
10/16 California -- W
10/30 Oregon -- L

Hindsight: Well, wasn't so much Locker as our inability to finish games on defense. Not good. We should've won that game against Stanford, but I overstated Gerhart's importance. Oregon was easy to predict. Still, losing two games in a row, that we should have won, at the last second was hard to stomach.

November
10/6 Arizona State -- W
10/13 @ Arizona -- W
10/20 @ Oregon St -- L (we can't win in the state of Oregon, and Oregon State is usually a menace at this point in the year)
10/27 Notre Dame -- W (9 straight baby!)

Hindsight: Was right about Oregon State. Didn't realize the team would completely fall apart again the next week though, but then again I didn't know we'd have Mustain playing. Still shouldn't have lost. Argh.

December
10/4 @ UCLA -- W (Fucla, and their lack of offensive line + who? Prince? but I repeat myself)

Hindsight: Please, please stick around, Neuheisel :lol

Predicted: 10-3, 3rd in conference
Actual: 8-5, 3rd in conference

Well, got the positioning right, at least :D Should've won at least two of those games that we dropped, as well. Overall a disappointing year. Gonna be rough for a while yet.

Got a source for those?

LSU's spot from Josh
UT's from the rivals site
State's from Jacksonville paper
Georgia's from people in Memphis
FL's from some other report
USC's because the SEC championship loser can't fall below it
Bama and UK by process of elimination

They are playing
Bama vs. MSU
LSU vs. A&M
FL vs. Penn St.
USC vs. FSU
Miss St vs. Michigan
UT vs. UNC
UGA vs. UCF
UK vs. Pitt

Edit: Glad UT didn't get pumped up to Gator now I might be able to actually go.

It's tough to predict. Both have awful defenses, but outside of Auburn the SEC had a TON of awful offenses. So if Auburn's D is awful against awful offenses, what will happen against a good one?

That said, lately Oregon loves to find ways to embarrass the Pac-10 in non-conf play. Losing to Boise State two years in a row, losing to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl... losing to BYU in 2006.... every time I think they will roll somebody OOC, they choke.

For kicks, I'd say the first half will be full of mistakes and such. Second half will be high scoring. Whichever team turns the ball over more loses the game, final score 42-35.

They did win against Ok St a few years go. Although it sure looked like they were gonna get trounced in that one as well.

Oregon is definitely beatable, they've won thanks to conditioning and depth just as much as to talent and scheme.

Defensively the key for Auburn should be the same as Ohio St against them last year. Contain the run, play disciplined on the zone reads/play action and force Oregon to throw the ball. Thomas is a better passer than Masoli but I still think the more you make him throw the better off you'll be.

I probably shouldn't find this funny but I do....

The team that are able to hold up against Oregon have a defensive line that can handle that front. Auburn definitely has a crew there that can stand up.

In terms of throwing downfield, I watched just about every Oregon game this year (roommate's an Oregon fan), and they don't actually throw downfield that much. A lot of their passing game is predicated on crossing routes or getting players in space. Maehl is great at finding space in the middle of the field and picking up 15-20, but he's not going to stretch the field.

Huff has come on recently, though, but he's still not that big receiver that's blown up Auburn all year.

I'm leaning towards Auburn because I think you have to go with the better QB in these big games, but I'm probably rooting for Oregon. Just a damn fun team to watch.

10 years ago, I would care now I just want this season to be over

Debating whether or not I want to drive from Houston to El Paso to go see the Irish play.

With both teams the way they are it's more like Christmas Catholics vs. Parolees.

Otherwise, I hope LSU beats A&M (they're projected to play). Currently living in Texas and I despise them.

Feeling is mutual (which is what makes that matchup great... maybe the best non bcs bowl matchup this year). Really looking forward to seeing how we stack up against a good lsu team going into next year because we lose almost nobody off this years team.

Auburn are going to be national champions. We will finally have redemption from being overlooked in 2004, when we were obviously the best team in the nation as we are now.

Suck it haters, Cam Newton's winning the Heisman and the BCS bowl.

USC would have absolutely steamrolled you guys in 2004. You're actually lucky that you didn't go, so you can retain the delusion that you might have had a chance.

I don't get it.

Christmas Catholics only show up for mass on Christmas Eve. And Parolees are... well, Parolees. Both are less hardcore than their prior incarnations. He's suggesting that the match up will not be quite what it was back in 1988.

I would have been fine with Florida too. I'm just happy that we missed Missouri and Nebraska. And it's on New Year's. Maybe no one will notice if we lose.

Uh normally Miami vs. ND was called Catholics vs. Convicts.

Since I'm saying they are both mediocre right now it's like Christmas Catholics (those who only go to church on christmas) and parolees (not as bad as convicts).

Not a great joke, but whatever.

Ya that's what I said! :lol

Anyway, it was fun guys! I don't think I'll do as well next year. =/

Such a freakin joke that we play Nebraska. Not only is it a rematch but since we play again next year it will be 3 games in 12 months.

Really bitter that the Alamo picked Arizona. Can't go to the Holiday bowl but Alamo would have been easy.

Hmm. That's about 7-8 that seem reasonably interesting to me. Could be worse, I guess.

after watching every oregon game and a couple of auburn's, i'm not sure that lamichael james will be able to slip through the tiger's front line. they just seem too big/quick compared to the majority of oregon's competition this year. the typical option -> go through the middle for three-four yards on first and second down probably won't work very well.

also, i hold my breath every time thomas throws out of the pocket, especially when blitzed. you can only get so far on jeff maehl slant plays, kenjon barner's speed/strength, and special teams contributions. that said, i think oregon's defense has been severely underrated by a lot of people.

i have to pick oregon, considering that i go to school here, but i can't pick them with great confidence.
