Ohio St. isn't that bad.

Lonestar said:No doubt, Arkansas is a foul, lame football team, wholly undeserving of a BCS game. They are only there because of the insane whims of Don Miles, and belong in a bottomless pit of SWC teams.
But they have my bow/axe/bagel in the effort to vanquish the skunky buckeyes.
A big reason we stay relevant is because we have good players in the state of Ohio. Ohio is in the top 3 or 4 for high school football. Since tressels came in he's for the most part shutdown the borders. This was a big problem with Cooper, schools like michigan came in and got our states top players.LosDaddie said:I'm glad I only watched about 45min of the game last night. I started watching LOST when VT had a small lead and when I turned back on the game, Stanford had a huge lead. I really thought VT would keep it close, if not win.
Oh, ACC :lol
EDIT: RE: Michigan Discussion:
If tOSU can stay relevant, then so can Michigan. It's just going to be even more difficult to get back to "elite" status for UM than ever before. The B1G is down and, like TA said, the talent pool in the midwest is shrinking. UM really needs a hot HC hire to get recruits excited about the program again

The word is that they've actually lowballed him due to the amount of the buyout they'd have to pay Rich Rod and will now hire Brady Hoke (HC at SDSU).Bowser said:Looks like you can scratch Michigan from the Harbaugh race:

Likely as marvin Lewis can no longer fill that roles, speaking of which....sigh, why do you do this to me bungles.jakncoke said:That could just be the rooney rule effect
Why do black coaches agree to be interviewed for the Rooney Rule? It seems like, while the RR had good intentions, it's largely turned into a joke.jakncoke said:That could just be the rooney rule effect
Even if they aren't hired, I'm sure it gives them at least some sort of bargaining chip either now or later.Battlezone said:Why do black coaches agree to be interviewed for the Rooney Rule? It seems like, while the RR had good intentions, it's largely turned into a joke.
If the Cowboys approach me about their HC job, I know they have no intention of actually hiring me, because they have the guy they want. So why waste my time?

If so, how many DCs will you guys go through before the people that make these decisions realize that won't solve anyhting.
RR wants the best athletes on O. Recruiting skill players on D is not his priority. It is no coincidence that WVU's D has gotten better since 2008.I won't even bring up the whole Tony Gibson issue. Casteel was handcuffed under RR. Still can't believe Pacman somehow ended up at WVU during RR's tenure. I still think that was Pacman being Pacman and wanting to get pub for leaving ATL and GT (flip flop hat signing day scenario). No jokes about WVU's offense please.
I was hoping you guys got JH for the schadenfreude of watching RR get fired and I could go back to never watching a UM game again. What are the chances RR gets one more year? Or better question, do you think Michigan fans will accept that as an option?
Michigan will have a decision about the future of coach Rich Rodriguez on Tuesday. Rodriguez is set to meet with athletic director David Brandon this afternoon to talk about his job status, according to annarbor.com.
The website also is reporting that Wolverines players will learn of the decision at a 7 p.m. ET meeting.

Considering they actually get to bowl games and won their most recent one is a huge improvement over what they're used to.pxleyes said:It's not like he has been much better, let alone consistent.
I dunno, all my old coworkers were Illini fan and they weren't very happy. Winning the bowl game probably saved him I'd imagine.Talon- said:Considering they actually get to bowl games and won their most recent one is a huge improvement over what they're used to.
It's all about expectations. Illinois doesn't expect to be in contention to win the conference every year.

Good or meh?Alakablamo said:So our DL coach (Bo Davis) went to Texas, and we instantaneously hire Chris Rumph from Clemson. It's like this was planned in advance or something.

Illinois isn't like Georgia or really any SEC job with delusions of grandeur. Georgia fans are under the impression that they're some sort of national powerhouse when they have less national titles than Georgia Tech, and they'll always be 4th or 5th fiddle in that conference.
Lonestar said:Good or meh?
Read up some, he's been Clemson's recruiter on Clowney. That he's also just a good recruiter in generalAlakablamo said:Clemson's DL has been pretty good, but they've had guys like Bowers, Sapp, etc, the last few years. Considering how fast this happened, I would say that Saban got the first guy on his list, so... good?
Claim being the operative word.andycapps said:Georgia claims five national titles, Georgia Tech claims 4. With Georgia being in one of the best states in the country for recruits, huge football budget with massive surpluses, etc it's definitely in the top 10 for coaching jobs in the US. Up there with Penn State, Bama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, etc.
Still, Illinois is nowhere near as attractive to a head coach as Georgia given the types of recruits that one can get in the state of Georgia and southeast, versus the type of recruits you can get from Illinois and surrounding areas.

GTech's attributed 6 and Georgia's attributed 5 by the Official NCAA Division I Football Records Book. Georgia's a good program, but they are NOT in the same category as Bama, Ohio State, Texas, and the such.
Oh, sure, Georgia pulls as many resources in terms of money, facilities, and fans as any program in the country. No doubt about that. I'm just saying in terms of national recognition and pull.andycapps said:Regarding it not being in the same category, I suppose it depends on what you're talking about. If you're saying the same amount of national titles, then no. If you're saying that the school consistently gets top 10 recruiting classes, has good facilities, and a huge football budget then I think it's absolutely lumped in there with those other schools. Honestly, if Coach Richt is shown the door after 2011 season, I wouldn't be surprised if Kirby Smart came back home for a head coaching offer at his Alma Mater, even though he's next in line at Alabama.

I'm just annoyed because Georgia fans my whole life have acted like they're the class of the conference when they can't get past Florida.
I don't understand the fascination with Kirby Smart, to be honest. He has, what, two years of experience under his belt? As a DC under a coach that's known to be as hands-on with the defensive gameplan as any coach in college. I know Richt has had issues with discipline and more inconsistent play in the last two seasons, but he's a damn good coach that's won a lot of games for your program. You don't move on unless you're sure that you'll improve.
Unfortunately, expectations (again, back to this) have gotten out of hand in the SEC. I'm admittedly one of those guys that feels Phil Fulmer got a raw deal.
Clowney will definitely be a Cock. He's visiting us, LSU, Bama, etc. but it's just for fun. No chance he leaves South Carolina and I'd say Clemson has less of a chance than the others mentioned. They're a non-factor in his recruitment.LosDaddie said:I thought Clowney was a lock for USCe. Is that not the word on the street?
