College Football Thread - "Whoa, Nellie"

Prices are going insane

My brother in law who also went to IU is trying to get people to go in on a suite that seats 20 and the asking price is 1.5 million

For one fucking game

Man, you're gonna have a BLAST. I'll be 15 miles north of you, watching it on the TeeBee.
EDIT: I'm a dumbass -- the final isn't in Atlanta -- it's in Miami.

I was at the Citrus Bowl in 1991 when Tech won. We at least got to "share" a national championship that year. (Although if Tech had a "fifth down" like Colorado did, we might not have had a tie with NC State.)

NIL era is trash, desperately need a reset of the entire thing.

As a start, I would allow only 1 portal transfer per entire career for an athlete, only if they have been a starter for less than half the games of the prior season (if you're being regularly used as a starter on the team you signed on... sorry, you don't get to leave, you entitled brat). And that doesn't go for freshmen; you signed on to learn a system and eventually get to play, you don't get to transfer after just on year even if you're on the bench. Also, we can keep payment but put in place extremely low caps compared to now.

Stop trying to turn college ball into a minor league farm system, let us see kids go through school progressions on teams with actual rewards for loyalty. And require actual graduation with high GPA and other terms to be met by the player, or else give them a permanent exclusion from NFL drafts.

Used to be exciting to follow recruiting and such, but that's gone. You'll be lucky to get one or two years out of most kids before they jump ship. They need to put some parameters on this shit. Real pros don't have the freedom to jump around like college kids do now. We had two different things happen in college: 1) transfer portal 2) NIL and the combination of the two is creating a massive mess.

They need to do something as its only going to get worse as the money goes up

I know some big IU donors who have written large checks for upcoming NILs for Football

Indianas advantage is grown man football.

I have seen the age thing being discussed more as of late and it seems pretty smart to load your team with a bunch of older players with eligibility left who quite frankly aren't good enough to get drafted in the NFL

I saw a stat the other day that Carson Beck was in the same draft class as Bryce Young and CJ Stroud who have been in the NFL for a couple of seasons already

That FSU QB that played 20+ years ago Chris Weinke was 28 years old when he won the Heisman

Had dinner in Miami and one of the waiters said local businesses were told they were expecting around 250k IU fans in town this weekend
Good luck. Maybe go to juniper and play some golf. Or go tour the Everglades. Very fun.

Edit. I think you live down there some so I am an idiot.

IU is right in heart of Bloomington IN and right on campus just heard restaurants are charging up to $5k just to get in the door at gametime

Just blows my mind

I guess this stuff happens at other major campuses, just not something I have seen firsthand

Pretty biased reporting. And I appreciate it.

Have sung that song many times :)

She is right, Indiana shuts down for HS Basketball

I won 2 State titles in basketball and 3 in Baseball and honestly winning the State title in basketball before we had different classes is pretty close in my heart as winning the 1990 World Series, close

To get an idea how important HS basketball is here are the largest HS basketball stadiums in the US

We are heading that direction before too long, having an early dinner in South Beach first

I will grab some pics and post maybe tomorrow, depending on the outcome of the game and how hard we celebrate tonight :)
Have fun and enjoy the vibes!! I'll try to catch it on tv

Make sure you give the GAF hand signal so we can see you in the crowd shots.

If you told me the refs were Miami boosters I would believe you after that no call on the defense taking cheap shots on Mendoza.
