College Football Thread - "Whoa, Nellie"

So many coaches get out of contracts, these players should as well.

The unforeseen consequences and knock on effects of all this will be interesting. I saw recently that the Cowboys will reduce scouting efforts for smaller programs, largely due to the impact transfer portal which is kind of crazy since some of their all-time greats came from smaller (Demarcus Ware) and tiny (Larry Allen) programs. If other teams follow suit, you can't blame kids for wanting to go to bigger programs and the talent distribution will get even more top heavy.

Yeah, buyout clauses. They don't get out of the contracts for free. If other schools want to buy out that contract then sure, I guess. As things are, it is just a mess though.

Edit: Actually....I think buyout clauses would be a pretty good idea. It's one thing to buy out a contract for one coach. Quite another to buy out forty players.

I recall seeing Troy Aikman getting mad over NIL issues about writing a check then a player only stayed one year, said he was done donating

I for one have done it literally with my first big league check and every year since usually equaling 1% of my net worth

Silly enough now kind of makes me feel like part owner or some shit :)

Do they give you tickets.

>sigh<

Who'd a thought that all the things that turned pro football into a dumpster fire would do the same to college? Who COULD have FORESEEN this?

IU also brought in a better QB than the younger Mendoza so he knew he wouldn't play next year

Well, with King gone, he should definitely get some playtime. Is he any good?

Reddit got no chill.

IU and Purdue HATE each other

All I can say about this graph

Beck just doing Beck things

I also saw Beck said he wasn't quite right after that late hit on him and his ears were still ringing

Cry baby, Mendoza got his face bashed in and what should have been targeting and Mendoza just buckled down

100% honest here but when Miami started that final drive I told my wife Beck would throw a disastrous INT, its what he does

Living down here near Miami and listening to local talking heads has been quite entertaining

Listening to one show earlier and they were complaining how much the refs let the IU DBs get handsy with the Miami WRs and how much IU was holding them

I kind of felt it was the other way around but I know I am biased

The home town media is always the most biased. Just playing to the crowd. It was a physical game, but Miami has nothing to complain about as far as officiating. Kind of fitting that Mendoza's epic run through the Miami defense was set up by a horrible holding no-call on an IU receiver.

I didn't know Beck was like this, but he obviously he has zero class.

Yeah, since I'm an ACC(mostly) guy, I was pulling for Miami (honestly, I didn't care). But man -- that's really disappointing. Show some class, Sid.

No regret or anything either. I can almost understand if he was in shock, upset, whatever.....but doubling down on being classless? Even Pavia was better than that.

It's gonna be wild in a few years when I roll into a random Enterprise car rental and Carson Beck is my rental agent.

So really wanted to let it set into my brain before posing this question as I was telling my wife even entering the playoffs this was the greatest turnaround and maybe even greatest sports story in American sports history

I am open to suggestions of something that tops this, the losingest program in college football history when Cig took over to perfection

Our football team had 3 bowl wins in school history before this season

If football is fascism call me Tito.

Guys picked last in school PE don't like toughest team sport in the US

People don't get it how a very good well-oiled team can beat a physically better, less disciplined team like we just saw a few days ago

If Miami had the coaching and discipline that game wouldn't have been close in Miami's favor

I really hate Cignetti. I think he's a massive douche canoe but there's no arguing that what he has done at Indiana has already made him a legend. As a huge Ohio State fan we are looking at being a 4 loss team next year.

Also, Alabama shouldn't be anywhere near the top 10. They are the definition of fake good.

I think you guys open out Big Ten schedule next season unless I am misremembering

What an early season game

Oh come on, I'm a big ND fan (live fairly close to South Bend), and even I think this is ridiculous. Do they have a legitimate chance next year? Hell yeah they do, but I've watched too much ND football over the years to know they always find a way to blow the big game. I'd bet money on IU winning again next year long before I'd pick ND.

Edit: wait, why does that picture say 2025???

Thats funny whoever made the graphic forgot to change it to 26

I don't have a lot of faith in ND either though they just played for the Natty last season and almost beat Miami although it was very early this season

As long as Ohio State misses the playoffs, I'll be happy 🤣
