So, Jock has gone ahead and tweeted his take on the new Joker, and golly do you notice how horrifically fucked up it actually is when a talented artist (meaning "not Ed Benes") gives it a go. That Site has the picture, and you probably shouldn't look at it, considering the neato-scary factor. But it is guuud.

Can you link it? I think he deleted the tweet....

Justice League Dark #9 and 10: This book is a keeper on my pull list. I had a little problem with "getting the gang back together" since it was so dull the first time around, but things progressed swiftly enough not to ruin the book and i liked Dr. Mist and Faust and where the book is heading so far. Issue 11 is on top of the reading stack right now, hope it's good.

Also, after reading 50 straight digital issues and then going back to print, i missed print. Double paged spreads, the soft image of ink on paper, text that isn't the slightest bit blurry, flipping pages like they are pages...digital is best in smaller doses.

Advantages of digital for me:
Portable-er
Colors pop with backlight
Zoom
No glare on pages

I still prefer floppies, but now that a lot are coming with digital codes, it's a win-win.

I would proudly display this book on my living room coffee table alongside the works of F.Frazetta, N.Rockwell & J.Lee.

Somebody please buy it for me.

Yeah, it was a dumb idea to begin with. David Brothers nailed it on Twitter. Joker should be a criminal foil to Batman, not a psychopath he should have beaten to death with his bare hands years ago.

Eh, I think the "guy doing circus-themed crimes" thing ran its course. So did the "Batman-obsessed psycho", for that matter. Fingers crossed this "Death of the Family" thing closes the book on this by taking it to its logical extreme. Seems to be going this way, and Snyder did make Joker work in his 'Tec run. So, I'm hopeful.

I don't know what it is about it, maybe because it's older, but it's the least offensive, almost actually aesthetically pleasing drawing of his I've ever seen. The colors, maybe? It's kind of almost...pretty!

I know what you mean. It's got everything Liefeld gets clowned for (pouches, bad feet, bad anatomy, shitty looking guns, etc) but for some reason it just doesn't look too bad.

I do think it might be the coloring. That and the layout of the characters.

Colorist earned his pay for sure.

joker wearng his face is like reverse hush,i think synder is smarter than people think.

also kirkman is teasing a big death in invicbile shocker i know.

Warhawk's right arm is anatomically hilarious, his forearms are bigger than his shoulders!!

EDIT: And of course.... so many pouches on Cable

seems like Justice League Dark #13 spoils the ending of the Books of Magic miniseries? I think i'll probably skip ordering the deluxe hardcover that's in the november solicits O____O

How does it spoil it? I haven't read Justice League Dark but I'm not sure how it could spoil Books of Magic. The miniseries is very good and touches on a lot of the magic heroes of the DCU. And features a great role by John Constantine. It's the introduction of the character so it ends in a very obvious place. I would definitely pick up the hardcover if I didn't already own the old tpb.

let me know if this is a big spoiler:

Timothy Hunter decides to give up magic and return to his normal life

Constantine is smarter than Xanadu. She gave people options, JC just threw the candy in the windowless van and slammed the sliding door shut behind them.

I don't think it's major. That does remove a bit of tension, but the story is still great even knowing that going in. And I'm not even a big Neil Gaiman fan. All the other Tim Hunter stuff pales in comparison.

Is that spoiler the ending though?
I don't know what happens as I never read the original Books of Magic mini, but I am vaguely aware of two other things:
1) Following that original miniseries, there was a 75 issue ongoing with the same name. (I don't actually know if it followed on or not or was even in the same DC Universe, but I do know it exists)
2) The universe has since been rebooted and its entirely possible that neither series is in continuity.

Now I'm certainly planning to pick up the hardcover, and for me the knowledge of either of the above things is not going to detract from my enjoyment of the book (so long as the series is good) or my enjoyment of JLD ;)

and we're off! Conan hardcover collecting Brian Wood's first six issues of the series.

in the solicits for November ..but doesn't release until January :( I hate pre-ordering books so far in advance. Absolute Top Ten in november solicits doesn't come out until April. I thought DC said they were cutting back the solicit/release delays for absolutes and statues? Ridiculoussssssssss.

Also a 5 issue Willow miniseries written by Jeff Parker, takes place during season 9 on a main plotline.

Up to date on Invincible, still really good. Slowly getting excited for issue 100!

Read the first seven issues of Batman as well, that is fucking fantastic. Need to get to the store to get the rest of the issues tomorrow.

Maybe it's because I ripped through Preacher in about a week--it became more like an assignment. On the other hand, I did the same for Scalped but ended up loving it and trying to get friends to buy and read it.

Well, try not doing that in future. Binging is the worst way to consume anything. I've been reading Preacher at a leisurely pace of about one hardcover every few months. If I read stuff that quickly, none of it sticks.

Saga #6 was awesome this week.

Wonder Woman was great this week too, and that ending!

Daredevil #17 was beautiful that ending was such a tearjerker ;.;

Megaman 16 was great as well, looking forward to the upcoming story arc and
Breakman

Overall a great comic book week ^_^v

Snyder is cray cray :)

Scott Snyder said:

He did 1 to around 70ish I think but came back for the year 1 story. 138?-153 was good too but some of that isn't on there. I liked the annuals and the Flash+ Nightwing also. Robin Year one I liked and Nightwing/Huntress too... the few Birds of Prey are good too. The Devin Grayson stuff isn't in the sale but the Bruce Jones stuff is. Thats the 1 year later thing and I'd probably say don't get it.

lol sorry, he's my favorite Batperson

Which issues are good? Nightwing #1-?

At least the late 40s, maybe even right up to ~70 when he left. It's a notable series for featuring great art by guys who later became hacks. It kicks of with Scott McDaniel doing some of the best work of his career and then Greg Land takes over. But it's not phototracing Greg Land! He actually draws stuff and it looks fluid and good!

It was a good series, especially for the time. It's a little vanilla but it's good punchy-punchy stuff with a decent supporting cast.

This is about right. After Dixon left, the next writer thought it would be interesting to have Dick (heh heh) get raped by a female supervillain....

Just copped Mad Love yesterday and holy shit, it's great. It was also interesting realizing how easily all of the Batman TAS voices starting going off in my head as I read through it. Cool stuff.

What do you guys think about the giant 52 omnibus coming out in November? Is the series worth it? I have two random tpbs lying around from when I first started legitimately reading comics but I'm curious if the story is worth it in absurdly-large-form?

Who knows, they are going to be doing something big with Damian soon I've read though so take that as you will.
Lemire and Snyder also hinted that they would be doing something together soon akin to Swampy/A-Man. I could see something happening to Damian which spins him off into another title that Jeff writes.
