Fraction has been constantly overpraised. His mainstream Marvel run has been mostly mediocre ever since he moved away from Fist.

His Thor and X-Men are pure garbs

This is why I'm tempering my excitement over Defenders.

Can Gillen write Defenders instead? Please?

I was reading Knightfall today for the first time. Man, this is such a great series, jean Paul makes for a hell of a Batman, and a great dichotomy to Bruce.

Back when Dick was still Batman, I fantasized about a "New Justice" book with Dick, Donna, Wally, Connor Hawke and Mon El.
Doesn't that line up exist in some form? An elseworlds or something?

I wish we could reach a point where Dick, Donna, and Wally could become Batman, Wonder Woman, and Flash and not get demoted again.

But I know better :(

Wait for the next 52's next October brah.

And what is an editorial mandate? I've read some people talk about it saying that it keeps books like Avengers Academy and Generation Hope alive.

It's essentially an internal rule by the editors to keep certain things intact if I am not completely mistaken.

If only. :(

Whiny neckbeards and the threat (and probable reality...at least for a bit) of less profits will make sure it never happens.

If y'all want change - there are plenty of talented indie creators that do change their books up that could damn well use your money.

But keep on pissing and moaning and handing that cash to Disney and Warner Bros.

The term "editorial mandate" usually has negative connotations, and gets reserved for times when the editorial staff affects significant changes to the direction of a story to the detriment of the writer's vision.

Sometimes they work out; usually they don't.

Hey I picked up Savage Dragon on your recommendation...and because Hulk is sucky now and I need a new book with dudes beating shit up.

To me, it's just feels like it's giving me more bang for my buck per issue.
EDIT: I guess it just serves as a nice alternative to the main series.

Detective has been great, not sure why people are so disappointed in it. Action packed, great art, great villain, good cliffhangers. Not sure what else people are looking for in a comic. Sales are great too, so it's seems to just be a very vocal minority that dislike 'Tec.

Here's some stuff I've enjoyed involving men and monsters. Some indie some corporate.

Aw yeah Savage Dragon! :D

Good time to come back.

I'm hoping Larsen can juggle
Dragon and Malcolm
concurrently, better than how he juggled Malcolm in Dimension X while he was head of Image.

So, did anyone here read Holy Terror? I was wondering how good it was, regardless of how stupid the reason for writing it was. Aside from stores not bringing it here I don't think I can judge it fairly because of who I am.

Anyone read Avenging Spidey yet? I need some impressions!
Same here brah, already went to the shop and I need to know.

Also brahs, what companion X book do you guys reccomend I pickup besides New Mutants? I'm leaning towards Legacy because I love Gage on AA.

Astonishing isn't out yet, but Pak? Should be pretty baller. X-Men is kind of just okay so far. I assume you're getting Uncanny, right? Also Generation Hope should be good.

WTF? I just read that Jason Aaron will be off Wolverine after they renumber the series early next year. Just when I start getting into Wolverine they take Aaron off the title. :(

Also, I hate renumberings.

Right now I'm getting Uncanny, WaTXM, and New Mutants. Generation Hope interests, but it being a low seller and Marvel canceling titles makes me wary of picking it up.

And wow at the last page of Avengers Academy last issue. Crazy.

Polybagged.

Renumber? They're going back to the old numbering, with Wolverine #300 by Aaron and Kubert. And that's the first I've heard about Aaron being off Wolverine, where did you hear that?

Uncanny X-Force!!!

Never in my life have I been so thrilled by a
complete and utter lack of resolution.

Comics perfection.

Dark Angel beat some ass this issue damn sooo good.

X-Force is the best book on the stands right now, mainstream or otherwise. Unparralleled year-and-a-half run.

Care to summarize it for me ? I am behind by like 3 issues now. If they kill Angel and split him and Betsy up I will be so mad.

That's what I meant. I don't like it when they start at #1 so people will snatch up #1s and then be like "oh, time for a milestone! Let's go back to the original numbering." I need some commitment.

As for the news, I don't know how credible "A Comic Book Blog" is, but I like to read their reviews.
So let’s talk opinions. It’s a streak ladies and gentleman. Three issues in a row of of great comic book. If only Jason Aaron could have done such a great job from the beginning, he might not be leaving this book. (What’s that you say? Leaving? Well, as of issue #300 (yes, it’s getting renumbered AGAIN) Jason Aaron is no longer the writer)
There's some very impressive art throughout, but the story is just a huge mess. That's setting aside the reprehensible ideology altogether.

I still want some opinions on Batman Noel.

I ended up just getting Penguin: Pride and Prejudice and Deathstroke. I was tempted to get Avenging Spider-Man, but I ultimately decided against it.

Why has Marvel been polybagging so many comic books lately? I thought we had pretty much accepted those as a bad idea for the last 15 years or so. If they're going to bring back polybagging then they might as well go all the way and bring back chromium too.

DC continues its absolutely asinine trade policies for the New 52. Collections will begin to appear in May, but will be rolled out gradually through November. This means that - assuming everything stays on schedule - some arcs won't be collected until eight or even nine months after their completion.

Loved the Green Lantern ending this week and the story seems to be progressing with the Guardians. Maybe they will reveal one of the remaining ten laws next year. Gasp!

Bette Kane's Flamebird costume is soooo 70s

I now understand why Kate planned to destroy it if she got her hands on it. :lol

I was all like :O at the end. When is issue 4!

Resurrection Man is such a fantastic series, one of my favs of the new 52, and issue 3 was probably the best one yet.

Also it seems like Harley's costume becomes less and less clothing as the months go on.

Yes. Go buy it. Amazon is like 50% cheaper than my local comic store. I'd like to say more about the surprises in the book but I don't want to spoil it. Really good gift too. :>

I caught the preview on CBR, and it's soooo horrible. First, no more greasepaint for Harley; her entire body is now the same sickly white pallor as the Joker. Second, she's complaining to her teammates about how her skin color prevents her from blending in as they don civilian clothes... while she squeezes into a pair of Daisy Dukes and an unbuttoned flannel shirt knotted just below her cleavage. They're going undercover, her clown skin is a dead giveaway (not to mention that terrible dyejob), so... show more skin?

Generation Hope may well get a pass from cancellation until further into 2012, since it's very much part of the buildup to the 2012 Phoenix event. At least, I hope so... unless Asmus' first issue or two fails to maintain the quality of Gillen's run, in which case I won't particularly care.

Eh, that's not so bad. The trades start, what, three months after the first stories start wrapping up? That's not so bad. And if they flooded the market with 52 trades in a month it would be carnage. That pace of one or two a week means people can catch up with releases.

I tell you what though, I'm really not fussed about hardcover collections of short runs. They don't bend very well i find. Omnibus things like Starman or Preacher work fine since there's a lot of pages, but the 6 issue ones read strangely. And I think it might actually be the worst way to read books like batwoman which rely on double page spreads. They never work well in that format.
