Don't know what to make of it, I wonder what this means for the new 3D kof they were developing

SNK has a gold mine of titles that are just waiting to be re imagined on modern technology

I'm sorry but have you touched the PC version at all? Switching between full screen and windowed it's very obvious, even with windowed it's slight but still noticeable.

Yes, I've put countless hours into both the PC version and PS3 version, used the same monitor for both.

I play all fighting games in window mode (so I can do whatever while someone joins my game) and had zero issues with input lag in XIII.

Same here. The Steam version has 0 problems and is actually one of the best PC FG ports this gen.

Well.. I doubt this sale means SNKP titles wont leave the Chinese borders... SNK Playmore now just have a parent company. If anything it could help them get the funding (and direction) they need to make the jump into the current generation.

...

I know everyone loves their 2D sprite art but that shit is expensive and clearly not as scalable as 3D models... SNKP should look at Capcom, Namco & Arc System Works and just use Unreal SDK going forward.

It will save them a lot of time and money... and we can finally get the games we love.

And this is probably the answer that's closest to what we can expect. SNKP finally has a parent who can give them the funding and clear direction they need, while also having a backer who can help extend those SNK properties to other venues again.

Comics, animated features, other types of spin-offs that could fill the mobile space...SNK/SNKP is no stranger to these types of things. And maybe we can actually start seeing them again, since SNKP will have money.

And yeah, the most realistic thing to expect is that SNKP will be going 3D in some shape or form. At least the model for Leona on the most recent recruitment site looks alright.

It's still there when using full screen though, and even in windowed attacks feel like they don't come out as fast as they should. Plus the online netcode doesn't seem that great.

Zheng Jianhui commented that the main reason for their acquisition of SNK Playmore is their vast number of game IPs and the all the tie-ins the characters are involved in. In particular, he mentioned that going forward they aim to follow the “Marvel formula”, where the Marvel Universe has branched off into different spaces including comics, games, television, and movies to form a complete and synergistic IP profile.
Dunno, this sound way better than pachislot machines.

Don't care. SNK died when Playmore bought it.

In case you don't know, Playmore was founded by the same man who founded the original SNK, Eikichi Kawasaki.

From the wiki:

SNK saw little success on the video game market due to (reportedly deliberate) under-financing on Aruze's part, so the original founder, Eikichi Kawasaki left the company, along with other executives, to found the company named Playmore on August 1, 2001.

In an attempt to regain control of SNK, Kawasaki's new company, Playmore, successfully bid for and was awarded SNK's intellectual rights in late 2001. The company then began to bolster its assets and rehire many former SNK employees.

Who does? G-Mode, from the Data East bankruptcy?

I think end of 2013 Windjammers for Wii Virtual Console was delisted. It's the only Neo Geo game delisted. Other Data East ggame ike Puzzle Drop, Street Hoop and Fighters History Dynamite are still a very to buy.

I thought they did it because they were planning to do something. A shame it never got released on the US Virtual Console while the other mentioned games did.

is this good or bad?

i will continue to live in fear until we know more. it's always snk man.

Sounds good so far tbh, the company aims to make heavy use of SNK's IPs via games, animation, manga etc. in a Marvel sort of manner. Their primary objective was to acquire the IPs to do big things with them it seems.

All we've been getting from SNK since KOFXIII is ports and mobile/Pachinko games.

okay, this doesn't sound so bad. we've been getting lots of great gaming news this year. hopefully this is no different.

The question is, if they will make more than mobile stuff or pachinko games.

And if they are, will the West get them?

... cautiously optimistic. A new infusion of money always seems to keep the KoF dreams alive a bit longer, and maybe this will help other I.Ps as well. The fighter landscape isn't nearly as fun without their contributions.

Really wish KoC became a thing internationally / console wise over this long hiatus.

I really hope this means we will finally get new KoF and Garou games.

An official manga/anime for KoF would be fantastic too, as there is a ton of lore and story arcs that can be tapped upon.

I'm a little excited about this news. I was just thinking that it would be great if a company with a lot of money bought SNK and actually encouraged them to be a creative force again. Would be nice if Capcom had a legitimate (if friendly) rival for Street Fighter. Competition is always a good thing for consumers.

Also, dat Chinese exposure. Big market.

I'm just hoping that SNKP's early-stated announcements to support KOF and Samurai Shodown come to fruition. I especially need a new (and GOOD) SS game in my life.

Anyway, hope this is the start of an upward trend for SNKP. After word got out about the terrible working conditions during the XII/XIII era, it's no wonder "SNK is hiring" ended being a bit of a meme.

1st order of business is to change Athena's new face please.

I'd rather have them revive the classic Athena with a new game - the original game had interesting ideas that fell short due to execution.

Phase 1: Fatal Fury and Art of fighting reboots first, then tying into KOF reboot

Phase 2: ikari Warriors and Psycho Soldiers revivals and another Metal Slug/Ikari Warriors crossover, KOF sequel and Samurai Showdown Reboot.

Phase 3: Last blade reboot, Sequels to Fatal Fury and Art of fighting and Kizuna Encounter reboot, KOF sequel with Metal slug and Kizuna encounter characters thrown in, Last Blade x Samurai showdown crossover culminating in a reboot of Neogeo Battle Colloseum.

KoF MI already tried to merge together the South Town games (FF and AoF) and KoF to a certain extent.

Metal Slug and Ikari Warrior have been crossing over since MS6, mostly through Ralf and Clark being in it and later games.

NGBC2 looks doable before most of those, if they feel like using DLC as a way to measure the popularity of other series.
(I'd like a new Top Hunter)

Lol...
The man Viagra mode is a weird translation of "漫威模式"

漫威 is the Chinese name for "Marvel"."模式" means model. They want to emulate the Marvel model of using their IPs so they're not just thinking of games, like I said in my earlier post, but also comics and movies. They want SNK to become the Marvel Universe of the Gaming industry.

*Fapfapfapfapfap...*

Seriously though, I've been following the stories of their games for over 20 years now, and I'l love to see them well transplanted to a proper narrative medium like comics.

On the other hand, I'm afraid these declared efforts never leave Asia, and never go beyond the quality of previous Hong Kong manwa...

I'd pay good money for some localized artbooks of their work, but they don't really seem to engage with the kind of companies that handle stuff like that even if it's niche, like Udon... If this kicks off a more proactive international push, then it might be worth it.

Will snk still let us know nothing until a game is about to be released?

I doubt it gets to that extent, but I wish their used their social media better - they never respond to anything and use 6 different Facebook pages that just repeat content between them.

This explains the KOF moba

That was in Thailand and AFAIK never left that country.

There's no denying that China does like SNK fighters in general

Ah, yes. The KOF/SvC manhua by Andy Seto.

They tended to have great art. Too bad everything else, like story and characterization, left much to be desired. I'd be all for bringing him back though, if it meant somebody else could take over the writing details.

It would still suffer from some sameface syndrome.

Something akin to the Ken-siu Chong run on Udon's SF comic would be nice - now that's someone who understood the characters and mostly knew when it was worth bending the canon to take it to interesting directions.

I guess it didn't bother me as much because I always thought it fell right in line with old-school Shinkiro having a lot of sameface, as well, haha.

But be as it may...a manga/manhua would be pretty much the first thing I would say should be on the docket for coinciding with whenever the next KOF game (finally) comes out. Then if they get the money to do more "Another Day" style specials/OVAs to get the ball rolling...

Is that Chinese KOF-like game gonna be released any time soon? Cuz it's been in development hell for so long and I've really been wanting to play it.

Was there ever a 3d Kof in development though ? Last time they hired 3d artist for new 3d project it was about a slot machine one so yeah we will never know...

As for the news I don't know how to think of it. At first SNKP wasn't developing new titles for consoles at all, just ports and mobile games (their ms defense is kinda successful ) so you'd think now there are chances.
But... it's a chinese company. Do we know any chinese game that has made it to the rest of the world ? Usually they develop titles just for china, there might be a chance now with the lift of the console ban but still its a gamble ,as far as we know the new kof might be a f2p china only game like King of combat

Their job posting for the new mainline KOF (and SamSho for that matter) specifically asked for 3D and console experience.

The posting also had a Kyo 3D model displayed at first and has recently been updated to a Leona 3D model.

So yeah, the chances of KOFXIV being 2.5D are pretty high.

Between those two it also had a glimpse of a Iori model for a while.

If it's anything like GG Xrd, would that be bad? Granted I missed nice 2D art, but man Xrd looks stunning with how it almost looks 2D outside of certain scenarios.
