Console only gamers, what keeps you from PC Gaming?

You get a new game, play a few matches, find a few good servers, bookmark em.
You play on them some more, after a day or two you recognise the regulars who always play on those servers.

Yeah the sense of community is much stronger in multiplayer FPS because of this.

I don't play games on a PC because I would hate to play any game with a mouse and keyboard rather than a control pad.

Yeah, everybody knows that gamepads can't be used on PC, right? ... oh wait!

For me it's the fact that games are designed primarily for consoles. While the performance is obviously superior on PC, there really aren't a whole lot of major exclusives these days.

It really depends on what kind of games you like.

Yup , and a fixed community is a self policing community.
You don't need 700 restrictions and dumbing down things that could result in an exploit to the same excent, because people don't have nearly the same degree of anonymity.

People collectively decided not to abuse the auto sniper in cs, people didnt tk or grief on clanservers and 'regular crowd' pubs.
People didn't act like douchebags just because they could.
People in rs didn't scam and steal and deceive in general because at the end of the day your name was all you had (until they started adding enough servers for people to return to an anonymous state).

Pubs are in general the shitheap of online pc communities, and on my ps3 all I get is random pub servers.

There's so much variety in PC games...you just need to branch out a bit.

I picked up Terraria on Friday and I haven't been this hooked to a game since Minecraft. This is one of the few games that I'd lob in with the likes of Demon's Souls and Monster Hunter. It's not punishing like those games, but it has that extremely addictive quality to it and that sense of wonder that just makes you keep wanting to delve deeper and deeper into it. I've put probably 25-30 hours into it in 2 and a half days (had a lot of spare time this weekend, since the family is out shopping in the U.S.).

Of course, many people just can't see beyond the $50 Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, or the $60 Dead Space 2, or the usual big hitters to find these amazing gems.

That's what I was trying to get across with my post :s

Firing up a Ps3 game is a nightmare. I think it took 35 minutes to finally be playing Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. FW downloads on PS3 are INSANELY slow.

Hehe, PS3... man. I usually only turn it on to watch Blu-ray movies, but when I get a game for it, it certainly takes a bit to get it going. I got L.A. Noire this weekend after not having played a PS3 game for a couple of months. I wanted to put in that DLC bullshit, so I had to update PSN which took around 10 minutes. Then after booting up the game I had to do a 5 minute install.

It was worth it, though. L.A. Noire is fucking awesome (although I only played for an hour or so--I had The Witcher 2 to finish!)

How old is your Mac? If it's within the last three years or so, you should be able to just install Windows on the thing and go. There are some good games available natively for Mac on Steam and from Blizzard, too.

Blow some minds with this.

Many of those were awesome (surely not any worse than the pos mappacks for killzone and cod), entirely new game modes were invented when people messed around with the map editor and settings.

When a game is successfull and the mod tools are there ,every morning is like christmas.

Battlefield was one of the kings when it came to modding (ironically bf3 will be riding on the coattails of those games while missing the thing that made it popular, sigh people chasing a carrot that no longer exists) and the giving from those games just never stopped.

I just prefer console gaming. I started gaming with an Atari 2600 and a Commodore 64. Like Steve Tyler was recently quoted saying:
Some people like pineapple on their pizza and I don't. No big deal.
I'm not oblivious to PC gaming, I don't go around talking about "lol videocards" "lol installs" lol keyboard mouse eewww"; is just not my thing...for now.

I hate DLC maps, another terrible thing from the console land people are trying to push. Is it just me or has online gaming just been getting worse and worse cause of consoles? Luckily some companies still get it.

It's because Microsoft and other big companies know they have a captured audience on a closed platform that will pay for just about anything.

God I love mods. I can't describe how blown my mind was when I first decided to try out the Age of Empires:RoR demo online and found out you could use more than one map through mods.

Yeah, see the difference here is he didn't say;

I don't like pineapple on my pizza because it costs $4000 a gram and is only obtainable if you sign up for a timeshare at the same time. Also it has a spongelike texture that make it impossible to eat while sitting down, so you either have to stand while eating it, or insert it rectally.
Anyway, I have some pineapple flavoured gummy bears here, and they're just as good, only elitist pricks like pineapple. Fuck the glorious pineapple master race.

The heck? I just just talking about me. Since the thread/OP is asking about MY reasons, and I used Tyler's quote as part of it. :p

I'm just not interested in PC gaming. I don't hate it, I'm not a blig fanboy that goes around parading about it; making lame excuses like "comfy couch" or "keyboard mouse" or " installing drivers".... I'm just not interested for now. I know the many advantages and other things PC gaming offers, but still...

That what's "keeps me away from PC gaming". Lack of interest. When I finally get really interested, I'll buy a decent computer and couple of games, already have Steam with a few games and an unplayed copy of Portal 2.

EDIT:

However irrational it is, I can't blame them.
It's easy to link an image/sound/situation with an emotion.

I've had songs ruined for me for life by listening to them while under a lot of exam stress or when getting some particularly bad news.

The taste and smell of frosties cornflakes made me super nostalgic and happy after not eating any for over 20 years.

Yes, we are reminiscing about the old days, sharing our enthousiasm , the ups and downs in the rollercoaster of our gaming life.
Sorry if you feel excluded.

Basically i already have a PS3 and 360 which plays all of the games i would buy on the PC and they each have their own must have exclusives. I see no reason to buy a desktop to play games i can already play just at a higher resolution and with better textures. The last time my primary computer was a desktop was during college and that was 10 years ago, so upgrading is not an option.

When i play Batman AA on the PS3 and then look at the PC screens im not jealous or feel that i am missing out on anything. The game looks good enough to me as it is.

Yes, and they've all agreed that PC gaming has absolutely zero flaws, and no one has ever had a legitimate reason for not loving it, ever. We're all just failing in our duty, making "excuses" because we are "lazy."

Games like Demon's Souls/Dark Souls

/thread.

sorry to reopen the thread just to say this, but this is why I have a PS3 in addition to my PC

you don't have to choose only one or the other

Dark Souls and Uncharted 3 are two reasons I won't consider ditching my PS3

I'm glad we're finally getting somewhere.

No, upgrading is a wonderful option, you have a desktop, and you did not go to college.

No, you hate it.

Whoa, Gravijah's back?! :O!
Why were you banned in the first place? I know Raichu avatars should be bannable offenses, but still.. :p

I play console games for the exclusives. I play PC games for the exclusives. I play whichever version of a multiplat game is the best (which ends up being PC most of the time).

I don't really understand why people don't do this.

No sense of community is one. I mean yes there are countless groups of gamers on PC, but I've been gaming with the same buddies since 2004. Its kind of hard to not game with them.

Secondly, money. I in college and money is hard to come by.

Honestly I would love to build my own rig, but I needs the money.

It's cooler to just avoid platforms for reasons that aren't true.

I'd love to play Gears of War 3 but, friend codes? Fuck that shit!

Damn! I missed that!! :(

In any case, more games should do/use the Steam-integration Portal on PS3 had.
Playing Portal 2 coop with a friend that had it on PC was really nice.

I'd say "hopefully it's a sign of the future" but I think there were a few games on the PS2 that could play with the PC version and it hasn't really got off the ground yet.

A better thread title or a better question to ask is "PC gamers, why still have consoles? why not ditch the console all together?"

That would be a terrible question to asks. We're gamers first and foremost, not PC gamers exclusively.

EricHasNoPull said:

Not a single PC gamer in this topic, that I'm aware of, is a PC-only gamer and I'd venture to say the majority of them see no reason to get rid of their consoles. Speaking for myself, there's no way I could go without my PS3, 360, DS, or PSP as a gamer; Wii is iffy currently but, hey, Xenoblade soon hopefully. Too many exclusives across the board to remove an entire system from my repertoire.

That said, I also have the capacity to go ahead and have all of them; I wager if there came a time to start dropping these luxury expenses then maybe I'll have a different opinion. Currently though, no reason to ditch the consoles at all.

EricHasNoPull said:
So as a "gamer" a desktop PC in never enough for your gaming needs?

Seems like a loaded question, honestly, but ... no, no it's not. But, the same applies to every console. A 360 alone isn't enough; a PS3 alone isn't enough; a Wii alone isn't enough, and so-on.

EricHasNoPull said:

If I'm talking about just occupying my time, yes it would be enough...but that's not enough for me. I want to play Catherine, Gears of War 3, Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, the next Mario, etc... There are countless games that I do want to play that are not available on PC. I have the disposable income to sustain this hobby, so I would simply be doing myself a disservice by ignoring the many great titles available outside the PC.

I own a gaming PC, as well as every console, and every hand held. I spent around $2500 on my PC, and around $1800 on my consoles + handhelds (in terms of hardware). It's a tidy sum, but that's enough hardware to give me 5-7 years worth of gaming (though I surely will upgrade my PC down the line). For a hobby in which I spend so much time on, it's worth it to me.

Gravijah said:
No single platform is ever enough as a gamer, IMO.

But not everyone has the luxury of time and finances to buy and play games on multiplatforms (see Scy's post above yours)

And is a gamer really defined by the amount of gaming platforms he or she owns?
