It has changed a lot the settings and experiences of video games with this generation.

What mode do you prefer?

I always choose the Fidelity mode, in fact I prefer the improved graphics and the resolution, the FPS for me is not important.

Man I'm really in a bind regarding the new Zelda. Probably 25/30 fps? Put 260 hours or so in BotW but and yes it's fucking Zelda and I want it but fuck me if it's not gonna be rough. Sigh.

I honestly can't tell the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS in those videos you posted unless I pause them and actively look for differences, so, fidelity mode makes no sense for me. I much rather have the fluidity of 60 FPS, that's a much more obvious upgrade.

almost always performance mode
but it can hurt inside based on a game.

horizon perf mode is a no brainer for example it looks basically same.
for guardians of galaxy it was a 1080p blur fest.

I think the only game where I didn't mind 30fps is Miles Morales on PS5. The Quality Mode doesn't feel terrible surprisingly enough.

I barely notice any difference in graphics between the 2 modes, but i notice a huge diference in framerate, so usually pick the Performance mode.

Always performance mode, I never even bother checking what I'm missing out on. 30fps is and has always been horrible for any type of game with any type of action. I can play strategy games and slow RPGs in 30fps but I still frown whenever a camera is panning sideways and I see that 30fps s-s-t-t-u-u-t-t-t-t-e-e-r-r, it just looks bad.

Almost always performance.

In most games I've played on Ps5 the graphical difference between the 2 modes comes down to stuff I only notice if I'm actively looking for differences or watching a side by side comparison, but which I'll hardly notice when I'm actually playing the game. Meanwhile the difference between 30fps and 60fps is pretty dramatic and instantly noticeable.

The only 2 games I didn't play in performance mode were Guardians of the Galaxy and Miles Morales.
Guardians because the visual difference was very big (and the gameplay wasn't very good anyway) and Miles because I wanted to check out the 40fps mode, which actually felt like a decent compromise between the 2 modes.

Depends on the game and how the fidelity mode is in terms of input lag, maintaining the framerate and such but i've chosen fidelity more than performance this generation.

Edit: 40fps on 120Hz TV is the way to go for me.

If I have the choice I'll go with 40fps40hz.
If this mode isn't available, I choose 60fps.
30fps doesn't feel right no more.

Depends on the game. Slow and focus on immersion, fidelity if it's a significant visual upgrade. If 40fps are available I take those.

Fast paced, like Returnal, performance, 60 fps.

Fidelity, if i wanted high framerates and get a pc without having to make as big of sacrafices for it as i would on ps5 and series x

Really depends, sometimes performance is at such a big cost like going all the way down to 1080p it's just not worth it. In other cases the quality mode differences are barely noticeable, or it has framerate dips that just feel way worse at a 30 cap. Can also depend on the speed of the game, if you changed Hitman 3 to 30fps without telling me I would probably never notice since it's so slow paced, whereas in a racing game I'd notice right off the bat.

30fps feels like something that belongs to a bygone age, like 720p, or gaming magazines with demo discs on the front, or coin op arcade cabinets.

They had/have their place, but they aren't something the majority is interested in anymore.

In short, we expect better.

I haven't played a game at 30fps by choice for years.

Now, don't get me wrong, there were some great games, all time great games, that were only 30fps (and not a stable 30 at that).

But, I think the time has come to retire it as an option and force developers to hit 60fps - and to offer an option to lower some settings (or a lower settings mode pre baked into the options) rather than forcing people to lower the resolution just to hit 60...but that's just my opinion.

It's generally always performance for me. Ratchet and Clank is the only PS5 game I've played that seems smooth during fidelity mode. Demon's Souls in fidelity is unplayable for me.

Developers should learn from Ghostwire: Tokyo and include more settings. There's like 6 settings.

I can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps so I go with graphics mode.

How can't you tell. No I'll intent it just baffles me. Even with Elden Ring on Series S I could feel a huge difference between a locked 30fps and unlocked 45/50fps.

6 settings? Please tell
