I find a nice onion chopped up and cooked with the meat served on white rice does wonders. I never tried it with cabbage, i'll have to do that. But corned beef and rice is a staple for me growing up.

This makes for about the best reubens, ever, trust me. So easy to make, too.

Get yourself a 4 lb or so Corned Beef Brisket. (Available in the meat section of pretty much any grocery store)

Drop it into a crock pot.

Pour two bottles of Guinness on top.

Pour two bottles worth of water.

Set the slow cooker to low and let it cook for 10 - 12 hours.

Cut against the grain once it finishes / cools and serve on rye bread w/ Bavarian style Kraut and some Russian dressing. Its pretty much perfection if you dig the Reuben sandwich.

However, corned beef > pastrami and most beefs.

I enjoy corned beef, along with pastrami and many other preparations of beef. But the idea that steak necessarily needs sauce is nuts; either you have a particularly insensitive palate or you've never had at least halfway good steak, or you're eating it well done.

We have the same brand here in the UK. But I prefer Princess

I find the prices hard to justify now as its almost £2.50 a can. For that I can get 500grms of fresh turkey mince which is less fat

Edit, my fellow black friends never knew that the stuff in the can was already cooked. They had a heart attack when they saw me eating it straight outta the can.

o shi, i just realized i have a tin a high quality canned corn beef, some eggs in the fridge, and some rice (i'll have too cook it though, wish i had some in the fridge) and some soy sauce. good I won't have to go to the store later, i'll stir fry me some corn beef fried rice for dinner!
