As a Pokemon, it has a stupid movepool. It's a physical attacker yet it doesn't gain any good fire attacks that utilizes its high attack stat (or hell, any physical attack). Even with people requesting Flare Blitz (strongest fire physical that has a recoil damage), Flareon doesn't have the speed or HP to utilize it well.
As a design, personally I think it's lazy. It's just a fatter Eevee with a fluffier mane.

I think there's something in its eyes that are the give-away to its type, and I realize this now. No other Pokemon, including Victini and Audino, have eyes that are that light of a shade of blue. The only other Pokemon with this shade of eyes is Yveltal. Let's put our brains together, guys! We can do this. I'm expecting a new type.
But Pokemon's eyes have never signaled their type.
Hmm, I'm thinking they are Modern type, but maybe not since they aren't green.

I agree, but this would be the first of its kind with this color of eyes, and it also happens to be the same color of a new version legendary. Meh. This speculation is driving me nuts.
(( I believe one of these to be the answer:
1. New type.
2. Normal type, evolved through contest/beauty/ribbons (making a return in Gen VI).

I'm going to assume the eye thing is a change in art style so some Gen Sextants are more easily identifiable. They could also pull a Mew route and have Xerneas be some sort of life-seeder, being a keystone in Poke-Europe's long-term evolutionary growth.

Unlikely since a new type will throw the type chart out of balance.
Dark and Steel were only add, since they meant to be in generation one and to stop Psychic type being broken.
It clearly a bug type, we will never get a normal eeveelution since Eevee is a normal type to start off with.
Won't happen since Eevee didn't evolve in generation 3 and 4 when contest was in the game
Furthermore ribbons have no effect on Pokémon so you can rule that out.

The scan where it shows all the Eevees drawn in a consistent style does make it look like it fits in better, for whatever that's worth.

Also the "swift stars" look pretty shitty if it is for Swift. Swift stars tend to be huge and "strong looking", the stars shown in the model definitely look like something you'd see for a shiny release.

If it is a shiny, it's a pretty lame one. I can barely see any differences. Par for the course for the eevee family I guess :/
Unless the Sugimori art is of the shiny, which would be weird...
