Corpse Party: Blood Drive |OT| Not the Red Cross You Were Expecting

How did the audio pass QA? Sheesh, it's awful. I'm loving the slow build, though. All the new characters are great so far.

Yeah, even the opening sounds pretty tinny, which is super obvious with the soundtrack CD to compare. I assume it was like this in the JP version too?

Should I buy the collectors? They have a couple at my local Best Buy. Have never played this type of game but videos make it look really interesting.

Would recommend scoping out the original game first to see if it's something that's up your alley.
That said, if it makes a favorable first impression and you know you're committed for the long haul, I would snap up one of the collector's editions of Blood Drive as they're liable not to last too long.

The original game on PSP is a bit better anyway IMHO, so if you're going to buy only one title in the series to try out, that's the one I'd recommend.

So I'm about to start to the first game (with the intent to play through all 3 in the next few weeks; I already even have my copy of Blood Drive). I only got a couple chapters in when I played it back when it first came out, so I'm restarting and I wanted to ask about something. I remember that there were a number of different endings to chapters, some of which unlocked extra stuff instead of just being bad endings. Is there a good guide I can use for that which will tell me when to save so I can get the other endings without really spoiling me about what I need to do? I want to see the endings, but I'd rather not get everything you do in the chapter spoiled in the process.

This should provide exactly what you're looking for.
If you're not looking for any gameplay pointers beyond how to access each of the Wrong Ends, just ignore all of the other sections.

That's excellent; thanks! Even from just glancing at the bad end section for chapter 1, that's definitely vaguer than the other few guides I saw while still telling me enough of what I need to know, such that I won't feel bad about checking it at the start of a chapter.

I'm hoping I can join you guys in talking about Blood Drive soon, but I feel like it might take a couple weeks to get there. I'm looking forward to reading through the thread afterwards, in any case.

Yeah, I'm not normally overly sensitive towards technical issues, but the loading, quiet audio and framedrops when using the torch are all pretty annoying, plus I wish the text was a little larger, although that's not really a major deal.

Still, I'm enjoying the story so far, partway into chapter 2 right now.

How easy is the platinum?

I'm assuming = Get all name tags + all true endings + a bit of dying = plat?

Yeah, gotta get every ending, every CG (I missed one from a certain death that I got a star for anyways because it was all one long encounter), beating a stage without turning on your flashlight, beating a stage without ever raising your darkening gauge, etc.

Tom wasn't lying when he said the story goes off the rails.

Deshou?! ;)

It's less horror, more supernatural-themed anime hero adventures. A very odd direction for the series to go, but it at least "wears it well."

There's a whole lotta story exposition that I wasn't quite expecting given the small sampling at E3. I'm all for getting more of these unique stories getting localized over time. The Vita's the perfect little platform for these adventures that put much more focus on the story than anything else.

I'm still holding out one of the localization companies goes deeper into spike chunsoft's catalog to localize 428 for the PS3 but that's a story for another day. ;3

Alright, seems to finally be picking up now at the end of chapter 3. Been a slow-burn before that, but now we're getting to that fucked up bleakness I've learned to love about this series.

Also yeah, the wrong ends are super underwhelming so far, though I've only gotten a few. I still get shudders thinking about some from the first game. There's just no comparison. Hope that changes.

I think the thing that makes some of the wrong ends less powerful is that
the overall feel of this game is like Wyrdwad said and thats its more supernatural hero stuff then horror, so less psychological and more shown since they have 3D models now.

So I just started playing the game. Geez, what's up with all the loading screens? They are both too many and too long. I'm at the horror school now and the loading screen from the options menu back to the game has you staring at a face for nearly 15 seconds.

That change in direction is turning me off some what. I like where the story is going but it just doesn't feel a scary as the last two.

For example Chapter 4 spoilers:
the dead bodies near the pool. Having people drown in the pool of their own will from succumbing to darkening is a hell of a lot scarier than being dragged in by some funky monster

Still loving this though

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
In Chapter 8 now towards the end
why do they all act like idiots.... Like someone is getting beaten up and they're just staring and they're being deceived so easily.

This series is at it's best when it forces you to use your imagination mixed with the audio.

Well, that's mainly an Ayumi-centric quality but I'll agree that the way the game sets up these dramatic set pieces with a half-dozen or more characters only for most of them to be window dressing or simply standing around with a blank expression doing nothing (even the antagonists) while two other people argue is very distracting.

For the most part I was able to ignore the latter issues as simply a conscious presentation choice but as for Ayumi being impulsive, over-trusting and dumb... well, that has been a consistent trait across the entire franchise since we saw our very first Sachiko Ever After charm ripped apart.

but man did it irritate me to the limit when
she finally got the book of shadows completely beat misuto at his plan, yet moments later loses to a simple punch after just before gutting herself and traveling different dimensions with her willpower. It's just like "seriously ayumi? like really?" I'd get if she lost to sachi or whatever the girl/thing was in the core of the nirvana but misuto after all of that build up.

Isn't the audio level stuff mainly due to needing to use headphones more so? There was a thread on gamefaqs where folks with a good headset not having issues at all. So I imagine it's more so the binaural audio.

its more annoying Aiko didn't do anything. She was just fucking staring while the book was taken away. So stupid.

That's okay... Satsuki's appetite stepped up to save the day.

I use good headphones but compared to past titles, the voices are much quieter than everything else. But I fixed it in options; lower sound effects 20 points and music 10 points and its already getting there.

The thing with Satsuki I was not expecting btw that was a legit surprise.
You didn't think I'd adopt her as my Corpse Party release week avatar if she up and died in Chapter 6 by falling down the stairs now, did you?

Incidentally, I love how consistently dismissive Misuto was of Satsuki. Made his surprise execution by her so much more rewarding.

heh
was expecting misuto to die sometime but not like that.

well she did tell Misuto she'd bite him if he did anything to Yuka lol

I just sorta wondered where he appetite came from most of the game, for awhile there I thought it was just some gag that corpse party had.

Beat the game last night and I don't know what in the world is wrong with this game, but this just kept happening and I don't know why. Granted this was only during the final chapter though
during the scene that takes place right after the final save point where Ayumi goes off by herself.
I can tolerate bad frame rates and long loading times to an extent, but this is absolutely atrocious. It happened at 4 or 5 times during this occasion. I honestly thought I wasn't going to be able to beat the game or my Vita was going to break

I got that during the
Sachi taking over yuka part of the story
and it scared the shit out of me, out of the many years I've had a Vita I've never seen that error ever.

Yeah, I make light of the whole situation saying it gave me the best jump scare out of the whole game, but it's certainly not the kind I ever want to see.

Man, sorry to hear that's still happening. I got that quite a few times while playing the Japanese retail release of the game, and made sure to report it to the devs -- and then never got it a single time while playing the English build. I believe it was encountered a handful of times by other QA testers, but each time it happened, QA reported it and the bug came back as resolved.

So I do think the problem was reduced in frequency, but apparently not fixed entirely. :(

We'll be sure to let the devs know it's still happening, though I don't think any of them know WHY it's happening, which means a fix isn't likely at the moment.

Sorry again for any trouble. :(

Really amazon? I want my GOTY FFS.

DanganRonpa: AE said "Preparing for Shipment" even two days after it arrived, so I hope its just amazon fucking up again. And I'll check mail each day asap.

Got DR 5 days after the release date and today is the fifth day. Amazon you better deliver. >_<

Edit: AAHHH!!! It now says its on its way and arriving Tuesday. So late but atleast its coming!

I then put the tracking # into fedex and it says Wednesday. So far away. I just assume Wednesday for worst case scenario, but its already in the same state so who knows.

After Chapter 1,
I have no remorse for Ayumi whatsoever. Yoshiki manned up and tried to save her, she wouldn't listen. Let her reap what she sows.

I got the platinum, here's my mini review:

So far this and Book of Shadows feel like an unnecessary addition to the Corpse Party: Blood Covered game. It feels like FFXIII-2 and LR:FFXIII all over again. If I had to compare stories, this felt LR:FFXIII in terms of structure but enjoyable as FFXIII-2. The story is, while not as hard to understand, feels like extended fanfiction with new characters who are like from fanfictions. It's a fun game, but the original Corpse Party is a league of it's own. This feels like an extended (and unfortunately, a not necessarily needed) follow-up.

+ Has a lot of content and it at least it's complete.
+ Great sounds
+ I love the LE
+- Story doesn't feel necessary, but it's serviceable. If you're really into the Corpse Party: Blood Covered game, you might enjoy it.
- Bad loading times and kinda buggy
- Game isn't exactly scary. The ghosts are too cute to be scary. The only scary thing in this game is the
face in the window and the face that appears on the TV. It looks like something from The Exorcist.
- Characters act like idiots a number of times.

At the end of the day, everything is fine and all is well. I was just livid at that moment and time due to the fact that it kept happening and I experienced an internet-based outage at the time so searching through my phone for answers as to what happened with my terrible connection was not the greatest feeling. At the end of the game I loved the game and the experience it gave, but man this game is just a mess on a technical level.

I got that one as well but I was fast forwarding. Same thing happened to me with Ultra Despair Girls: Danganronpa.
I guess I'm one of the few lucky ones that never experienced the buggy side of DRAE. Going a little off OT here but, my friend experienced some really bad stuff. Not only did he get that, but he was falling through the floor and stuff as well. I don't know what or how he was doing what he was doing it, but I received a lot of angry messages for a couple days regarding his experience

I'm watching the 2U playthrough in between the Book of Shadows chapters. It makes for a nice break after the sullenness of that game.

Some amazing moments:

-Satoshi lamenting over having no distinguishing character traits.
-Seiko barely dodging a bread monster from munching on her head, then immediately dying afterwards to unknown causes because Seiko.
-Mitsuki + tentacles.
-Kizami becoming Mannequin Man (and also becoming a complete flanderization of himself to the point of being annoying than scary, even to the cast).
-Wrong ends that lead to the same result as the right path but have like half an hour of unique dialogue.
-Yoshiki and Morishige cross-dressing, with some unintentional boy play thrown in as Mayu watches.
-Lots of callbacks to the wrong ends of the previous game, like the bisection wrong end in the first one.
-Sachiko nonchalantly saying "I'll kill you, you know" whenever she gets annoyed.
-Corpse Party-ception.
-Yoshiki writing a screenplay of his fantasy romance with Ayumi.
-Morishige slapping Sachiko across the face... AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT!
-Mayu showing her jealousy of Yoshiki and Morishige's supposed relationship by stabbing Yoshiki in a play.

And this is only two chapters in! I'm really surprised at how much effort the developers put into a game like that. Tons of dialogue, new CGs, new music, and lots of new character portraits as well. It's too bad it'll never come to the West.

Nope -- they've still only released the very first chapter, and last I heard, they were busy remaking it in Unity.

They released the first Chapter in 2013 and I believe that's it.

I heard they were not happy with it and were going to do it, but I don't recall where and don't see that anywhere trying to check.

They've already started doing exactly that, since only chapter 1 has been released so far.

Or are you talking about a localized version?
