Crash Launch in UK bigger than Horizon

They will use all this success to make more out of Crash again right?
Crash is huge again now, they won't let it die again right?
This must be lead to a real sequel, a real Crash Bandicoot 4 right?
They are not completely stupid right?
Right?

Right?
I think this makes it all but certain Crash will get a new game. However the reason why people saying Crash sales have a lot to do with nostalgia is that a new Crash game wouldn't have that going for it. It's one thing to buy an old game you loved to have it on your current system with some nice upgrades. That game is getting compared to its predecessor, not current games of this generation. A new game would have to fully stand on its own. That could still happen, but good sales of the remake doesn't say a lot about how likely that is. The best we can say is that good sales of a sequel are more likely than if the remake had flopped.

It's three (beloved) games for £30 in a pretty quiet spot for retail releases, how is it even a question if it was going to sell gangbusters?

Because a remaster of three mediocre games is outselling a fantastic new IP.

I don't like the message.

I really don't know why some people now think that Horizon somehow didn't sell well because Crash had bigger opening. Horizon had amazing first week for new Ip (before this week biggest first week of this year for game on single platform). Crash just had even more impressive opening week.

Ppl have a one or the other mentality that's pretty clear
It's not enough for both to succeed one has to fail and it's very sad

Not only did Horizon have a great opening week for a new IP, it has also shown great legs every week since in the PAL thread. It also reclaimed first place long after release for a week recently with the Days of Play discount promotion.

This, plus a lot of people just don't want to admit they were wrong. There was a sizable number of people claiming this collection would bomb because the games were never good and no one would want to play them in today's market.

Which is funny since the game it beat HZD was also suppose to bomb .
Don't see why people can't be happy it's a good time to be a gamer .
New IP doing good , remake of beloved game doing good .
It has been a great year for PS4 owners so far .

Indeed. PS4's had so many great releases so far this year that I haven't even played Horizon yet. The system seems to be hitting all genres with high quality content, people shouldn't be upset about them succeeding there.

Yes, and close to Zelda's total.

That's pretty impressive considering it's only been on sale for 2 days. I hope it maintains strong sales in the future. This is my favorite genre and I'm really hoping Crash helps make a statement here.

Both can exist. There is no "message" and you're being overly dramatic.

On top of that, you're in the minority with your opinion that they're mediocre.

(And considering you consistently defend Bungie's anti-player decisions with Destiny, it looks quite silly that you're against the "message" this sends.)

great for crash, hoping for ctr now. never played it but heard its great and since we aint never getting a new sonic racing.

sega really need to re-release the megadrive in uk, it would kick nintendo ass

This is not true at all at least not for me.

But it is cheaper and easier to remaster old games and often less risky. If it manages to rake in the same amount of money as a very succesfull new IP it increases the changes for more remasters.

Which in some cases will decrease the amount of new games we get,

I bought Crash and I hope the success means we will get Spyro but I'm a little wary of the direction the gaming industry is headed.

People say we are getting plenty of new ip's but when I look at this generation compared to the others I feel there has been a decline.

Do you need a list of new ips just this gen so far? Cuz Ubisoft alone have a very hefty amount

Remasters/remakes fill a void in a schedule, gives smaller teams jobs to do to feed their families, gives fans of those older games a chance to experience them up to today's standards they don't take away from anything

Glad to see the game is a success.

Crash is back! This feels so good to say after all those years of mediocrity! :D

I'll bet Activision is kicking themselves for not charging more for Crash than they did. I bet sales would have been just as strong if they charged $50 for it instead of only $40.

People need to let the salt go. This game being made, released and selling well isn't taking away from anything else.

Hopefully it makes other pubs/devs look at their AA back catalog and see what they can do with it.

The salt in this thread, LOL

This is debatable.
It's not even a debate. This is about 20 year old games. The trilogy as a whole is well received, and well revered to be a PS1 classic, and is consistently near the top of "best PS1 games of all times" lists (voting or non-voting), and also consistently tops PS1 game sales charts on PSN. It's what put ND on the map to begin with. Mediocre games don't do that.

You can personally not like the game, but acting like these games are considered mediocre and are factually that way is ridiculous. It's leftover rhetoric from the N64 vs PS1 console war days.

You say that, but just this year alone, we've had two new IPs that are in the top 5 best selling games of the year (For Honor and Horizon). We've had critical and audience successes in new IPs like Nioh, What Remains of Edith Finch. Nintendo have invested in Arms as a new IP, and we have high profile indie new IP like Cuphead, Rime, Little Nightmares. We also had Overwatch last year, essentially the biggest new IP since forever.

this thread shows me how much the other first partys have been lacking til this point lately that people want to argue two sony games against each other in this way.

The thing about nostalgia is that people actually like the things they're nostalgic about. You don't just develop strong nostalgia for things you hate just because it's old. If this was Gex 1-3 remastered, it wouldn't come close to this level of success. At some point, people need to give credit to the games themselves.

It's sad that this needs to be outright stated.

Predicted it would have a massive launch and got slated for it on here.

Crash Bandicoot is insanely popular in the UK and Europe, it's made a massive splash on social media for months. Speaking in my own little bubble, there's people who hardly even play games anymore who are rushing out to buy this thing because it's CRASH BANDICOOT.

wow this is insane.

As someone who doesn't follow Crash, what have they been doing with it the past several years? I don't think I've heard anything about it.

If it had this potential the whole time....dang

And yet Microsoft sits on Banjo-Kazooie and Conker. Just releasing one of those proper would have had me buy an Xbox One by now. In fact, unless they ever do put out a proper sequel to either, I'll likely never buy another Xbox console again. Their other exclusives don't interest me.

Really nothing worth talking about for Crash in the past 15 years imo.

No Crash games since PS1 were good nor did they sell well. So they just assumed Crash had lost his popularity instead of the truth which was simply that the new games were bad.
