credit skipping

Come on Ubisoft. How're you going to do this with Watch Dogs? We know you staff thousands of people on games. It's cool you want them recognized. Don't force me to watch the entire credit sequence when I beat the game. Add a credit option on the menu and call it a day.

Please stop doing this, game devs.

I remember in Sonic Adventure how you got an emblem for watching the credits through. Didn't even know about it. Would be a nice incentive added to other games.

For some reason I always leave the credits for movies and games on even if I'll look away to something else. I feel like I shouldn't skip them over even if I'm reading only a third of the names.

People spent years making the game you just finished. The least you could do is give them 15 fucking minutes.

People who actually contribute to the game, like programmers, artists, designers, and testers, absolutely deserve to be credited for their work. Phil in accounting, Doug in marketing, and Joe Bob the janitor probably don't.

I like the credits. It gives me time to clean up all the junk in my room that's accumulated since I started playing the game whilst enjoying the music.

you could always grab some food

go to the cleaners

get a hair cut

then come home in time for the last few minutes of the credits in an ubisoft game

They absolutely deserve credit. However, I don't go out on the street and yell at people that they saved money in tax dollars because I'm doing my job. Make it optional. I'm not walking away incase there is something to miss.

I've gotten into the habit of letting credits roll until they're done, thinking I might miss some sort of bonus trophy or cutscene that I can't re-watch or gain again.

I let it roll and I just do something else until it's done.

They spend years making movies but they don't lock the theater doors when the credits roll or block you from using the stop button on your bluray player.

Look, game designers think their games are movies, thus the film-like opening and closing credits. This isn't anything new, and as a supporter of the cinemafication of the industry, I'm ok with it.

Well, no one forces you to stare at the screen for the whole credits. Usually I get up for a stretch or something while credits roll If I can't skip them.

Edit: Having options sure would be nice though.

Not to be a dick but they should always be skippable. It's not like I'll recognize any of their names anyway. If credits are just a few minutes OK fine but I usually just walk away and come back anyhow, or pick up my phone.

I'll agree that more games need some cinematic-ass OPENING credits. Nothing beats a good title card, but so few games seize the chance. Metal Gear Rising is one that comes to mind as having an epic title card moment.

You're really complaining about people getting recognition? The ONLY instances I'm generally okay with some credit skipping/speed up option is for games where you can "beat" them multiple times to see the credit, like when you beat Adventure Mode in Smash Bros or beat the E4 in Pokemon. The first time through you should just deal with it

Did I complain about people getting recognition? You can skip on a blu-ray. Put an option to view them on the menu. You could also fast forward on VHS. Don't misconstrue my opinion, please.

It's worse in games with chapter select or encouraged to replay.

Let me do something during credits like Bayo 1 or Melee.

Give a fast forward button or something!

Damn aha I felt that way before about credits in movies and games, but then went to Japan. When Rorouni Kenshin finished and the credits started rolling we were the only gaijin to start talking, getting up, and leaving. Turned around and everyone else was in their seats waiting for the credits to finish.

also they ran again after i beat the secret level and after the cramp inducing run the first time of destroying the credits for 15 minutes i just let them play and hit my vita every few minutes to make sure it didn't go into sleep mode.

i think at the very least credits should be able to be fast forwarded through, if not skipped entirely.

I can't do it. Gotta see it through.

It's mostly a strong belief in credit and acknowledgement but hey, there might be something more at the end!

I also have a fear that I won't get that NG+ or whatever else if I skip through.

Credits should absolutely be skippable. There are so many people that contribute to our lives. Why don't manufacturers put credits on instruction manuals for TVs, cars, and computers? Who made the screen, processor, controls, ui, and everything else that made your game experience come to life?

The entertainment industry is extremely narcissistic. It's sad that games developers decided they should join the rest of the industry on that. I sort of understand actors getting credit because we make a human connection with the actor. But who cares about the back stage people we never see? Nobody else with background jobs in society get their name on a credit roll.

Tbh.

Game devs deserve their recognition. Perhaps fast forwarding is a good middle ground.

Tbh.

I just whip out the phone and browse the internet while credits roll, hoping there's a secret cutscene at the end.

I just browse my phone for a bit and post on GAF.

This.
Credits roll, time to pee, get some water, type up a little blurb while I add the game to by beaten list, etc.

I mean, even if the game won't let you skip them, you don't have to watch.

I really likes Tomb Raider's credits and how it had pictures of the devs. I'd like to see more of that of studios are willing. That, or game artwork or something relevant to the game itself. Transistor's credits are a good example.

Do I need to applaud too?

You can't force someone to watch, they will alt tab, change the channel, or do something else for a while. Make credits available from the start in the menu, and make them skippable. That way someone wants to pay homage to the 2,350 employees at 200 branches of Ubisoft, they can, but aren't required to do it right then and there.

Yeah I really don't see how having unskippable credits is "giving people recognition" when 95% of people are just going to dick around on their phone waiting for the credits to end anyway. Whether they're skippable or not most people aren't going to actually read them.

Most of the arguments here in the thread are:

(a) out of principle -- least you can do for dev's efforts
(b) it's not so bad -- do other things

Neither of which are sound reasons or strong contributions to the product. I'd say there's more utility/benefit from removing forced credits.

If the credits start and they are unskippable, I go and make a coffee or change the channel and watch TV until its over.

Say what you want about CAPCOM but I for one am fucking glad they allowed for skippable credits. Re-watching an entire cast after finishing a game multiple times can get very tedious. If you want people to appreciate your efforts put a separate option for those who wants to see it.

Ubisoft credits are like 20+minutes long. At some point it's kinda hard to sit through all of that so I don't blame anyone. It's not a requirement to do something interesting with them, or letting you speed them up like some games, but at least do something.

That said, I remember sitting there for the whole Mass Effect 1 credits. Several times. They were like 8-10 minutes long I think, but man, that experience + that fucking awesome song... I didn't care one bit.
