credit skipping

People spent years making the game you just finished. The least you could do is give them 15 fucking minutes.

Do you sit through the credits of films? I mean, okay, you kind of have to sit throught the end credits of most Mavel films, but you can fast-forward through them on dvd/blu-ray.

man you act like the creators gave birth to the OP or something
I've already admitted that I don't finish games. Do I owe it to the gamemakers to finish the game just so I can watch the credits?

Destiny has one of the worst Credit ending ever.
The song is so bad, and they make you listen to it.
You have to force quit unless you want to hear the awful music for 10mins.

But yeah, there is no way I am sitting through a credit scene unless A) Bonus scenes B) Unlocking New Game+ for save file

I usually enjoy letting the credits roll, a good way to finish off a good game. But only if it has good music, and it's not a Ubisoft game.
I could watch a whole TV show in the time it takes for the credits to roll in some games.

The least you could do is give them the $60 you gave them, which you gave them.

Truth. If the credits are fun or particularly interesting, I may give them a watch. But the way I gave credit to the developers and the publishers was buying their game. I don't owe them anything after that. It's the same thing with movies. If I bought the ticket/payed for the DVD/bluray/used my Netflix subscription someone has already received compensation and recognition for their work in the form of my dollars.

I let the credits roll. I just... may or may not be in the room when the are rolling. I may also be more interested in story snipets that sometimes play durring te credits.

I don't mind watching the credits if there only a few minutes but I agree Ubisoft goes overboard with how long they are. If they included something like what Platinum did with Vanquish I'd actually enjoy them.

Ubisoft is an ass for not allowing people to skip credits. I don't even understand it since you have to wait for the post-credits scene. Just allow people to skip.

I remember when I was young I'd always follow the credit runs on the NES and SNES games I had and would try to speak all the Japanese names aloud as then scrolled up the screen (I could never keep up).

Anyway, these days it shouldn't take that much effort to make your credit sequence not horrible. Small recap CSes or epilogue CSes in the background, concept art, something. Even some badass ending tune is welcome (hi JPRGs!). Still, there should be an option to skip and 21 minutes is goddamn freaking ridiculous. I won't even skip on my first time, but I admit that most people care about life far more than I do.

Agreed OP, you should be able to skip or at least fast forward through all of them.

That's what the
fucking
money is for!

I always watch the credits. I like to read the names of the game for some reason. But the Assassins Creed games are enormous!

Yes, they should be skippable.

I used to have a policy to never ever skip credits in case there is a story sequence at the end but after sitting through a few too many 25 minute long credits and being almost being bored to tears my policy is now to skip that shit.

Only company thats allowed to do this is Nintendo. Everyone else has lame movie style scrolling credits with lame music.

Long credits are okay I guess.

But when on a portable system, please make it quick. Once I spent my entire trip to the office watching Tearaway credits. I was pissed off.

And I gave them $60 fucking bucks for their work. Which all together with everyone else, paid their salary.

Also, most the people didn't do jack shit on the game. Just saying.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 let you skip credits, Dark Souls 2 doesn't, so clearly you should be able to skip credits if you'd like.

Unskippable credits be messing up speedrunners In-Game Time for their records too.

Why do I care who the upper management is who never worked on the game, likewise all the thanks for the friends and pets and bob the janitor.

Should I have to read credits when I eat a meal at a restaurant of all the people who grew the food, all the people who transported it to the wholesaler, all the staff at the wholesaler, the delivery driver, the restaurant manager, the chefs and the waiter?

I have no problem with the guys who make the game getting credited for it but don't force me to sit and watch it.

Lets start making credit rolls shorter by cutting some unnecessary categories. First up, Production Babies.

Congratulations on the sex, nerds.

Localisation teams when I've played the whole game in the original language.
International departments of the publisher who only marketed or distributed the game and didn't deal with the development in anyway.

I don't really get the whole defense of unskippable credits. "Do something else" means I'm not watching it anyway so why shouldn't I be able to skip or fast forward them?

The only people of interest to me are the actors, art designers, music composers and producers everyone else wouldn't be recognizable unless you are their friends or family. I'm not sitting here wondering, "hey John Smith is a game tester! I wonder if it's the same John Smith that lives down the street from me". I'm not watching after the first 1-3 mins so just give me the option to skip or fast forward it and if you want the credits to run it's entirety then give an achievement or something for it.

I get that people need to get credited for their work. I get that so many people touch these games that they need to be long, but I don't get why in 2014 we don't have the option to skip and fast forward credits in some games. Especially in games where you can go back and play them in a, "newgame+" or just exploration/finish up side quests kind of game. It's just backwards.

You know what's worse than unskippable credits?

Unskippable credits followed by an unskippable list of fucking Kickstarter backers. Seriously, fuck you if you put this in your game.

I love how Destiny doesn't force you to watch the credits, but if you choose to watch them there's no way to back out......

Games need to do what Hollywood does and have strict rules over who gets a credit so that they can limit the length of these damn things. People who built the game? Yes. People who localised it? If you're playing a localised version, yes. People in accounts, HR and the PR team? LOL fuck no.

Of course, Hollywood is heavily unionised and game devs are never going to let that happen.

I like some of the ideas that people haven't thought through, like "Don't let people skip them, just let them fast forward". I'm not going to read them whatever speed it runs at, I just get impatient.

You think I should sit through them once as some sort of courtesy. What difference does it make? They don't see me acknowledging their work. They are just a name on a screen to me unless they are one of the handful of big names I know (Kojima, for example), in which case I already know about their involvement before I even buy it.

There's no good reason to sit through them unless developers put some effort into improving a scrolling screen of text. Even in Rush Hour films you don't look at the text, you look at the outtakes.

That's still not a good reason to look at the credits themselves. Because there isn't one.

Already gave them my money. The least they could do is take advantage of their medium and put the credits in an easily browsable menu rather than doing it movie-style.

Hatsune Miku project Diva gave me credits I could shoot. That's pretty fun, I wanted to shoot them all! Why not have an interactive credit segment in every game? Hell, I remember Smash Bros having a spaceship shooting credit. Normal credits are so... boring?

I do find it odd how videogames rely on being interactive then the credits are a sit here and do nothing for several minutes. Also you can see who made the game* if you can beat it even the director...(I know it is hard to credit voice actors if there are spoilers etc hence why these things are at the end)

That makes Super Smash Bros great credits. I guess Super Mario Galaxy 2 as well (you can even die during them).

*-Or in the case of 80s Japan see a load of nicknames because if you put your real name down you'll be headhunted and/or kidnapped.

I was going to mention post credit teases were added to movies for that reason. Yet still loads of people leave.

Yeah I watch the credits out of principle and respect for the creators, but to be honest I don't read all of it, and don't go watch them when it is optional. I like it better when they're interactive, but then I would focus on the interaction and not the credits, it's just "more game".
I think that games should embrace their interactive nature to offer better integration of the credits. For example since gamers like to collect useless things, make them collect items with the creators names attached to it. Still better than collecting useless flags in an Assassin's Creed, and people would actually remember the names ("Hey I can't find the Animator 3 : John Smith package, any idea where it is ?").

I really find it funny regarding those of you who say we owe it to the devs to read their names.

I already paid 50 or 60 dollars to purchase the product... I don't give a rat's ass about their names. Why should I be forced to watch that crap when I paid full money for their game??

I finished Rayman Legends yesterday and I was thinking about this. If only they showed the credits in a more creative way, maybe even during the final music level. Or at least at a faster pace. 16 minutes of scrolling names are a lot.

Because in most games nowadays, it doesnt save until after the credits. Turning the console or PC off before that fucks up your progress.

The you can do something else. Read a book, go online, watch TV, or play another game system. I really don't see the issue.

I always like to watch the credits (the first time) just to sit back and revel in my victory (even though it usually isn't much of a victory these days). I hate Ubisoft credits though. Some other too. A lot could be done by making the credits smaller and having more columns run simultaneously. No one's looking at every name and sending a thank you letter. As long as your employee can load up the credits for their friends, point, and go "hey that's me!" you're covered.
