credit skipping

I think it would be cool if you could fast forward, stop and rewind credits. But skipping should be mandatory feature.

I just got to the Game and Wario credits and I feel like this is the new way all credits need to be done. I never knew Iwata liked peas!

I like watching the credits, but giving you an option to skip them wouldn't be an unreasonable request. Most games do this if you've already cleared a game once though.

Ubi credits are a fucking scourge.

and this is coming from someone who sits through credits regularly and has no problem with it in general.

When I was a kid credits were like the final reward. Watching the credits to Super Mario World and a Link to the Past was something I never got tired of and I'd beat the final boss constantly to rewatch them. It's so sad that the art of credits has gone down hill over the years.

So those people defending unskippable credits, do you just sit there and read every name and title?

People spent years making the game you just finished. The least you could do is give them 15 fucking minutes.

I just spent hours enjoying their game and spent $60 for it. I think that counts for a lot more than reading their name on a list of a couple hundred others.

Besides, what's the point making credits unskippable when people who don't care about credits aren't going to watch them in the first place? Switch to cable, leave the room, pick up your phone or turn to your computer. That's what people do when the credits roll and you can't skip them. It doesn't magically make those people who don't care stop and read them. It just annoys the consumer.

What do they even get out of making credits unskippable? Glad you enjoyed our game and thanks for the monetary support, and we know you'd like to continue enjoying the game but we don't care about that, here's a wall of text that will scroll slowly down your screen for the next 20 minutes while you curse that we're forcing this to happen.

All I need is option to scroll credits up and down. Sometimes they rolls too much fast (or slow). If I remember correct, this option was in L.A.Noire and that was really useful

It does annoy me a bit in Telltale games because it will be 2-3 hours of gameplay, 10 minutes of credit. I think games should come with a fast forward option if not a skip option. I already gave money to them, so I do not care who made it. I will give you job security by recommending the game you made.
In the entertainment industry, having a name attached to a work is generally bad because you end up with Michael Bay and M. Night Shyamalan. Only in rare cases do you have a positive like Miyamoto.

Smash Bros 64 does this.

I always watch the ending credits though. I read names out loud in crazy accents. Its always funny when it gets to the localization team.

Add a nice song and I don't really mind. For example, DaS2's credits with that song is beautiful. I stayed because the song was great and wanted to hear it. Only time it plays AFAIK. I like to wait and see if there is something special at the end.

I liked how Super Mario 3d World did its credits with the big list of names (it was also quite short).

Of course Smash bros is a prime example!

Why is no one mentioning the Katamari games? Me and My Katamari and Beautiful Katamari had my favourite credit sequences ever!

Also Rhythm Heaven Fever had that sweet game with the dude who jumps/rolls.

I think it's just up to the devs to be creative.

I use credits to sit back and reflect on the great game I just played. If you skip something like Mass Effect 1's credits, you're a monster.

I've gotten into the habit of letting credits roll until they're done, thinking I might miss some sort of bonus trophy or cutscene that I can't re-watch or gain again.

I let it roll and I just do something else until it's done.

I'm the same way. I get that the people who made the game deserve credit, but my attention span is way too short to just sit there and read names for more than 2-3 minutes.

Oh, fuck. Was it Melee or Smash 64 that had that game where you could shoot the credits? I completely forgot about that until now. Talk about nostalgia. I probably watched those credits more than any other in history because I was just trying to shoot everyone. Every game should do that.

In 64 you target them and then more info appears on a box; in Melee you can shoot them; in Brawl, real credits only appear after finishing SSE, in the "fake" credits you could also shoot.

they already took my money, and If I'm genuinely interested in finding out who did what, I'll look it up online and go to their pages to directly thank them, if possible.

Look, game designers think their games are movies, thus the film-like opening and closing credits. This isn't anything new, and as a supporter of the cinemafication of the industry, I'm ok with it.

Hate to say it, but I disagree. the more that games take from movies, the less worthwhile and harder to rationalize they become. we're paying upwards of fifteen dollars (or equivelent) to see a movie ONCE; why should it be okay to pay 60 dollars for a game then?

Not to be a dick but they should always be skippable. It's not like I'll recognize any of their names anyway. If credits are just a few minutes OK fine but I usually just walk away and come back anyhow, or pick up my phone.

If they're generic scrolling credits I agree; they should be skippable. But if they have some form of interaction to them, then they shouldn't be.

I'll agree that more games need some cinematic-ass OPENING credits. Nothing beats a good title card, but so few games seize the chance. Metal Gear Rising is one that comes to mind as having an epic title card moment.

Also, spoilers for double dragon neon... But THIS is how you stop someone from skipping the credits.

It's got everything you could ask for, catchy music, not too long, some interaction
(pressing buttons makes skullmageddon do poses, moving the analogue stick moves him)
and you've got a few funny credits for people so you actually read some of the text eg the first person listed is credited as "Tyrinncal overlord"

This is pretty fantastic.

Best credits ever (Bayonetta)
(ok, there is one part before, an interactive one!)

The Wonderful 101 is amazing too

Platinum does credits right, same way with just about any part of their games. They're not just panners for a script; they're part of of the game itself.

Although the Bayonetta credits were pretty iffy.

Localisation teams when I've played the whole game in the original language.
International departments of the publisher who only marketed or distributed the game and didn't deal with the development in anyway.

Yeah, after our brief glimpses into the Treehouse localization team the past few months, I'm totally okay withhaving them get credit for a game just as much as the people that make it.

I like credits , it lets me reflect on the game I finished.

Good point, it's usually a nice time to sit back and digest everything the game has offered you.

I agree with the sentiment that more games need title cards. I know it sounds corny, but nothing gets me hyped for a game like a good title card. It's also an awesome way to recognize the people who contributed most to the game. You put their names to a cool song and something awesome going on in the background...chills.

Hell, I hated Crysis 3, but I'm tempted to go replay the opening for the awesome title card.

Edit: also, TLoU had a killer title card. Totally forgot about that one.

I don't see what's so special about title cards personally. I think the header at the start menu is already enough to get you into the game, but that's just me.
