Crossbreed Pokemon Variation Fanart

The Adder

Some of you may have been aware of the Pokemon variation fanart thing that's been happening for a few weeks. Well, someone took the idea to a new level:

Variations based on crossbreeding Pokemon. Honestly, this is something I was wishing for in game since breeding became a thing back in 2000.

I wouldn't want this, I feel like it'd take away from a Pokemon's individuality and would just be too complex.

Wouldn't mind there being a few select Pokemon where breeding them together produces a slightly unique offspring, though.

Since they've moved to 3D, could definitely be done with some procedural generation tricks. I think it would be pretty awesome, the number of combinations isn't gigantic due to egg groups anyways.

I think it'd be pretty cool if baby pokemon took some attribute from the parent (only one generation deep of course), but I think it'd be far more likely to have it be some color variation. So the father would pass down some of their color palette.

Shinies would be more about the cool sparkly effect after that, though.

If you mean in appearance, ignore this post but, there are some things baby Pokémon take from their parents. They're always the same species as the mother and most of the time keep her ability. From the father they inherit any compatible move too.

I love the art. There's some really interesting and unique takes on Pokemon design floating around since this got popular. As for it actually being implemented in a game... I'm not sure. It sounds super complex and I like each Pokemon having its own distinct identity.

I love this idea because it makes sense; look at the variety of dogs and cats today, and those are way more similar to each other than many potential Pokemon breeding combinations.

Also, Potato for life.

As a person who spent too much time riding circles around Lumiose city, yeah, I know haha. I'm talking appearance when cross species.

It'd be interesting if it changed the mons typing, but not their stats. Like, imagine if we could say... Breed a Steel / Fighting Metagross or something. That'd be neat competitively, it'd make Metagross resist those annoying Sucker Punches!

Of course thats just a random example off the top of my head. This could make things more complicated, but I feel like this is a cool fan idea with interesting competitive implications. Plus, it'd make a bunch of mons look really cool =D

I love that art. Is there more? Although, the first one has an obvious flaw in that there is no cross with Turtwig, the greatest starting Pokemon.

If it changed anything it'd be too complex and many, many people would hate it. Not to mention overpowered combinations that'd make the rest obsolete.

Something like this would need to be 100% visual, and simply a way to make each Pokemon more unique.

For a moment I thought you're going to link that fusion site trash, thank god it isn't. isn't that some nice fanart made by one of the designers in GF?

I'd love to play Pokemon with this sort of mechanic. Maybe as post-elite 4 content. Maybe you can fight against the Champion after you beat them the first time and they have one of those new breeds.

See, people joke about Digimon being the inferior product, but it did this years ago and yeah it's awesome!

Not here to start a whose better than who thread, love both series; just wanted to point out that it's been done and totally works! Would be an interesting thing to see Pokemon try as well.
