CrowbCat: Nintendo Switch Painful Launch

It's a bit ridiculous to take all this as proof as there is zero context to how these people have been using the system. I mean, I don't doubt there are legit problems but nothing is preventing me from dropping the Switch from five stories high and then making a Youtube story telling everyone what a disgrace it is that Nintendo ships a product this broken. People do alot of things for clicks. What CrowbCat does, is remove things even further from context without any kind of factchecking.
Did you watch the whole thing? There are multiple videos with the exact same issue, it's a bit tin foil hatted to think all these people wanted to put Nintendo in a bad light.

I'm very happy I haven't had any problems.
Been very careful taking it out of the dock tho, not a fan of scratches.

It isnt the first time a console hasn't been properly tested so I tell people to hold of a few months before taking the plunge.

Except that is the entire point of the video. He does this for every launch. His PS4 video made it seem like every PS4 was beyond defective. It's a joke, he does this for every launch to make them seem like overly defective junk.

I don't think Nintendo won't solve the industrial design problems (dock damaging the Switch's screen, Joy-Con straps getting stuck when putting them in the wrong side) until they release a revision, so that's like 2-3 years from now. So the solution is being careful using your system and having in consideration these design flaws. At least that will be my choice.

The moral of the story is dont take any CrowbCat videos seriously :)

I saw almost every Crowbcat video and in every video he makes there's a bit of true.
He's not inventing anything here. He is only collecting facts.
That these failures have not happened to you yet is luck. In my case I will not take that $350 risk.

I went through two DS lites before I got one without dead pixels. The third one had a cracked hinge. Two PS3 systems have died on me. These things happen, and you always take that risk when you're buying a hardware product, no matter who makes it.
Still, pretty painful video to watch! Hope all those people managed to get in touch with Nintendo for replacement or repairs.

That dock take apart feels like it's going to be referred to and remembered for a long time, it's shocking how cheap and tacky it is considering the price of the standalone unit.

You can't put the straps on the "wrong" Joycon, they're identical and interchangable. BUT you have to put them on the right way, by lining up the +/-.

But isn't that what people are doing and they are getting stuck? You are not making any sense.

it's just a hdmi out and a power in in fact. Nothing surprising, nintendo themselves specified this.

The stupidness comes from the price, which is clearly a scam. No one should pay this price for a piece of plastic.

No. They are not design decent IMO. The 3DS left scratches on the upper screen with the framework of the bottom screen when closed.

The 3DS had dead pixels, too.

I had a stuck green pixel on mine, though I couldn't have it replaced by Nintendo. This explain me not being surprised at the whole Switch dead pixel thing.

Thankfully I got a perfect Switch this time around, so crossing fingers!

It's not about wanting to put Nintendo in a bad light. It's that these problems are not necessarily representative for the actual Switch launch.

1) as my previous point: we do not know the history of how they treated their Switch. It could be like that out of the box, they could've smashed it on concrete for all we know.

2) Three people with the same issue is not necessarily representative for the entire Switch launch stock. Those who are happy with their Switch are playing games on it instead of making Youtube videos.

And I get what CrowbCat is doing. He's taking the piss out of it but it seems like way too many people are using it at face value.

what a world we live in

how people put up with this I have no idea

Things will really heat up when some main stream media start to report this. And they will, because is the kind of news people click.

ahahahaha, havent experienced anything with my switch unit but yeah tons of issues for sure. Dock is piece of crap.

at 2:00 is a message: Earthbound 2 coming to switch(Not mother 3)

Damn, I watched this an hour ago and it had 1.7 million views, now it's already nearing 2.5 million. Nintendo should probably jump out ahead of this.

Who is this dude and is there a reason I should be taking him seriously? It all seems hyperbolic self inflicted damage to me (though Im not sure where the software crashes are coming from).

If he had to force the joycons on the wrong way around surely he knew something was up? Seems like click bait /shrug

How are dead pixels normal? The fk outta here if i got that on my unit, I'm returning and never purchasing again. My unit is shared or else I probably would just off that statement alone

This video cant top his Battleborn, CSGO or GTA Mario Odyssey ones but damn this is sad to see.

Also wow we have gaf members going defense force over Crowbcat videos now huh? Ive seen plenty of people struggle with the joycon straps.

All i know is that im glad i decided on BoTW for Wii U.

I sure hope so. Or it's just fuel for the "haha Switch is garbage, TOLD YOU" demographic

A lot of that must be a horrible defect. Mine definitely doesn't have any fucking weird noise and graphics and card-reading problems.

WiiU saved me a lot of headaches it seems. Based WiiU :)

Can't say I didn't warn those early adopters. Nintendo better ambassador the crap out of this.

The more I think about it, the more absurd the location of the charging port is considering that the thing has a stand. I glossed over it before but now it's like, are you serious

I also put those sliding things on the wrong way the first time, was a shit show to fix.

This video made me order a screen protector though.

Yeah, I am staying far away from this pile of junk. Nintendo stays dead to me.
I guess you have to stay away from Xbox One and PS4 because he did best identical videos for them?

He is one of the most entertaining gaming YouTube accounts but when people take them seriously I am just baffled because he doesn't make them to be taken seriously. Did people swear off PS4 and call Sony dead to them when he did that video too? I assume GAF hyperbole had a similar sort of over reaction then.

Thats fucking atrocious. Where does £279 go again?

to the actual handheld that runs the shit? I mean obviously it doesn't cost 300€ to make and 60€ for the dock is a bit too much, but that was never the place where the hardware was.

On a sidenote, i wish people would stop taking crowbats videos at face value, the things he always shows are blown out of proportions and it's annoying when some people cite his videos as proof of something.

True, but the build quality of that is pretty terrible too

The genius of buying consoles at launch.

People aren't idiots for buying consoles at launch. They have disposable income and want to play games on that said console at launch, like me. My switch doesn't have any scratches and it's fine. I have a screen protector coming in the mail. It's as simple as that.

Those issues were not design flaws, and the Switch video has far more issue's then the others. X1 issue was only related to blueray drive. PS4 had a range but still not as numerous.

That cheap plastic dock is damning. $60 for that plastic box? Here look, defend this:

I'd argue the straps (allowing them to be put on backwards on then getting stuck) and the dock (scratching the screen) are the only really problematic hardware issues, since those are symptoms of either poor design or cost cutting in the wrong places.

The rest, well every hardware has a failure rate derived for a myriad of problems. It is what it is. Software design choices like not allowing saved data transferring are more worrying IMO.

Last I checked the PS4 was at least not a flimsy shell of plastic with a tiny pcb in it. Oh, and I can't scratch my tv screen by plugging in my ps4. Oh and lastly, I can sit on my couch without worrying about the PS4 controllers unsyncing.

The crashes are expected for launch software. The failure of the switch is hardware and engineering, and there is no defense for that.

There's a weird phenomenon I've seen in this thread and the many like it popping up across the internet. One side voices their frustration with NIntendo, arguing the company needs to be held accountable for these potential design flaws, oversight, mismanagement, poor quality control, or something of that ilk. The other side reports no issues and are seemingly taken to task for being excusatory or complicit in some malicious scheme by Nintendo to dupe consumers.

There's certainly merit in advocating for Nintendo to take a stand and respond to what issues have popped up, but given the lack of widespread reporting, even in the enthusiast press, these very problems seem like normal (unacceptable) issues that plague any modern console launch.

Can't we have the co-existing thoughts that among the millions of Switches available at launch, there are some which don't function properly and that we need to make Nintendo aware of these issues and report how they respond to them, while *also* allowing those who have a functioning Switch to enjoy their console and have fun?

Going by that logic, that those failures have happened to those people is bad luck. Show me some statistical evidence that anything from the video is widespread and it might make sense.
There is no "$350 risk" btw. The product is under warranty and can also be returned to the shop
