CRT obsession in full gear - let's talk about CRTs!

I remember playing all Xbox 360 gen on my 32' standard def Sony trinitron flatscreen. It had these speakers that curved toward you on the side. Anyway, I would go into the 360 settings and force widescreen mode (had component connection). It didn't make games HD or anything, but games did look a lot sharper. Cool times.

Totally yes. I'm actually reading your post and typing on it right now lol
Wait, I thought you are using small SD CRT TV, but there's no way you would read small fonts on it. After 2'nd look I have realized you are using CRT monitor😀, and now it makes sense why you have perfect picture quality. On my CRT TV I have to convert VGA/HDMI into S-Video / euro, and I cant use VGA input.

Ended up doing VGA to USB-C into my RTX 2070

I'm very pleased with the result tbh. I guess this sorta renders all my retro crap irrelevant now - which is a weird feeling.
Miodern games can look so good on a CRT monitor. If the picture is a little too blurry injecting some sharpening with Reshade works very well.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I finally picked up a CRT after debating it with myself for years. Got a Compaq P900 cheap off of eBay. It's a little beat up and has some weird yellowing going on in the bottom right of the screen that shows up against white backgrounds.

Still, it runs fine and holy shit, I forgot just how great the response is on these things. I have high refresh LCDs and OLEDs, but it just *feels* different.

I've only just messed around with it for a few hours, but I just love how games look on this thing. It can do 1920 x 1440 @ 75hz, but I've been running it in 1024 x 768 @ 120hz and goddamn it feels smooth. Tried out a modern game (Doom Eternal) and it was a dream to play.

I feel like I'm now going to fall down a rabbit hole of trying to stockpile CRT monitors. I'm also tempted to pick up a TV for my old PS2 and Dreamcast that have been lying around. I wonder if the SNES mini would look good on it, too?

Try emulation on your P900 before you go down the PVM rabbit hole lol. You might realize it's all you need.

Welcome to the club though. I absolutely adore mine.

I think this video may have been posted somewhere on gaf before, but not in this thread.
I always thought it was neat.

I picked up a small 14" consumer set off ebay a few months ago. Cost me about £40 including shipping...which considering how prices have been lately means it was a fuckin' steal. I had it hooked up to my PC via a daisy chain of adapters that ended in beautiful RGB SCART. The other day I was on my way to the shop when I saw this beauty poking out of a pile of trash and bags of bricks and plasterboard (there's a spot where people regularly flytip 2 minutes outside my front door). Cleaned her up a bit, needs a recap as the geometry and convergence is a little iffy I think but the tube itself seems to be in great shape, nice and vibrant and sharp. If I had to guess it's relatively low mileage, a bedroom set perhaps. Doesn't even smell like the inside of C.G.B. Spender's lungs! Still need to get her working with my PC, my old set let me manually select RGB, this one doesn't so I need to find a way of supplying the voltage to the switching pins, might mod the TV itself so it's never a problem again.

I had a Sony Super Trinitron Wide 32'" (or 35" I don't remember) and it took up half the room... I don't miss it at all. :ROFLMAO:
It took three people to take it away.
