Crysis 3 PC Performance Thread

No, your cpu just sucks.

and randomly cranking up settings with specs like that, expecting 60fps and then calling it poorly optimized when it doesn't hit it is silly.

The FX 6100 isn't that bad for Crysis 3 as it's well optimised for multithreaded gaming

That's exactly average, beaten by a CPU I had 3 upgrades ago. However the point still stands, you don't crank this game up and expect stellar performance, like he did. Plus TXAA is a no-go, SMAA is the way to go.

Man, TXAA looks amazing for the performance cost. Almost no jagglies, especially in comparison to MSAA 4X. The "blur" is very slight and I'd take it over all the aliasing still present at 4X MSAA. In a perfect world I'd have two titans and be running 8X MSAA and downsampling from some absurd resolution though.

The grass in particular looks so much better, it's rather annoying in the non TXAA AA settings.

But isn't txaa nvidias?
and smaa is amd???

or am i wrong?

i cant tell the difference with chromatic aberration on or off, what are you guys seeing

Really? I feel like it's a hammer blow to the face. Some scenes it's not too bad but in others it just screams at you.

TXAA is an Nvidia proprietary, yes.

SMAA is an independently developed ( Guy from Crytek I believe ) PPAA that is highly regarded, nothing to do with AMD. ( You might be thinking of MLAA )

im on the boat but i'll post a shot soon, if its visible someone point it out cuz i cant see shit

god damn this game is pretty

A single performance bug on one level does not constitute an entire game that isn't optimized though.

Sure, but it is in both main action bubbles of first level and a lot of players use first level of a game to configure graphics options. What if someone goes to update his computer and then find the same performance.

If you only blindly test on the first level, don't ask around or anything and upgrade based on that short level, then that person is an idiot.

I've only played first level, do you know there aren't other bugs in the rest of the game?. How many people think their computer is not enough for crysis 3? A game very optimized like that doesn't deserves this kind of bugs that hide the overall good work.

Amd 6100
Gtx 680

Max Txaa , very high settings
Unplayable

Medium Txaa, very high exept texture resolution (high)
Almost playable

Seriously, this game is sick....and poorly optimized

Stop using TXAA, it's very demanding.

I don't like the way it looks as well, but that's just for me personally.

Lots of people have completed the game by now, it's not a 60 hour game. The main bulk of reports come from the first level. If someone buys a game, sees the first level is a bit choppy and then never return, then I have no sympathy for these people. It's an issue in the first level, not throughout the entire game and thus not the end of the world. Annoying? Yes. End of the world or detrimental to the game experience? No.

And it still doesn't mean the game is unoptimized.

That bug is not a joke. Exists, is a performance bug, affects everyone and you can be sure crytek is working on it.

Uh. No, I said the claim Crysis 3 looks basically the same as Crysis 2 is a joke. I get that the first level has problems with the rope animations causing FPS dips or whatever.

I never said crysis 3 is unoptimized, right? I said is very optimized, that's why this bug is anyoning. Because some people can think incorrectly about the game.

Nothing in videogames is the end of the world. Never.

A performance bug is a detrimental to the game experience. Always. You can only shift your bar.

Anyone knows what is causing this strange shadow noise pattern?

I cant find a command to fix it. Fortunately its not that common on geometry, but it still appears from time to time.

It seems SSAO noise. Try r_SSAO 0 and r_SSDO 2 in console. If not, try rising e_ShadowsResScale value.

Tried, tried and tried :) Oh well, its mostly this level bug, so its not big deal.

Btw Maldo You should also write on Your blog about bug with precanned scripts for physics, like here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uW0d7D0TJo&feature=player_detailpage#t=11s
Wind from chopper normally affects smoke particles, but after first death it doesnt, same happened in Total Biscuit video here
First level load, wind is there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RIoUelM-4pk#t=344s
Second launch, after death, its not there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RIoUelM-4pk#t=668s

I had same bug after death with ripples on water here: http://i7.minus.com/ibi7seTwTqOMwz.png

I have the HD7770 as well, similar specs.

Try this autoexec.cfg

Love to know if it helped.

This didn't really boost my performance at all compared to just having everything set to High and AA on SMAA Low.

Also, for some reason, this game is all of a sudden causing my GPU to get to the mid-70s and it never did this before. What should I adjust in my clocking settings to fix this?

EDIT: Something is very wrong. I'm getting temperatures in the 70s in the menu now. This wasn't happening before. What's happening? Here are my Afterburner settings:

Any way to get the game to run at any framerate? Now it just locks to 30 or 60 depending on what's happening. It's really fucking annoying.

I've tried turning off Vsync, and enabling tripple buffering in the driver. Nada. HELP!

The Geforce Experience program is nice. Used it on my rig:

i5 2500k @4.2ghz
GTX 680 2GB
8GB Ram

The first mission being the most demanding ran at mostly 60fps with drops into the mid 40's at worst. From then on its been a near constant 60fps. I disabled VSYNC in game and am using DRDOverrider.

Everything is Very High except for object and shadows which are both on medium. AA is set to SMAA x1.

Damn, Just make sure you remove the autoexec.cfg file and change default "System Spec" to medium or high... then go back to your normal tweaks.

I've been trying to get a nice, solid 60fps out of my system, and I think I've found the sweet spot.

Res: 1920 x 1200, Fullscreen
AA: SMAA Medium
Textures: Very High
Vsync ON

Game Effects: Very High
Object: Medium
Particles: Medium
Post Processing: High
Shading: High
Shadows: Medium
Water: Low
AF: 16x
Motion Blur: Medium
Lens Flares ON

That netted me (with Vsync on unfortunately, I didn't think to switch it off before benchmarking) an average framerate of 59fps, with the only noticeable dips being in a single area, caused by water rippling I think. Period of play was around 11mins, in the second level of the game where
you've just walked into the big open dome area with the gun tower, right up until you meet up with Psycho again in a rusty old building
. Still looked fantastic too.

I tried the Nvidia Experience too. It basically cranked almost every setting up to Very High, and I was getting an average framerate of 49fps, a minimum of 30 and a max of around 80.

My spec:

• Core i7 3820 3.60ghz
• 16GB DDR3 2133mhz RAM
• Nvidia GTX680 2GB
• Game installed on a WD 2TB 7200RPM Black Edition HDD

Is anybody else getting a weird clear halo/double image around their gun? It is extremely annoying and distracting.

I think it's the effect of looking out of your visor (chromatic abberation)? Personally I like how organic it makes everything look. Reality isn't always clean and sharp, especially not Hollywood Blockbuster cinematic reality.

Has anyone experienced a crash on the first level with a 570?

My brother can't get past the section where you and Psycho get into the "base" of the first level. As soon as you leave the boat and run up the stairs to get inside, the game freezes when he opens the door.

We've tried the latest two drivers, including 314, but to no avail. Multiplayer is fine, btw.

The system is perfectly working and solid:

i3 3220
MSI GTX 570 TFIII
Corsair XMS3 2x4GB
Seasonic M12-II 620W.

Everything at stock.

I get the same bug as maldo and it is pretty annoying. It does not just happen during the first scene though.. it also happens during cinmetics at other parts of the game.

I wonder what is causing it!

Works well on a 2600k/680. 1080p every setting at High, FXAA and Textures at Very High runs at mostly 60fps with small drops when something big happens. I can play at 30fps locked if I set everything to Very High.

This game is very impressive visually, unreal with every setting maxed out. Also doesn't seem to suffer from the 24/50hz bug at all for me running through receiver via HDMI. This is truly the start of next gen, imo.

Geforce Experience is pretty awesome, glad I checked it out after reading the thread.

So what does the object setting actually adjust? Seems like a lot of people are setting it lower than everything else. I have everything on very high except for object and shaders.

Also where do you turn the chromatic aberration off? Console?

r_ChromaticAberration 0 on console, you can also make an autoexec.cfg so you don't have to manually input that every time you start the game.

still experimentin, although it looks great it looks washed out sometimes. i did put brightness quite high before starting so maybe thats it

Object turned off tessellation in 2, not sure what else.

Wow, hyper threading really helps this game? Looks like 6FPS greater on average with an i7 vs i5. Any Ivy/Sandy benchmarks for overclocks?

Got a consistent 30fps (set as max fps) on my GTX 580 & i7 870:
AA: SMAA Low (1x)
Texture Res & 'System spec' set to High.

This as I'm interested in seeing some of those OC results for some of the processors they have.
