Crysis 3 PC Performance Thread

Object turned off tessellation in 2, not sure what else.

I'm pretty sure it also decreases the distance of detailed objects. So you'll see objects pop to a lower quality version at a shorter distance. Geforce experience turned my to medium too.

psycho's just seen how great the game looks on PC

THAT'S PSYCHO???

played through the entire sp game maxed out at 1080p with SMAA medium at a rock solid 30fps (capped). Felt great with a controller and never had to worry about performance.

To be honest his original voice actor looked nothing like what he did in game, at least David Kennedy is close to the original Psycho.

Characters don't have to resemble their voice actor.
I liked him in C1 and Warhead. Gonna have to get used to a completely new character with the same name.

Almost finished building my new PC. Just waiting for my RAM. Stupid Royal Mail were supposed to deliver it today. :(

Hope my 7970 will be able to handle this well.

True, but since they were doing full body motion capture for C3 and voice capture at the same time, it helps if the person doing the capture and doing the voice are the same person.

editing CVars was a life saver. MP is so much better with FOV @ 80. Wasn't sure if that would be allowed. Now I just need to add the chromatic aberration command and I should be good to go.

Re: Geforce Experience app, I too think it's pretty good for finding a starting point. It It gave me a medium Object setting, with textures and a few others on Very High, shaders on High, plus 1x SMAA. Those settings gave me a very playable framerate at 1080P and I bumped SMAA to 2x/Medium. 680 OCed to ~1260/3570k

How do you edit the "CVars" exactly? Would like to change FOV.

its the weekend though, i reckon we'll hear something next week

i just worked through it, hate doing that but this game looks so good and performs well elsewhere

So my game has crashed 4 times in the final boss fight, no idea why but I can't finish the game since it keeps crashed.

It played fine for the entire game, it's only the final boss fight were it started to crash.

EDIT: Have done some testing. The crash happens at the same point each time (Final Boss Fight/Cutscene Spoilers:
After you shoot the Alpha Ceph with the bow, the cutscene happens with Psycho being trapped in the VTOL. When you can't hold on and get sucked up,
that's when the crash happens)

I've tried disabling things I think might be causing problems. The crash happens at the same point even if Steam Overlay is disabled, Raptr Desktop App is disabled, MSI Afterburner is disabled. I don't have any other programs to my knowledge that hook into the game in any way or that could be causing the crash.

This is a game breaking crash for me, even if it's at the end. I cannot get past it. Haven't tried launching game in safe mode, we'll see if that works.

EDIT #2: Just noticed Origin games don't have a safe mode, I was thinking of UPlay games.

Perhaps try restarting the level? Could potentially be something funky with your save file.

I think it's the effect of looking out of your visor (chromatic abberation)? Personally I like how organic it makes everything look. Reality isn't always clean and sharp, especially not Hollywood Blockbuster cinematic reality.

it's like a transparent out line. Whenever I shoot it looks jacked up since it's almost like a double image from the gun. Hard to explain it but it's terrible. I'll try changing c_abb to 0, but I don't think that will fix it as I've done that before.

It's a big ass level and I really don't want to do the final boss fight again. From what I've heard, there is only like 5 more minutes of game, I might just watch it on YouTube and not bother.

Tried the game. I have a GTX 550TI slightly OC'd, A FX4100 oc'd to 4.1GHZ and 8GB DDR3 Ram.

I have the game running at 1360x768 resolution, no AA, texture resolution on high and system specs at medium lens flare on and the game runs beautifully. The first level on that bridge where there's like a group of guys and a helicopter maintained 50-60fps while in firefight with them as told by Fraps. I would've thought this game would've came to a screeching halt on my rig. I can't seem to choose anything higher than 1360x768 though, they just don't appear.

I tried finding the optimized settings using the GeForce Experience, but it puts almost all the settings on low. I am using high/very high settings at 30-45 fps, so somethings is wrong.

Well my 2GB 680 just met its match.

Tried downsampling from 2160p with 4xMSAA and client crashed.

There is zero reason to use 4xMSAA (especially if you are downsampling). SMAA or TXAA are plenty good enough.

I do not understand this obsession PC-GAF has with super methods of AA that make a game unplayable.

Wtf. I get constant drops into the 20s at those settings. -_- Also have it capped at 30 with controller playing on my TV.

Radeon 7970 @ 1050/1450
i5 2500k @ 4.8 ghz
16 gbs memory

Not sure why the framerate takes a nosedive. I'm guessing AMD needs better drivers as usual

If I'm rolling with a 580, and I want to play everything on very high with no post processing and probably no AA, what kind of performance can I expect?

is the game that bad or boring where having to restart a level is out of the question? I didn't mind at all having to do this for the first, and most of the second game.

It's not bad or boring, I just don't want to go back through something I just played to see the last 5 minutes of gameplay that happens after my crash.

That level is a good 20 minutes from the start before I get to the point I crash (if I go for nothing but main objectives)

It's nothing against the level or the gameplay, I just personally don't want to go through all of it again

q6600 oc to 3.6GHz
gtx 460 oc
8GB ddr3 1600Mhz

high settings, fxaa, no motion blur 1080p.

33-45fps :{ tiem for an upgrade.

haha max settings 8xAA low motion blur 8-13fps sounds like crysis to me xD

So how does single player run maxed out on a GTX 590?

At 1080p, everything on very high, 8x MSAA? Not very good. 20-30 FPS with frequent drops into the teens.

However, 1080p, dropping shaders and shadows to high, going with 2x SMAA, vsync off yields for me fairly consistent 60 FPS with occasional drops to 50 (i7, 8 gigs Ram, 120 hz monitor).

Does anyone else get weird shimmering on the faces?

At first I thought it was something to do with the AA, but I tried every variation and it was fine.

It might be a shadows thing but I tried that too.

Running a 680m so it might just be a weird mobile driver bug and it's a minor blemish but it's just noticeable enough to be annoying.

You are not the only one. I crash on the final boss too, never crashed once before that. I saw posts from a couple other people with the same problem.

I said fuck it and watched the ending on YouTube.

Apparently after the point I crash at I miss literally 30 seconds of "gameplay", the rest is cutscenes and stuff you can't control.

GTX 680 @ 1260mhz, 3570K @ 4.1Ghz. This is my autoexec.cfg. I tried to put most of the tweakable values between their default High and Very High settings.

cl_fov 72
pl_movement.power_sprint_targetFov 72
r_drawnearfov 72
g_skipIntro On
r_ChromaticAberration 0
r_HDRBloomRatio 0.08
r_ssao
e_MergedMeshesInstanceDist 4
e_LodRatio 12
e_ViewDistRatio 55
e_ViewDistRatioVegetation 39
e_ViewDistRatioDetail 26
e_ParticlesObjectCollisions Static
e_ParticlesMotionBlur off
r_SilhouettePOM off
e_GI on
r_FogShadows on
r_FogShadowsWater on
r_SSReflections off
g_radialBlur off
r_ColorGrading off

Pretty solid 60fps at 1080P w/ 4x SMAA. The main things are the LOD settings, which seem to really help performance, and I don't notice much LOD pop-in so it's a great trade-off. Also turned off Particle Blur and Radial Blur. Some of the default values for Very High are much, much greater than the High default, so there's a lot of room in between to mess around. Fake edit: I realize some of the settings are redundant, apologies.
