Cyberpunk 2077 — Our Commitment to Quality

Them not seeing the problems on the base consoles is just

That is most likely a lie to save their asses when they go to court. If he admits it on camera, they are fucked.

Q: What was the main issue that made development for consoles that difficult?

A: The main culprit was having to constantly improve our in-game streaming system for old-gen consoles. Streaming is responsible for "feeding" the engine with what you see on screen, as well as the game mechanics. Since the city is so packed and the disk bandwidth of old-gen consoles is what it is, this is something that constantly challenged us.
Oh what a dilemma. If only there was an obvious solution like delaying the console version until it is done... hmmm.

They should STFU and just work on the game

How is it that the next gen versions are a year behind. Total mess of project management

Agreed. There goes that bullshit argument that it was suppose to be "da next gen gamez". Not ready for PS4 and XONE the very systems the game was designed for, but also not ready for PS5 or Series X...... This game wasn't ready period. Those even arguing that the PC version was fine... the PC version has smart AI? You can bribe cops on that version or? Cop chases?

Lets be honest here folks, this fucking timeline proves this game had no business releasing in fall 2020. This is a early access, live service game. The "free DLC" is the rest of the fucking game.... When so many features are stripped, removed etc, its no longer simply additional content, its the rest of the game at this point.

No. The "Free DLC" is a weapon and a shirt and a haircut. The rest of the game probably cut and moved for expansions or saved for Cyberpunk online.

I wonder if they're really that dumb. How about simply not making the city as "packed"? Did they actually have any intention of it running smoothly on base consoles or not?

Either you make a compromise to the city density, or you don't release it on those consoles. This should have been decided very early on in development. Designing a game seemingly without any regard for base hardware and saying how they were constantly challenged by essentially trying to fit a square peg in a round hole for 4 years is asinine for a studio of their size.

I'm sure they are dumb. They have to be that's the only explanation. You and all the armchair executives here are way smarter I mean you are finding solutions to every problem in seconds. You would do a much better job than these dumb motherfuckers

The reason the game released when it was not finished is quite simple: money.
Almost certain the boss of CDPR was promised a bonus (let's say 500K) if it was ready to release in time of the holiday sales. He just took the money.

For all the people making fun of 'we really thought we could deliver' mantra - this is how sometimes things turn out due to personal investment, and lack of objective evaluation. I will use the example of Pan Am example, a very well studied scenario in Organizational Behavior:

The crash only happened due to multiple failures on the part of the crew and the control tower. If only one of multiple failures to communicate didn't happen the crash would have most likely been avoided.

So yes, it is perfectly reasonable to think that despite all evidenced to the contrary they really thought they will pull through. The problem was that there was no process or no person to take a step back, evaluate the situation with cool head and decide to postpone the release.

This 100%. That's exactly how things work. Anybody that thinks that delaying the game any further or cutting the X1/PS4 console market out was even a possibility for CDPR management is really naive.

CDPR CEO is one of the co-founders, so I'm going to go with a no on that one.

Or maybe they already had plenty of time and some of developers simply couldn't keep up with what the ambitions were..

Solid video, it can't be easy to stand there and say it. So kudos on doing it... The foundation is all there for something great and 1.06 has completely eliminated crashes on PS4 Pro.

It's the closest thing we have right now of a true next-gen game and I love it. Only regret I have is not having the time to play it more due to work.
lol, I want to know whats the secret with your PS4 Pro

Have played for about 20 minutes just now and then poof, crashed. Turned off the videogame, came to Gaf and saw this.

Going anywhere near Little China/Afterlife/Downtown in general is almost like walking on a minefield.

Sooner or later, game will crash

i do think that yes. not magically excused. materially excused. if you lie to make money and then you are giving that money back to those that are not happy with the product even after they beat the game how is that not making things less shady? look at what other companies like EA, Ubisoft or Bethesda do when they release broken products.

of course i would rather have transparency or a flawless launch for that matter. but i'm not talking about the past. i'm talking about the future here. cdpr's response to this meltdown has been really good but people still attack them nonstop. and when i ask people what do they want the answer is "what i want is for them to not release a broken product" which doesn't answer the question at all.

they alreadly released the game. what do you want them to do now. how should a developer act when they make a mistake. well they should act like cdpr is acting now. refund everyone that isn't happy (even after beating the game) and fix the game for free. i don't know what more people want to be honest but that is already better than 99% of other companies.

I guess it brings a natural close to the conversation. I'm just not as easily convinced as you and it's fine. However, it should be noted I stated I'd still buy their next game providing the product is good. I'm not the type to hold a grudge over video games and I'm not overly invested in the drama. Like I said it's just a shitty thing they did and by responding in this thread I probably give the impression I care more than I actually do.

Granted how they are responding is good, but keep in mind it's only because of the massive unprecedented backlash. If they could have gotten away with it they would have. I'll just be patient, but if their next game is good I'll buy it.

Have a good day, if you want to continue the conversation further I'll only reply via DM as I find back and forths that go on too long on a public forum are a bit cringey. :)

Its a damn shame they released the game like they did. Another eight to twelve months and it could have been a masterpiece.
Problem was another delay would have had people calling for their heads.

I wonder when it will be back on PlayStation Store.
Maybe when it's in a presentable and playable state. I guess it will take another 2 month for them to fix the game on console. I mean, it's only been out for like a month and they had like 1 week of christmas break or even more. I think it's this week, that the majority of the devs went back to work and really started to work on the game again.

DAAAAAMN!!!!! Another 6 months at least for next gen upgrade???
What exactly is people expecting from this next-gen upgrades? I've seen the game running on RTX2060 super with Intel I7 and it's not that much of jump from the current XSX/PS5 performance and looks. Don't get your hopes too high.

A: We did. As it turned out, our testing did not show many of the issues you experienced while playing the game.
BS... still hiding behind the word "many" which is technically true if performance was shit and some nasty bugs were there and they still signed it off but a large variety of other minor bugs went undetected.

See kids, that is how you can mislead without giving grounds to lawsuits :P.

Are you making an argument against the game needing that much time or seen the PS4 version running on PS5 and not noticed the lack in crowd density for example?

- cars being first blobs, and then turning into real cars
- object pop-in
- low-res texture streaming

I quit playing due to these graphical bugs. If they fix these, I'll be happy enough.

Yaaaa I'm not sure what they were trying to gain here..

Just when the bad publicity was dying down they release this.
CDPR are facing multiple lawsuits and Polish government has started an investigation into the whole thing, I'm sure that has something to do with it...

This is a false equivalency. He never said it was a communication error but a sever underestimation of the timeframe to fix said problem.

And a statement like this wouldnt address any of that.

The lawsuits will happen whether they want to make statements or not like this. It's far too late to for that.

It comes off as trying to get back into people's good books but that statement about not knowing the last gen consoles were in such bad shape is VERY hard to believe.

Which is not impossible per se, I was simply mentioning that since many people are 100% convinced CDPR is lying and they willingly shipped a broken product.

Bunch of poppycock damage control. It's a life service game.

I called into michael does life stream (dude who broke the news about the console versions) and broke this news to him he's reacting live

I can believe that supporting the old consoles and PC's with low RAM and mechanical drives have issues to their streaming engine (that was strained for Witcher 3 already), but not sure why users should have to suffer or care for that beyond a certain point. It would have been fine as an excuse to delay the current generation consoles version or the entire game to be fair for six more months and the company had enough revenue to take it and get good PR from fans (they had preorders in already too).

By releasing the footage it shows that CDPR is committed to trying to fix the thing no matter what and that's something the Polish watchdogs are keeping an eye on and it will help their chances in court as well.

They did deliberately lie and deceive customers. I know you are passionate about the game and despite my previous post I do like the game and it will be truly something special in the coming months but lets be real here.

The fuck are you talking about and what the hell are you doing comparing this to a horrible accident where hundreds lost their lives?

There was a terrorist incident at the airport where those planes were supposed to be so they had to get diverted to that smaller airport where there wasn't capacity for the overflow. The flights were behind schedule, there was poor visibility and there was interruption on the radio signal which caused the KLM crew to misinterpret the messages from ATC.

Please explain to me how that series of circumstances is comparable to this crap involving a videogame and greedy executives/management.

Oh no, another yellow panel.

In retrospect, I'm liking Hello Games more and more in their approach to avoid further drama and excuses. Work on your game, cut all the bullshit, let your work speak for itself.

The management at CDPR is still doing millions of dollars of damage.

Yeah, ok. Will wait till the GOTY edition (with all the DLC) is on sale for 15 euro at the end of 2022.

This is the only sane approach.

Yeah I don't feel sorry for getting my refund after completing the main story anymore, fuck waiting till Fall of 2021 for the next gen upgrade which should have been out from day one, especially when you see they're prioritising DLC over releasing a vital next gen upgrade, but then again the game should have released finished and playable on PS4/XB1 consoles in the first place.

I will definitely be picking this up when the next gen upgrade drops, just a shame that they will make us wait that long for something that really should have been there from launch or at the very latest March/April 2021.

I wish they spend some time fixing the police and traffic system. It really breaks your immersion. I simply don't care about driving any longer as the traffic route and AI is completely broken. Very often you see cars parked in the middle of a high way or access road blocking the path of all other cars. Still, they just stay there lined in a queue awaiting forever. The police is not even worth spend words, completely useless and broken. I don't even know why they bothered in implementing such system. It would have been better if they just assumed that the police is corrupt and nowhere to be seen (just in their HQ).

Why even focus on DLC when the intial game is broken. Top prio should be to fix this mess of a game in 2021 and maybe offer DLC in 2022.

That cost CDPR a lot of early profit, and if you got your refund you legally have no right to bitch about a product you no longer own and have been compensated on.

You'd like to think that, but trust me some of the man babies in this thread will be complaining about this on GAF for the rest of their lives as if CDP embezzled them of their family fortunes. If in the midst of Covid the biggest issue for you is a buggy game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯,

Why even focus on DLC when the intial game is broken. Top prio should be to fix this mess of a game in 2021 and maybe offer DLC in 2022.

Did you read the roadmap? We're looking at 2 big updates to iron out the bulk of issues (one within ten days and the second in Feb) with the DLC coming afterwards whilst further updates and improvements will be delivered. Albeit a lot of people are big on catastrophizing it's not going an entire year to fix present issues.

Weird thing to say. Bugs are mostly technical issues, a large part of the development team has no business with any of that. Assets, audio, visual design to name a few; All those teams can continue to work on [for example] DLCs.

Thank for your reaction. Yes I did read it but after everything that went down I'm in a state ''wait and see'' You cant deny there is a lot to fix to fullfill the intial promise. In my opinion fixing the game an releasing the next-gen patch should be the prio.

Like I said Im now at ''wait and see'' not gonna make the same mistake again (bought the CE)

Communication is great, but this doesn't feel like it's for us. Maybe I'm wrong but that's my initial impression. Either way, that's great. Fix your game, get it running well so people can play it. That said, the game we got wasn't the game they advertised through most of their marketing and they know it. I don't mind bugs, I don't mind crashes. If there's a great game there I can put up with a lot, but this game is incredibly mediocre. I loved the design of the city and some of the art in this game is incredible but the actual game was just a standard open world shooter. That's not what they sold to us a few years ago. Playing this game felt like an MDMA high slowly fading. The excitement of what I was seeing was slowly washing away as I realised there was nothing beneath the surface. Only a distant neon glow.

I don't even know if I would want to return to this game in a year or two, I find it unlikely they would be able to deliver on the messaging the originally marketed. Especially if they're struggling now with getting what's their to technically function correctly. I'm glad people are really digging this game because a lot of hard work obviously went into it.

Q: Didn't you test old-gen consoles to keep tabs on the experience?

A:
We did. As it turned out, our testing did not show many of the issues you experienced while playing the game. As we got closer to launch, we saw significant improvements each and every day, and we really believed we'd deliver in the final day zero update.

Are they serious with this bullshit? They tested the last gen versions and didn't see what was wrong with it? It's just one lie after another with this company.
CDPR did test the old gen versions of the game, with VR helmets on, catch is they were unplugged.
