2018 (looked janky, but better lighting etc)

2020 (looks cr#p, fallout 4 level from yesteryear)

2018 (was fake, not real time, looks better though)

2020 (this looks like Ubisoft took over their game)

They told us, the game was all about vertical progression as seen in their first 1h demo from 4 years ago? where they had to rescue a near-dead woman. Remember?

Now there´s an open world, with nomads ... so we get a horizontal progression after all. Drive from city to city ... lame. And i just don´t wanna waste my time pretending to be an officer or PI using some VR googles to track down a criminal.

Visually during night, it looks good. During the daylight it looks like ...; the best part seems to be the RPG system.

2018 = sold as gameplay, as "current state", visuals, just a render film after all
2020 = looks "reduced". Terrible lighting, textures, geometry ... like am i the only one seeing the major downgrade?

We shit on Ubisoft, Sony for "downgrading" but god forbid, we trash CDPR ...

That's a seriously shit hot-take you got there.

Nothing in the pics you posted backs up anything you say.

Yeah I didn’t like that melee combat. Looked janky and stuttered a lot which was weird

Has GTAV vibes. I am loving everything i have seen except the first person mode, would have much preferred third person.

I trust the people who delivered the great Witcher games to deliver something worth my time and money here.

The people complaining about the graphics , not every game can be a hallway walking simulator like all the pretty well rated games this generation.

Hope this shit has no witcher 3 DNA witcher 3 combat was straight trash.

Btw there are alot of high reviewed, great looking games tht aren't hallway walking simulators lol thts salty

Astrobot, Horizon Zero Dawn, Forza Horizon, Dreams, Bloodborne, I'd even add Tlou 2 with its open levels even if it's a linear game and alot more.

You cappin for edgyness but it's cool We get it you are excited for the game. I was excited but I'm 50/50 now we shall see.

Maybe trolling. Can't tell...

Anyway, the lighting has changed - the in-car light appears to have been turned off, and the in-world location appears to be different and at a different time of day - but the geometric complexity appears to be virtually identical. The lighting feels more organic in 2020 as a result. Textures have been changed - his undershirt, for example - but not not been downgraded - see his hand and watch. There are subtle upgrades - his beard appears more natural , the hinge joint on his robotic arm more rounded - but, by and large, it's pretty much the same, just with different lighting.
But... an "Ubisfot downgrade"? If this is the idiocy your peddling, you're a joke.

but all of those games you listed, were worse overall games than the witcher 3....

especially if you care about writing or quest design; quests/writing is what creates diversity in gameplay experiences throughout the game, rather than doing samey quests with a decent combat system. what do you prefer?

if you prefer the latter, then you probably look at horizon favorably; and likely miss what the potential of this game will be.

because if you don't want ANY DNA of the witcher 3, then you didn't know what to appreciate about that game in the first place, or what it did better than other games. which is....kind of an issue.

what about every other scene and the gifs people are posting? those literally look better than the majority of the old (washed out) gameplay footage. especially character models. stop being dishonest. don't post a random screen out of ALL the images we've seen.

you "gamers" need to learn when to notice when a title is setting a bar tbh, because when "gamers' can't tell when titles are setting "bars" it makes it to where there isn't one. and games like fallout can still be made.

I honestly couldn't give a rat's dick if the combat is mediocre. Mass Effect 1 and Witcher 3's combat was criticized across the board, but people adored those games. A good game, is a game that accomplishes want it wants to be. Cyberpunk 2077 isn't trying to be a FPS. It's trying to be an open world RPG set in a Cyberpunk setting. In that regard, it looks like they're succeeding so far.

Great post, i wouldn't mind the combat being a little bit better than Mass Effect 1 and Witcher 3 though, even though i love both games to death.:messenger_heart:

You are so fucking stupid, it is amazing. Comparing two shots with different location and ToD and whining like a baby.

I love this showcase, plus it allowed me to see very clearly which r*tds and trolls infest this forum and fill up the ignore list. Now I get to see more quality posts instead from quality members. :)

Worse overall huh? Just like Witcher several won goty their respective years so thts bs. Btw your talking to someone tht played Witcher 3 up to Skellige and dropped it out of boredom due to the crappy ballerina combat and constant dialogue. Tried to pick it up twice after and just cant get into it. So maybe for you but for me all those games are better.

Besides the comment was about only walking simulators being looked favorably and scoring high I destroyed that bs narrative with my list 😊

They're doing a series of these right? This game jumps between looking 'cool' and 'omfg'. Braindance immediately make me think of Cage's investigate in Detroit, and something seems off on the animations

They went for a less contrasty grade and people love contrast in their image, thats probably why people speak about a downgrade. That's 80% of the reason from what I can see people posting.

The combat looks pretty simple but fun, fist fighting looks pretty crap right now, but serviceable. I know exactly what I'll be doing this time though, not going to miss the story of another game because I don't like the gameplay so if it doesn't click with me after a few hours I'm going to be using WeMod or some other form of cheating to make it fun for me. I was going to go back and do this with W3 but its too late now, I've moved on, and I'll just play it when I'm 80:

I never got to hour four with The Witcher 3 because I didn't like the combat and loot progression - I like to max out each map in a game before I move on and every source I could find said the best weapon you can find in one area will be outclassed by the first rusty sword you find in the next (higher level) area, and that sounded crap to me so I didn't continue - tried to ignore it and just play the game for the story/quests but it didn't click with me, the dialogue and characters were fantastic but the actual minutiae of the quests was pretty boring if you weren't enjoying combat or the loot, for me it seemed to be just using the witcher vision over and over to follow trails. As I said I dropped off after a few hours so I don't know if that changes as the game goes on.

Not this time though! WeMod here I come lol

Then I can actually have fucking conversations about the stories and events in these "masterpiece" titles. All I hear is that W3 is (subjectively, ofc) the game with the best writing, characters, story, sidequests and DLC of all time but I have no reference at all. Its like someone tell you "The Thing" has an amazing screenplay but all you've seen is images from the film.

I think so, the 2020 version has that oversharpened look that Control had in the Digital Foundry DLSS comparison, if they just toned that down a bit or let us control it I'd be able to enjoy DLSS more. The 2018 one has the muddiness to the image but its probably also a big factor that the bitrate is higher in the 2020 video/they fucked up the youtube encode on the 2018 one.

What in the fuck are you talking about?

We always knew/suspected there was an open area outside the city, based on an early map and screenshots. We've just been seeing how big it is now. They're not taking away the density of Night City, and there's only 1 city with different districts.

so I read you right then? you didn't appreciate the witcher 3, so it's contributing to how you're assessing this game.

did you feel horizon had more creative quests than the witcher 3? Or do you prioritize quests that result in combat.

just like Witcher several won goty their respective years so thts bs.

I don't even know what you're trying to say here lol

The art direction is just through the roof. Syd Mead's wet dream. Can't get enough.
My major concern now (besides 3rd person) is the hand to hand combat looks tacked on/made without much fighting or martial arts research. Even something like Zeno Clash looks much better.

If this blows up to the level of Skyrim, can't wait for all the mods in about 5 years.

I definitely liked the more toned down colors of the 2018 showing but this can be easily fixed with a re-shade.

Pop-in is horrendous, some of the worst I've seen in an open-world game this generation. Also, city looks like a ghost town at night., where are the crowds?

That is the problem I have with severa open world games of today still, even GTA5, the population density is very low. Spider-man was one of the few that got you a bit closer to how a busy city like NYC should feel.

You chose poor comparison shots as lighting looks better and more cohesive in the 2020 shot there 🤷‍♂️.

I just realized that why I have slight dislike towards the tone I'm getting from this game is because it reminds me of The Fast and Furious...
