Damn the PS4 is sluggish it is getting hammered

Read the posts again, because I cant sign into PSN I cant even play single player games I have bought digitally as there is a online DRM check.

OK, PSN goes down, fine, don't lock all my games Sony....That is the problem
Disconnect the PS4, because I know for a fact you can play digitally downloaded games without an active internet connection. I do it all the times in hotels.

Waiting for the wise input that I should of bought disk copies......

I understand your frustration but your making it seem like they don't know this. If it's down, doesn't that mean they are working on it. It's not like they aren't aware of the situation. Going on and on about it Is obviously not fixing the issue. It's called patience. No network when congested, ever works a 100%. Be at least happy you don't have a bricked console, then I can say you have something to be in arms about, but a network issue just to sign in and play a game which I'd obviously TEMPORARY, is not that much of a big deal. I hate to say do something else in the mean time but seriously.. It's really not that hard to wait.

So this is how children react when you forget to purchase AA batteries Christmas morning.

Duly noted.

You don't get it - I just realised that If the PSN Authorisation service for digital content stops working then the game you bought is locked.

All of a sudden the once every 24 hour authentication E3 stuff sounds like a wishfull dream

PS4 is fine, the Xbox One is sluggish, the OS struggles to start a party when playing COD, the Xbox 360 even did it better.

Not sure what the OP is using but Playstation Live sounds like something available on a mobile phone.

My Xbox One is perfect, might want to contact support.

As for the PS4 OP is kinda right.

Store is broke but other than that all is well. I'd really like to redeem these gift cards I got from my wife. Eh, they aren't going anywhere and there really isn't anything for PS4 or Vita I'm dying to have.

Waiting for the wise input that I should of bought disk copies......

Your fault, should have bought disk copies. Happy now?

I haven't had any Psn issues outside of launch day. Don't see how its a sony problem when every network slows down with heavy traffic.

Please, please do us all a favour and buy an xbox one.
Such a whiner.

Hah. I'm not whining. However, my 9 and 7 year old kids are doing plenty of that!

I like the PS4 quite a bit, but the network infrastructure with that system has always concerned me. Network back ends aren't really Sony's "thing".

I'm not really having any issues with my ps3 or ps4

How are they incompetent? Because of a Christmas rush? This post is incompetent. No network company can calculate how much people will try to sign on at once and be able to stop it from happening. Oh please.

Maybe their network tem could call their PR team and have them fax that press release that had the sales numbers in it.

Got my PS4 going on launchday. Update took four minutes. Downloaded the update for my sons this morning at 8AM EST and it took 4 minutes. Tried to download warframe, it said system is down for maintanence? The hell you say!? Tried again 2 seconds later, and it's downloading fine. Other than that, it's working perfect. Even downloading all of his game updates, and Okami HD for my daughters PS3. All the while playing NBA 2K14 on one PS4, and Warframe on the other. I can't ask for anything more from "PSN Live" than that. Other than delivering me into the future to play Destiny.

Didn't this use to happen on Live every Christmas? Tons of new gamers are trying to do account activity so it kills the system. It happened on Ps4 US and EU launch. Hell it happened to Vita I remember. No big deal. Try patience. It seems with the large market share switch these are problems we can expect. I am happy so many nee people are coming on board. Take it as a positive. It is not new it is what happens to a popular service when it gets hammered.

Exactly. It's like saying every Highway should be prepared for heavy traffic everyday by having a black up Lane.

Except it costs a billion dollars and 10 years to build a new freeway lane, and you can add a fire up a new virtual server for a few dollars in 100ms. So if you aren;t doing it, it is because you have failed in the design of your architecture.

The status page says its back online. Anyone seeing improvements? I'll be at my family's house all day so I won't be able to play until tonight.

Thinking about getting battlefield 4.

Uhm... No? If it was so easy as to just add virtual servers, why do companies have issues with outages due to heavy load?

Obviously you are very smart, so explain to me how you fix DDoS as I never learned that when I got my Cisco certification. It would also be helpful for GAF, which unfortunately sometimes goes down due to megatons. I'm sure the administrators appreciate your input.

This, pretty much.

How about for one day some go and do something that doesn't involve gaming and enjoy the time with their family?

What are you even talking about?

That the number of people trying to connect is 100% predictable based on the number of sales. Unlike an MMO launch or a digital game launch (SimCity), where sales can exceed expectations, Sony has known exactly how many consoles were manufactured, and were going to be in sales channels for months now, so they should have been able to prepare for it.

It seems that the entire ps4 UI is dependent on an Internet connection that must shake hands with the psn servers. None of the info loads. The info underneath a game, what's new, and even the library requires a connection as it says the servers are currently undergoing matientnce right now. I cannot do anything aside play ghosts right now. The only game I have on disc. Also the ps4 is running louder than usual right now. Not sure if related but I just noticed it

Please don't tell me you work for a network company.

Exactly. It's like saying every Highway should be prepared for heavy traffic everyday by having a black up Lane.

I didn't know it was possible to rent additional highways.

If Sony is down due to a DDoS then they deserve some slack. If they are down because they have a poorly architected system they deserve criticism.

Companies have issues with outages due to heavy load either because they are cheap, or poorly architected.

eat some turkey. Watch A Christmas Story. Hang with the family. We have a whole generation to play PS4. So much anger

Unfortunately, you're not taking into account the factors Sony can't control. They may know how many PS4s there are in the wild, but they cannot predict how much they'll need. It's not a black and white, 1:1 ratio. What you're suggesting could very well have them end up wasting money in the long run on servers they only need for one day at best.

This is why almost every MMORPG out there has issues on launch day. They can predict how many copies they need, but they can't predict the load on the server and would rather risk being unequipped and having users get errors then being over equipped and blowing money on bandwidth they don't need.

But the entire network is NOT having problems. I'm on!

Well sure. When I said the entire network is having problems I didn't mean that nobody could log on or anything as severe as that, just that it's a little pointless to try to compare the problems of one game against the problems of (seemingly) a whole network. Just a bad choice of words on my part I guess.

I still can't connect on PS4. Getting various error messages and occasionally it just tries forever.

Right, so you are claiming they were being cheap. That they hoped fewer people would be internet connected that actually are. I'm saying, they should go ahead and waste the money and guarantee the uptime. And since this is just the first couple months of the life of the system, supporting the full sales base now will come in handy next christmas.

Do your research again. Sony explicitly said Sony games would not require your ps4 to be online.
Its up to the publisher.
Sony didnt lock your games.

PlayStation Live is chugging for me too, reminds me of launch week. I wonder when it'll be back in snappy shape? Also, can anyone tell me where I can buy PSL Gold? I've heard it helps, but I can't seem to find an entry for it on the eShop.

Why are my games drm locked all of a sudden...
Wat

Stop game-sharing. ^_^

Couldn't get on at all with wifi, lan cable done the trick although theres still alot I can't seem to access at the moment. At least I can download Warframe and Blacklight though

No. I'm saying it's not realistically possible to predict this kind of stuff. You just can't. Why do you think almost every MMO has this problem? Why do you think all the major companies have issues? Surely if it was that simple, no big company would ever have problems at all right? Right?

It's not an issue of black and white, and you lack the understanding of what you're suggesting. You are basically saying "Throw thousands of dollars at something that will solve itself without throwing thousands of dollars at it." Hell, depending on the server setup it might not even be possible to throw more servers at it.

Never have. I just read about how ps4 games can be "online only" drm locked by the publisher.
Darn

I am speechless and we deserve an answer.

Maybe Sony need to implement a solution so we can play these games without the pSN DRM check in. Something needs to be done and we deserve an answer

Speechless? The netowork being clogged on Christmas? Not very surprising. Take a deep breath. This kind of things happen all the time, and this really shouldn't be a shocker.

In the mean time did you try going into the PSN menu and selecting restore licenses? That lock thing happened to me when I downloaded Pinball Arcade for some reason, and that fixed it.

So it seems I can play games, and at least log-in now. Now I just can't get into the PS Store, as long as I can play my games I'm good.

Well, people with jobs don't typically have zillions of hours to burn to play games.

My kid got Ghosts for Christmas, and instead of playing online together, we are watching Christmas Vacation for the 1000th time.

Thank you Sony! Should have bought an Xbox One.

You damn skippy.

Because that solves all the issues, right?

I hope you don't work for a network company.

I don't know if that would solve any issues because I don't know what the issue is exactly. All I know is that they're doing "maintenance". I just hope this thread keeps me entertained until they're done. Watching the usual suspects defend Sony sure is fun.

You're cute, but I'd recommend some system admin classes. You have no clue what your talking about.

Yes they did. We have 2 Ps4, a master one that is the primary account and a second one where the user needs PS+ to access content.

My son is playing the primary account PS4 where all games are first downloaded. he is playing now.

The 2nd one you have to sign into PSN+ to play anything...

So I will rephrase it, PsN authorisation server going down puts a PAD LOCK ICON on all the digital games / free games and PSN games that I can play when I can connect to Psn on the second Ps4.

So how do you predict the sales of the future with 100% accuracy? Plz tell me so i can make a shitload of money on the stock market.

They aren't doing maintenance though. Maintenances are announced and scheduled in advance.

Your post seemed to imply that whatever issue some people are having would be fixed by renting additional servers while calling others out. Doesn't gel with this latest post.
