Dark Cloud 2 / Dark Chronicle |OT| A Picture's Worth a Thousand Gilda

Sunk in about 10 hours into this game, but I think I'm done. Its not for me.

Back in the day, I probably would have really enjoyed it. But yeah, I never feel like I'm having fun.

For me, the problems are...

-Combat is not good at all. Feels really stiff. Feels like I'm in mud when dodging/attacking. Probably doesn't help that I just came out of Bloodborne, haha. But yeah, I never found myself enjoying the combat.

-The repetitive dungeons. Feels like an absolute slog to get through these. When I saw 15 question marks screens at the forest dungeon, I just said to myself "ohh no..." If I feel this, I know its time to stop playing.

-Fishing seems really basic/boring. There is no skill to it at all, and some of the bigger fish take forever because of the way its handled. Small taps of x, then direction of arrow, rinse and repeat.

-The photo taking is cool in concept, but having to take pictures of literally EVERYTHING sours me. You also lose track of what pictures you've taken, so you start taking pictures of shit you have taken. At the end, I didn't give a shit anymore. I just went into a house, and mashed square 30 times when zooming around the room.

Just a bunch of other stuff that I don't want to bother getting into, but it adds up. Stuff like weapons breaking. Like, f off with that shit. lol.

Anyways, I stopped playing when I gave that huge fish a smaller fish and then I proceeded, and it asked me to throw some items into a pond. Had no idea what to do, checked online, and it was some complicated shit like revive jurak, then get a tailor to come to your town, get a seed, go to the future, blah blah. I'm like "nahhh".

But at least I can say I tried it. I don't regret my purchase. Now I can understand why people like this game. I think I would have loved it 10 years ago.

Finally getting spheda down thank goodness. After hours of rage yesterday I completed 9 courses today without having to replay to many in just about an hour and change. So happy underground channel is done!!

I agree.

They should have put down some effort in re-mastering and tweak some details.

Would love a Steam-release though!

I don't know...

These were my exact problems with the game 10 years ago lol.

Well except the obtuse town building shit, I loved that. Just couldn't stand having to do 10 random gendo samey levels to score one geo piece.. Only 5o more geo prices to go now!

Man it would be sweet if this game took a persistent world adventure approach (level 3-4 like a good Zelda) instead of the bland samey random level 10000 times layout.

I'm about 8 hours in and loving it. I played it back in the day and still have my ps2 disc but this time I can do it on the Vita via remote play and it's awesome. Definitely recommend.

I see an update was released for DC2 last night but I can't find any mention of what it did...and nothing obvious in game. Anyone know what was changed?

The only thing I've noticed is that when you boot up the game from the PS4 Menu it shows a cute Dark Cloud 2 Illustration before the game starts. I've noticed nothing else in game though.

Lol, that kind of effort would've made it a reboot. Those are key features of the game, not easy to change. The game is 15 years old, it's going to be janky. Emulation improvements are the most realistic option, that and hoping for an updated new entry in the series.

Finally got around to starting this up. I got a kick out of the elephant performing a Jecht Shot.

Man it looks like there's lots of grinding to do for materials for everything, I was going through one floor at a time killing everything and I got to a floor after I saved the firbits with a crap load of mechs and it just kicked my ass. I had only used my ridepod for the mech enemies and I hadn't got enough XP to upgrade it yet.

I probably only need to get the cannon upgrade so I had a projectile attack but I did a lot more grinding and now my ridepod is bad ass.

Can anyone confirm how the invention trophy works? I've heard conflicting reports.

One side says you just have to create the invention idea. others say you have to use the actual resources and create it.

Is Spheda sometimes impossible?

I've had instances where I'm given 5 shots and I can do it easily in two and others where I'm given two shots and although the ball is technically super close to the hole, there's a wall inbetween and the only way to get it there is to take the scenic route via the other side of the map.

Working on the star paths now. Had to grind a bit because I had the wrong weapon path for MAX. Wanted to make sure I got the best wrench. Now I have everybody up to the level where you need to kill specific enemies to level up.

I was loving the hell out of this game, but when i got to
the volcanoish area
I kind of lost steam. I'm really worried about missing photos and getting medals for the platinum. I really don't know why I care so much about something as stupid as trophies, but I think it's ruining the game for me lol.

This is probably a strange request but I'm asking it anyway:
Does anyone know the best strategy guide, either online with pictures or some physical copy, for this game at this point? Having a physical hard copy of the strategy guide was super useful when playing this game on the PS2 due to all the pictures you had to take for all those various reasons, plus the inventions, plus the secrets, and so on. Going to an all text version on GameFAQS will not cut it since it will be too hard to keep track of everything, plus all the visual cues are lost.

Getting a used paperback copy of Amazon is out of the question due to price.

Suggestions?

This is basically exactly how I feel about it right now trying it for the first time, except for your last line because I basically feel the exact opposite there lol.

I watched a stream of this and instantly bought it along with Rogue Galaxy. I played it many years a go but never finished it. Forgot how much charm it had and loving how relaxed it is. Perfect game to play at the end of a long day.

Loving these PS2 classics.

I finished the game (again...for the third time) over the weekend and I'm half way through Chapter 8. Forgot how brutal the post game dungeon is. Enemies with thousands of health that can one or two shot you...good stuff.

Congrats! The trophy requirement of needing to get all of the Medals is absolutely bonkers. Trying to get as many medals as possible in the first 4 dungeons burnt me out hardcore, but I'll definitely be back to continue with the game. I love Georama too much not to.

So I played this back when it released until the second town I think, then got distracted by something else, so I thought it would be cool to try this again. Just started, this clown is crazy!

Nearing the end of the final story dungeon. Really excited to beat the game after having gotten stuck on the final bosses during the PS2 era. I'm really prepped now and honestly don't expect much trouble.

I will say though, my Grade Zero has quite a chunk of points on it that carried over and gained from early levels. Should I spend my points upgrading it's weaker stats?

Played this briefly at a friends back in the day. The only think that's hurting my experience is the trophies they picked.

Having to check quest.guideevery chapter - and even then checking a general FAQ for exactly how to get it - is getting extremely old. But I want that stupid DC2 platinum to go with my DC1 platinum. Whoever thinks missable trophies in long-ish games is "good" needs to be slapped.

Is there any reason to not just use one main character and put all of my synthesis stuff into one main character? I'm only in the forest dungeon right now but it kinda seems like it'd be better to just use one person so all my items make a single weapon stronger rather than have two weaker weapons.

There are a few dungeon areas which seal off one of your characters. The only way to break the seal is to finish that area or use a seal breaking scroll.
