Dark Souls 2 E3 2013 Trailer

I'm very hyped.

That boss with the mirror shield is the most exciting part for me; I'm hoping it's something like the Old Monk from Demon's Souls.

There's something terribly off with some of these new walking animations.
And that's something I noticed even with the first gameplay video.
I wouldn't be surprised. Have you seen the Dark Souls fat running animation? It looks like you're skipping.

Love the look of that boss. And I hope as someone said, that it works like the Old Monk fight. Music doesn't bother me that much. It's pretty similar to the music used in the first game's trailers.

Any idea what platform this was running on? I know it appeared during MS press conference, but did they say it was running on the 360?

I'm watching the door breaking scene with alot of anticipation; we can break down doors to...oh wait, asshole enemies will do that to get at us! PRAISE THE SUN.

dat shitty skyrim gamers music

So I guess this is the direction Namco is going to take for their 'guns blazing' AAA marketing. Trailer was shit, mainly because of the music and direction.

Looking forward to seeing some gameplay demos of it though.

Their trailer music has gone down from its peak very badly. The Bartholemew one was particularly bad.

i swear i thought i saw a chain attack.. the guy was attacking one enemy (there was three of them) then after attacking the first, the guy moved smoothly to the second enemy.

maybe not.. will have to rewatch

There are technically "chain attacks" in DS already. Pretty sure it was just an example of changing the character's orientation mid-attack with no lock-on.

We won't know little details like this until we see some more proper gameplay. For now, just get hype.

The animations look like a slight downgrade from OG Dark Souls (especially the one-handed greatsword). Did they remake the animations from scratch? Hopefully this is just because the game is still in development....

Everything else looks great though. Especially that boss. Gotdamn.

Into my veins. Finally decided to give the souls series a shot this year and I am a absolutely hooked. This might actually be my most anticipated game right now

Shit music but damn it looks fine. Really digging the massive improvement in the animation as well as the big graphical leap from the original Dark Souls.

Is it crazy that as a high-end PC gamer with all these next-gen games coming that I'm most excited for this?

I wish they had shown more. Some more gameplay would have been really nice. Some story info would be awesome to.

A low end Bone game but a Bone game nonetheless. Looks better than Dead Rising 3, for instance, at the very least.

lol, really? Man, I fucking love the souls games but you're crazy if you think DS2 looks better than the open world of D3.

I guess this is what happens when marketing decides to go "balls-deep, guns blazing".

Game still looks amazing though.

I don't know probably it is just my paranoia or maybe I am overly pessimistic but that trailer gave me more of a Dark Souls arcade/light vibe. Like a Action-RPG played on hard but not a true Dark Souls successor.

Thought of a sick new feature that adds accessibility for new players.

People who have completed the game can ascend to be spirit guides.
What this means is that, when a new player starts the game, they can indicate that they want to go in with some guidance because it's their first time.
They will then be paired up with a spirit guide.
Spirit guides will get notifications when the person whom they are guiding is online and they can enter the world as a spirit.
The spirit guides can do things like point where to go, cheer on the player in a morale boost sort of way, or, when the guided player is in deep trouble, the player can send up a signal, then the spirit guide will see it in their notifications, can hop in, and they can help the guided player ward off enemies.

Would be cool.

Some impressions of the E3 build. Just talking, no new footage.

Some points:
*Backstabs not as easy?
*No more kick. Up + Action = shoulder tackle (similar function)
*Sunstone is a consumable healing item, but a slow regen rather than a quick heal like grass or estus
*Seemingly more forgiving in terms of bonfire placement. Might just be a demo thing, but some are quite close together.

Backstabbing will make a return in Dark Souls 2, but in a slightly different form. In the case of the Warrior character, executing a backstab with his short sword performed a three-hit animation: a hilt bash followed by two slashes to the back. Rather than stabbing through the torso of an enemy, backstabs will results in attacks with weapon-specific flourishes.

According to a Namco rep, players may accidentally "whiff" a backstab if they're within range, but not at a distance close enough to execute. A short sword backstab attempt may miss on the first part of the three-part attack, we were told, leaving the backstabber open to an attack — something we weren't able to witness firsthand during a hands-on demo.

But the changes to backstabs appear to be a move from the developer to reduce players' reliance on backstabs, which are easy to execute, carry little risk and yield high damage in the first Dark Souls.

Still not a fan of the greatsword animations. They look a little floaty to me but other than that and the music, I liked it especially that boss at the end.

So I'm not the only one who got that impression.
Something is definitely off with some of them.

I noticed it during the first demo. The way he moved was way off. As soon as he started going down the stairs, I noticed it. Still, won't stop me from enjoying it, it's just too bad.

That sounds incredible. Love weapon-specific animations.

Any word yet on if this ties into DS1 at all? I haven't been keeping up. I'd be disappointed if it didn't. DS1 left me with more questions than 5 seasons of LOST.

Demo boss spoilers discussed in video:
That boss sounds awesome! And if it's the game's first boss it kind of reminds me of how they took an asshole-ish boss in DeS (Maneaters) and made a similar first boss in DaS (Gargoyles)

Those screenshots in the polygon article are STUNNING too. The lighting and design is just a whole other step up from DS1 I think it's looking astounding. *faint*

Wow, the boss he talked about in that video sounded really cool.

So many good games at E3! And I already have a massive backlog and games that are already out, that I don't own but want to play. And I'll be starting a Ph.D. soon. Fuck

I can't wait for this game, even though the first made me extremely angry, made me rage to the point where I said words I didn't even know existed, ruined a couple of my controllers, and make me break down and cry, the accomplishment I felt when beating the game multiple times was unimaginable. Fun times.
