DARK SOULS Gameplay Footage (PSX 2015)

There absolutely is no widely agreed upon consensus.

In fact, I'm pretty sure the consensus is mostly "the one I played first is the best."

The most bitter divide is whether Dark 2 is the best or the worst of the series.

At this point, having seen this topic hashed out on GAF so many times, can see why someone would prefer any of the four so far; they all have little unique quirks that make them the best at one thing and the worst at another. I've been considering writing up a big collection of these pros and cons actually.

Personally I love them all, including Dark 2, while being team Dark Souls 1 is the GOAT.

I don't want to spoil myself, so I'll ask all of you instead: any signs of poise making a return? It was conspicuously missing in the network test.

Yes, and the armored character isn't rolling as fast as it was in the network test and previous footage.

As with every Souls game, day one it will be mine. Amazing how I haven't tired of these games in the slightest. The best formula in game design at the moment, and perhaps of all time.

Got a lot of Bloodborne vibes from this. The opening wide shot of the city looked like a different part of Yharnam. Looks fantastic can't wait.

Those body proportions are truly awful.
They can model monsters and armors so well, but when it comes to humans looking like humans... yikes.

Pretty the sure the divide over Dark Souls 2 isn't whether it's the best souls game or not, but rather if it's a shit game or not.

I'm seeing some DS2 design philosophies here which is concerning. Boss minions, bringing back old weapons. I love the Murakumo so much as the last person just hope they have tons of new weapons that are super satisfying. It's still very impressive how much this surprised me. Almost wished I handn't seen this, but that's my fault.

This still looks fantastic overall. I'm just cautiously optimistic for it.

Are we just listing random series elements as "Dark Souls 2" now? The series has brought back weapons in every entry, and with the DLC included DS2 probably has the highest amount of entirely original weapons in the series. Not counting the tutorial one, if you do things in order literally the first two bosses in Demon's Souls are minion bosses.

It's unfair to say "shit game" because it's always said in a very specific and restricted context. For pretty much every people who say this, if you removed the other 3 games out of the equation, DS2 would skyrocket to "best game ever". It's a reaction said in a bubble, that has no global meaning.

That said, I agree that people usually rank first their first "souls" game. I think the first few times you experience that rewarding feeling as something new, automatically grants a few bonus points to the game in your book.

Glad to see the best version is coming out same day as consoles, playing soul games at 30fps is a big no no.

Let's not forget when you play this on PC, 4k @100fps on 144Hz monitor with mods...

Yeah.

You should stream DS3 on Twitch like you did for BB :D
Oh this time I've actually got the right tools for it including 100/100 Internet (for BB, I was streaming with 8/8 lol)

It looks good but not as good as Bloodborne. To be fair From had help from Japan Studio when developing Bloodborne.

Not that the technical aspect of the graphics matter a ton when it comes to souls games. At least for me. They've always been a bit subpar in that department (but with a great style)

You'd be surprised then! There are three camps, all very sure of themselves. 1) DS2 is unplayable shit. 2) DS2 is good, but not as good as the others. 3) DS2 is the best game in the series.

I've seen all three camps argue at length here.

(I'm in camp two! Love it enough to platinum it, tho.)

To be fair, so did DS2 in early footage.

Got burned pre-ordering that game, waiting until this one is out before I believe any of the hype.

DS2 trailer looked quite impressive compared to DS1. The footage in the DS3 demo on the other hand does not look very ambitious at all (tech-wise). It would be rather baffling if they couldn't meet that for the GA release.

For the record I don't care at all. Gameplay, environment and enemy design is 10x more important.

Boss minions have been on both Demons's (King of Storms, Maiden Astraea, tower Knight) and Dark Soul's (Gravelord Nito)

YESSSSSSSSSS!

I'm so SO ready to return to Dark Souls after Bloodborne disappointed me.

Same here. Even though BB was an awesome game (and I'm still enjoying it) it just didn't quite match up to the Souls games for me (well, more like it didn't match DS1 and DS2, it was way better than Demon's). It didn't help at all that I'm not big on Lovecraft at all so the story twist/reveal left me feeling cold. Also, having to deal with PS4 limitations after the glory that is 60 FPS and amazing texture IQ sucked.
