Dark Souls Lore Book

Now that Dark Souls III has marinated for awhile, and since it is supposed to be the final entry in the series, I would love to have a physical book with all the lore and strongly accepted theories about that world.

The more I dive into videos and wikis the more I am fascinated by the mythology and storytelling cornerstones of those games.

Would love to, but i don't think it will happen ever. Miyazaki once said that he wants the players to interpret the games and it's lore in their own way. The close you can get are the Design Works artbooks that contains a bit of extra lore.

Maybe a Kickstarter? Like that board game.

Have people been able to figure out how Dark Souls 3's lore fits into all of it? Dark Souls 1 felt solid with only a few things up to interpretation, but ds3 felt like the opposite.

I'd drop 100 bucks for an in-depth, extensive, illustration-heavy lore book on Bloodborne.

GRANT US EYES, MIYAZAKI.

Dark Souls lore is fairly straightforward in comparison, I feel. DSIII throws a few curveballs, but most of it seems to be pretty understandable. Well except the Painted world of Ariandel, I guess. But still, I'd love to read a novel or lore book on Dark Souls as well, so much cool stuff happening in those games.

Illustrations would have to be mandatory of course :)

Nope.

If there's gonna be a lore book, I'd want it writtem by FROM themselves. There's plenty of shitty baseless Dark Souls lore about the internet.

I was assuming from the beginning that, as long as Miyazaki is President of FROM, we are not getting that.

I would happily settle with a quality Kickstarter product.

What we need is an explanation of Bloodborne's ending. Wtf was that.

I'm convinced the whole Soulsborn series is an elaborate troll.

I think so? Pretty much, at least.

Off the top of my head the only major plot thread left to be wrapped up in DS3 is Sable Church/Londor and it's like a 90% certainty that DLC2 will deal with that. There are explanations (or interpretations, whether you like them or not) for pretty much everything else...although I am probably forgetting something.

Edit: I would both love and hate a Souls (or Bloodborne) lore book. It'd be a fantastic read and lots of fun...but my theories might be shot down in flames. The story/design philosophy of Soulsborne games is much more about having a complete story with a chapter here or there missing, as opposed to stories that try to be deliberately mysterious and convoluted.

There's a great fanmade comic called 'Lordran and Beyond' that expands on the stories of the Soulsborne characters. You should check that out if you're interested.

I've always felt like the absurdly literal fan theories have missed the point a bit, so I'm not sure I'd be interested in a book about those. A compendium of all the official stuff - a physical book with all of the item descriptions or something - would be lovely though.

In the meantime those Design Works releases for I and II are full of insight, intended design, lore, etc. Basically bestiary's in some cases. There are ten to fifteen pages of intereviews in the back of each giving exactly what you're looking for- the designers say bluntly exactly what the background of each creature and how its tied to the world, the stories, the small myths, etc.

As a huge fan of their artwork and mythmaking, I absolutely love the tomes.

is there a bloodborne equivalent?

Yes! Coming in May. I made a thread about it with a tiny bit of info. Its paperback though.

Because of your link, I just learned that Future Press is releasing a book about the development of The Last Guardian. Holy cow how did I not know about this!

The Bloodborne book looks great too, but it's $36! Ouch. Still might buy it though lol

In my headlore, all Dark Souls games take place inside a shared dream by Great Ones from Bloodborne.
