Hey finally (just post first boss),
a ladder to kick after the dragon! Yaaaay.
So satisfying to make progress through a open world this way.

In case you feel like going back and killing it.
The hydra's easy to kill if you want to kill him. Just run with your shield up and stand in front of it in the water. (Not to close as the ground extends to a few feet into the water and if you step beyond that you'll fall and die. The hydra will stop shooting and will start attacking with heads. Block and you won't take any damage. Then hack away.

I think going human-form increases the chances of item drop rates.
 
Was there a part 2 to the Soundtrack up now? Is there even supposed to be one? When I redeemed my code on Saturday I downloaded a "soundtrack part 1".

MIne had a plastic sleeve with the game specs like on most normal cases so people could read them on the shelf. THe sleeve was attached to the black metal box with AWESOME artwork on both sides by these annoying sticky things that Zoe claimes are best cleaned up using the sticker dab method...proabably wise advice as it took me a half hour to clean mine using alcholo gel and soap and water.

inside the box is an art book, credit card with password on it (nice card to keep in your wallet just for kicks!) and the plastic wrapped game. Anyone wanting to by the game now and get CE later can easily substitute the game part from the CE part and just sell the new disc when your CE finally arrives.
 
there's no way to fast travel between bonfires? i beat the first 'real' boss, get the divine ember and the watchtower key, do i need to run all the way back to the watchtower or am i missing something

And now it says my code has expired only a few hours after using it.

It'll probably be better to wait until someone else uploads the CE content to some archives or something.

And increases curse resistance. Save those humanity sprites. You'll be glad you did for a later part in the game.

I meant the shipping packaging/box it was mailed in, sorry for not clarifying.

No ones dropping soul signs:( I want to co op with some peeps.

Had 1 good co op session with this barbarian I believe, dude had a 2 handed sword and was demolishing the knights with capes. We went into a cathedral and there were like 4 of em. We killed em but then had to go upstairs and he died:(

I couldn't even get in. Entered all my info and then my browser crashed. Now it won't accept my code anymore.
 
Did they change the way parrying works or am I doing something wrong? L2 is like a really slow shield bash, and even if I manage to get the timing right, I can't follow up with the counter attack.

The biggest reason is that you need to be human to kindle a bonfire and receive 10 Estus flasks from it.

But it also increases the item drop rate and allows you to summon help (conversely it leaves you open to invasion too).

It seems like it's probably a waste of Humanity to go human without a bonfire nearby and an extra Humanity point to kindle it.
 
After 5hrs, my wife had to pull me away. I got to the
red demon thing
on top of the tower. He rocked me.

So far, same as with Demon's Souls. Not sure if I like it... but I can't put the controller down.
 
The guide… it's beautiful.

I also think the game looks better but the framerate is quite bad. I don't usually notice but I can tell in this game.

Still in the undead burg and it feels easier than demons souls. I played through most of demons souls without a shield and warrior definitely makes the start of this game easy. The shield is quite good :)
 
So either i am just absolute shit or the game is VERY vague on what the hell youre supposed to do. I am in the first town and i am essentially trapped. Go up, skeleton rape. Go down ghost rape. Hell i cant even DAMAGE the damned ghosts. so do i just get better and beat the skeletons or what?

There are ghosts and skeletons in the first town? This is very different than my first town.

I had the same thing for a few hours. There is another route you are supposed to take directly from the area with the fire, big stairway up to a bridge with lots of human opponents. That's where you're supposed to go.

He did the same thing I did, mistakenly *descended* instead of heading to the town from the campfire.

The timing is different, but the motions are the same. Just practice with the initial enemies.

When can you get arrows? I have a bow but zero arrows. Is there a merchant before this point?
 
What the FUCK NAMCO!!??

I was downloading the CE stuff from the website and my router connection dropped, canceling the downloads, now when I try to restart them, I got a message saying the code had already been redeemed and I cannot download anything.
This is bullshit, wonder who I can write to to complain. Everyone else be CAREFUL!!

Goddamit thats why you don't do one time only download codes, fuck I'm pretty heated, if you can't tell from this.

Just wanted to warn everyone!

get the NPC warrior of the suncrest to help you, i'm not sure how exactly to activate it though.
if you intend to solo it. 2 handed, kill the first one as fast as possible (2nd one also comes down at about 2/5 health of first one, remember to cut off it's tail first to get a weapon.

yes there is
its in the nearby bondfire where the 3 dudes throws explosives are you. It is also before the first boss

My thief is currently at level 16 with a couple souls in my inventory, I'm itching to use some of these souls to level up. I'm guessing the Lost Undead souls and Nameless soldier ones are safe to use without getting screwed over for potential spells/items in the future, yes/no?

My current soul items:

Soul of a Lost Undead (9)
Large Soul of a Lost Undead (5)
Soul of a Nameless Soldier (2)
Large Soul of a Nameless Soldier (1)
Soul of a Proud Knight(1)
Fire Keeper Soul (1) *I have a feeling I better save this

Or should I just keep on grinding and save these for when I'd really need it?

I'm one faith point short to be able to use
Astora's Straight
sword.

from the bonfire, take a right turn down the stairs, then take a left turn towards the 2 lance skeletons, look for crates, destroy them to reveal a stairway down. once down take the left exit. merchant sitting there, dont hit him by mistake.

Still not totally clear on the advantages of spending humanity on going back into human form.

you need to be in human form to kindle a bonfire, so if you managed to stay in human you can save some humanity. being in human also increase your resistance against curse, you can summon other players to help you.

drop anything? We killed each other simultaneously and when I returned to the spot of the fight there wasn't anything there.
 
So, this game looks excellent.

What's the playtime like? For a quick run-through? For 100%?

Shorter is better. The only reason I would avoid this game is because it would take up too much time.
