2~3 hours in, Undead Parish

who else got trolled by the
undead sorcerer sniper? I managed to get rid of the 3 undead knights and the big ass knight... then creeped in slowly towards the item behind him, looking left and right, then ... *schling~~~* soul arrow in the back! Dead! FFFFUUUU

and also i been exploting the
red dragon
on the bridge to get souls, got like 10,000 lol,its pretty quick distance in between the bridge and bonfire once you get the shortcut with the ladder.

can you go into a bit more detail about this? ive tried it it doesnt work form.

Ive read that you climb up to the tower where the big knight was but i cant see ANYTHING of the red dragon. how did you do it?

Oh wow, I literally just found a pyro spell in this area made by sadistic assholes.
Sounds like it super buffs strenth and endurance but drains HP.

Wait, wait, wait. Izayoi. Did you die because a message said to go right, and you went right and fought two undead enemies in a squarish open area killed you?

Can I save with my stain somewhere, or will it go away if I quit?

Yeah, the pike guys.

No problem with sword dudes, but the pike guys wrecked me.

I'm just terrible, aren't I? ;_;

Question, when you die, then die again, do the souls from the first death dissapear?

yes

don't die a second time without grabbing your bloodstain first

you can generally pull it off, since the second time you approach the same area you'll know about whatever it was that killed you

Has anyone been able to invade? I used two cracked eye orbs and got "failed to invade" both times, and since it's a consumable item in this game they are gone for good even though they didn't work. I also put down a bunch of soul markers but haven't been summoned, and I haven't seen a single soul sign to invite someone to my game. What gives?

Also, does anyone know what enemies give you humanity for killing them? I noticed a few times I had one or two humanity points but I didn't see what enemies I got them from.

LOL This is why the -1 rate option is nice now :D

it's messed up though, if a message is already at 0 and you -1, I think it actually goes to +1, at least it did the one time i tried it

That wasn't griefing. There's a merchant down the stairs there (stairs are hidden by barrels). In fact, just yesterday I put a message like that right there! It could be mine, or I could have been someone else who had the same thought.

It makes me kinda happy to think that I might have killed you! ^_^

the thing you learn playing this game is that it's not enough to look left and right, you always have to look up and down too

Whats the consensus on the best (easiest) class to start with? Once I am out of the opening area and at the camp fire with the silver dude which direction is best to head in?
Skeletons kick the fuck out of me at this stage, and the other option is a big ass staircase that leads to a burg. I got as far as a big demon on the top of a walkway, am I heading in the right direction?

If it makes you feel better, unlike the ones with the swords, the ones with the spears don't run, so if you want to skip them, you can just run past.

Izayoi, first Souls game?

It takes a while to click. Took me three hours of banging my head against the wall in Demon's Souls to "get" the game. I was dying to stupid crap and not adapting to new enemies.

Now, it's like second nature. Some people need a grace period. Just play the first area (not tutorial, the place where you died) over and over. It's got a nice variety of enemies and some of the most annoying ones in the whole game (firebomb throwers). If you can make it through that you'll be ready for more.

As in no there's nothing more besides the door or no its not worth it. I hear talk of a
wolf boss
in the area.

Go to the right beside the door and there's is some enemies and fog that you can go into. There's also a huge canyon area with a new level if you take the path off to the left up a grade as you run back toward where you entered the forest area. There's some pretty good armor and a bunch of other stuff down in the canyon area.

that's not a troll, that's where the merchant is

No matter how many times I try, I can't beat the pike guys. What am I doing wrong?

I've just come to terms with the fact that I'm always going to have zero souls at this point. Always die before getting back to my stain. Maybe I'll stumble across a decent grinding spot at some point but fuck.

yes, make sure to get the bonfire in undead burg

these guys are hardcore turtlers! The best strategy if to strike its shield once, then wait for its counter attack, this can be strafe easily with your shield up. Backstab away

You actually should go that way. If you got problem with the pike guys I'd recommend going a bit straight first as there's a bonfire close by, then go back.

Too be fair, while I can kill the pike guys, I haven't really found a clear way to do it. Usually I just use jump attacks as that seems somewhat effective with my bandit, even if they're blocking. Does kicking work to break their guard?

About the squarish area:
After you kill the pike guys, break some boxes there. There are hidden stairs that lead to a room with a zombie and an npc outside.

QisTopTier said:
Forward and R1 to do a kick, use that to break their guard when they try to attack.

Alternatively he can also try attacking them when they have to shield up to lure them into making a thrust attack. The attack animation is so slow that it's incredibly easy to dodge around it in an open area and get attacks in right after.

Or... when in doubt, throw a firebomb! :D

That fucking
wizard in the Undead Parish
is pissing me off.

I hope he never spawns again.

You mean the guy
in the church? Tip go up the stairs and defeat the knight, then lure those 8 skeletons down and throw some firebombs to dispatch them quickly. I would suggest melee'ing the wizard, since he's got very predictable melee moves that you can block easily. He goes down after a couple of hits

Alternatively, blocking their attack and then attacking them while they're open has always worked for me. (sometimes they just stand there and don't do anything though which is annoying)

I think you need a certain amount of strength to be able to use the kick effectively. Low strength does jack shit to the shield.

Good thing he doesn't respawn. I knew he would be a miniboss.

Shouldn't of activated the shortcut to the shrine and used the bonfire. Now I have to clear the
church
again so I have some room to breath.

Oh God. I'm stuck on the Gargoyles. Flashbacks to Maneater. I don't like this :(((

if you revive to human form, you can summon an NPC helper at that boss, assuming you talked to him previously

Guess i'll be the guy to make it since it was pretty helpful with Demon's Souls.

Do people have to be on your friends list to be invited to PSN chat rooms?

Is anyone else unable to get co-op to work? I put down my soul sign all the time, and the few times that I've actually started to be summoned (it doesn't happen often :( ) it eventually just says "failed to create session". The same thing happens while I'm alive and I try to summon people.

I just want to have some jolly cooperation :(

Is there any way I can fix this?
Because of the nature of P2P, you will have to open your ports for your PS3, or set it in DMZ mode.

Use humanity to go human. Then summon the white phantom at the door!
(try to use firebombs/pyro spells
