I just got invaded by someone. They were wearing ring of fog. I wailed on him with my Enchanted Falchion +5 and he was locked in an endless combo he could not escape from. You guys still think ring of fog screws over casters?

Yup. That guy was really bad.

I'm struggling with the final boss. At least FromSoftware saved the best for last. :)

i used a pile of rocks to help keep him separated from me ...it typically works pretty well and gives u enough time to heal with potions anyway, which i found absolutely necessary.

without using the rocks as somewhat of a shield, he was relentless in his attack and gave hardly any time for me to heal.

so use those piles of rocks to your advantage. they are located right around the spot when you first enter the cloudy door.

Downing Smough, not a problem. The only problem comes afterward. Using a fire resin adds literally 9 damage to my hits. I only have a couple +10, a Divien and a Lightning Weapon at my disposal. Nothing keened in on Ornstein's weakness.

Edit: It's the
Lightning thrust
that's getting me. I dodge away, to the left or right... hell, I rolled under him a couple times and it still snatched me up.

Rolling towards him should be able to avoid it. It did for me 100% of the time and I fought him... A LOT.

You can either go to the hole in the wall by the covenant that leads to another bonfire in Demon Ruins and do the boss right there or you can get out of the lair, take the waterwheel up and go to valley of the drakes and back to firelink so you can do whichever zone you haven't done (Forest?) or continue with the main quest: Sen's Fortress.

So how do I get to this forest? I have heard about it but have no clue where it is located...

Read this only if you've beat the game!

So I just beat the game after 45 hours, and all I got was a 4 second ending? Is there really nothing more to it than that? I mean the intro video was awesome and had an intriguing plot, and all they could come up with was an ending that lasts 4 seconds? I did read about another ending that happens if you leave instead of lighting the bonfire, but can there only be two endings that are both probably less in length than the intro? I want to see what fucking happens to the land and people at least.

Man wtf....... I know the games aren't supposed to be huge in the story department, but after all the shit I had to do to light the lordvessel and kill Lord G, the least they could give us was an explanation of what happens to everyone. I really hope there's an ACTUAL ending that shows more....

I'm sure this has been brought up, but I haven't looked in this thread since I bought the game.

apparently the evil ending is supposed to be the real ending

I'm going to have to check it out then, I didn't hear much other than the fact that it was a little better than the one I did.

it certainly is, i got the same ending as you and i feel empty after seeing it

I went at him raw. With 20 pots of Estus and in human form. Took a long while and had some close calls, but I brute tanked the shit out of him like a boss.

Super good final boss though. End credits song is also top notch, as was the final boss music theme. I'm also a bit sad there wasn't an epic dungeon for the area the final boss was since when you first gaze on it it looks so damn awesome and I wasn't even sweating one more dungeon crawl, but alas it wasn't meant to be. :(

The ending itself though leaves a LOT to be desired. I wasn't expecting anything oscar worthy, but what you get is a joke. It also pains me people are reviewing this game and giving it 8.5's (game trailers) for story. What story? There's some bits of lore, and a few NPCs, and the intro cut scene, but that's it. There is no story really. Which is a shame given how rich the world they created is and how perfect the atmosphere of it all is.

Overall I'd say the game is a solid 8, but I'd rate Demon's Souls a 9. Dark Souls felt like it overstayed its welcome at times, and could have focused more like Demon's did in fewer areas/bosses, but making them extremely polished and shine. Plus this game has plenty of flaws from glitches, to online issues, to an issue myself and others have experience where the controls basically lock up. i.e you are holding your shield, press to attack or press to heal, but nothing happens. At this point you can move, but the second you hit L1 for shield again it will execute that command and it'll be as delayed as long as it took you to hit L1 for shield. This can happen at any given moment, and sometimes might not happen for a while, but rest assured if it happens on a boss, it will lead to your death. :(

Other issues with the game are camera, horrible bow in first person mode as you'll have 30 feet of clear room, and then it gets caught on air for your arrow, positioning of bonfires, newer players aren't going to be explained jack shit(doesn't effect me, but it makes recommending the game a lot harder), and plenty of other shit.

This game is great, and coming into it I thought it would take the spot of GOTY for me from The Witcher 2, but it didn't come close. Still excited for the next Souls game. :)

4 kings can suck it. I swear to god me and a phantom killed one before he died. 1 minute later as i am slowly getting slaughtered, I turn/run and SEE 4 OF THEM. WTF. Do they respawn? or is their name a goddam lie!

I really loved the game honestly, but it can't be denied that it had a lot of problems. My huge gripes were random bugs (though the game takes like 20 minutes to load up on my PS3 because somethings wrong with the HD I think) like falling through the floor, and huge delays in button commands. I also didn't like the fact that enemies have fucking homing attacks and rolling doesn't prevent them from hitting you.

The ending really left a damper on my experience though. I didn't feel anything like this after I beat Demon's Souls, mainly cause they really didn't explain shit in the game. This, on the other hand, could have had an excellent ending if they actually tried. That is, unless there's a 3rd secret ending.

I really liked the game though, much more than Demon's Souls. It sort of felt like a Zelda game, but without the tools that Link gets, and a LOT harder. Hopefully, if they make another game, they put some more effort into the story. A land this epic should not lack a story like these games do.

Lol, not sure about them respawning, but I had huge success with two handing my FurySword. They went down before two or more could spawn together.

They can respawn, the health doesn't come back though.

Just killed
Seath on first try. The game made it sound like he was blind, so I equipped the ring that silences your footsteps and sure enough, he spent the whole fight fumbling around aimlessly.
Also, for those wandering what happens if you decide to attack Princess Gwynevere,
you probably shouldn't. It plunges all of Andor Londo into night, and clears the area out of monsters except the silver knights and some new angry dudes. However, Gwyndolyn pretty much outright said I get to be a priority target for the Blades of Darkmoon now, and the fireplace lady become aggressive. Worst part is that I think I lost both warp points into Andor Londo now. Fortunately, I'm done there, so no serious damage done. Now you don't have to try it yourselves. XD

It's strange I felt Demon's Souls was much closer to my idea of a hardcore Zelda. You had your levels fit to the boss' theme. Not fire level = fire boss, but still in the same vein. In Dark Souls bosses got tossed into areas that made me scratch my head, like Fire Sage was just tossed in I felt. You had already fought this, but now he had a color skin swap basically, and he just appears cuz.

Killed ceaseless discharge, after the third attempt. Not a very well thought out gimmick.

Now, should i press into Demon's Ruins or go to New lando?

Iron Flesh + 2hand wield of a strong weapon = Success.

Demons are a race while most bosses are weird abominations, so naturally you get "repeats".

Regarding
Seath
, I thought about that too, and even though I didn't equip the ring, I was standing in the safe spot right in front of him, doing absolutely nothing and he just kept spamming that one attack that fills the entire room. How am I supposed to damage him? I can't even reach the dude. Guess I gotta try the ring tomorrow.

Finally took down
Seath
. Though it took me and two other sunbros to do it.

Now...could someone explain the part
beyond the door in the forest
to me? I've been avoiding that part for basically the entire game because I'm not too clear on how it works. And now I'm probably vastly overleveled for it, too. :lol

Anyone use the Stone Giant or Havel Set? The stats are nice, but its so damn heavy. I've been farming green titanite shards in the swamp for a long time and leaving my ss down. Every host that summoned me dies to either the boss, or the rock tossing guys. Quelaag isn't that hard.

Alright..25 hours in...finally found my first gamebreaking framerate drop section. The black cats. Oh my god. (have yet to go to Blight and I rang the first bell like 16 hours ago)

Those that use the Iato - what path did you take when upgrading? I currently have mine up to +10, but don't have any further upgrade options available

Yeah, I agree about that, I was like "I already fought this guy 3 times..." but I guess more along the lines of how Dark Souls is an open world, while Demon's Souls was more like Mario 64 with the Nexus and all.

When you get to the Anor Lando blacksmith, turn it into a Lightning Iaito and upgrade that. You won't regret it.

15 hours in and things were going so well... until I got cursed.

So I was going through
blight town
and stumbled upon the
the great hollow
and decided to check it out. I ran into those damned frogs and got cursed. I'd seen them in the sewers, but assumed they made poison clouds...

Anyway, I was looking up how to cure the curse and it seems like the only way is a
purging stone.
But going all the way out back to a merchant sounded like a real pain (especially with
50% health
. I also read that the
ring of sacrifice would cure the curse if you died with it on
and that seemed like a better alternative. Anyway, I let my self die, the ring broke, and I'm still cursed...

I swear, this game...

My memory of Demon's Souls is not fresh, but I can't recall repeat bosses in it, but maybe someone can correct me if there was.

There's no reason you should fight the same boss 3 times, unless it's well done where how you need to defeat them changes or something to challenge you. The Fire Sage 3 encounters were the same with you just going to its left until you see the breath attack, then whack it's ass. avoid butt smash, repeat. Doing that 3 times is meh.

I only equip a few pieces of Havel's armor to complement my gear, sometimes I will have the gauntlets on with Gold Hemmed gear for the rest, or sometimes his helm as well. But I never use the whole set, can't stand the fat roll, and I am not willing to give up my heavy shield and heavy axe to accommodate the armor.

Where does the Pyromancer trainer go when he is not at Firelink Shrine, I got the Pyromancy glove to +15, but I only have two spells, and they are 2 slot spells, I would rather use a 1 slot spell so I don't have to wear an attunement slot ring.

I guess you took the elevator up to him right? You don't fight him there, you have to find the way to go outside the building and into the Crystal Caves.

There is a "Ring of Sacrifice" and a "Rare Ring of Sacrifice", you had the former, you needed the latter. That area is garbage anyway, I would just leave tbh.

You read bad advice.

Now that you're cursed you could go to
New Londo Ruins
if you're up to it. Probably won't be easy at your level, but the NPC that cures curse is there.

Or you could just pay the undead merchant in the sewer shortcut 6000 souls.

I upgraded mine into a Chaos Blade, using
Queelag's
soul. Kinda regret it, though. I could only upgrade it to +3 because I had a small number of demon titanite (I think that's it) and it doesn't do as much damage as the fully upgraded Iaito did.

No way =O I thought about that as soon as I saw the
huge crystal formations
outside (I thought I was gonna end up being able to do a plunging attack on him or something) but when I entered the place, it showed a new location name and I just didn't bother. Gotta do that tomorrow, then. Thanks!

So, the fact that you end up in a cell when you lose the fight doesn't just mean you would turn into one of his experiments (which I thought was an amazing little detail); it also means "you're doing it wrong" =P

Why is invading so much worse in this game?

Where can I get more cracked red eye items to try some more? I don't understand why it's not infinite use. :(

I can see what they were trying to do with the new restrictions (new areas only, no healing for invaders), but it just makes it so much worse.

Well, if he goes further he can get to
Ash Lake where the crabs drop Purging Stones like candy.
They are pretty tough though, and there is a
Hydra
you have to fight or try to run by.

The Depths is an awesome area. One of the few places I've gone through in a game that felt freaky the first time through.

No item healing is much better. When you invade it's on you to be the aggressor. And I'm pretty sure it's always been new areas only. You couldn't be invaded in a stage where you already beat the boss in Demon's Souls.

If/When they start on Dark Souls 2, they really need to drops the whole Demon's Souls way of player interaction, summoning, invading etc and expand way more on the Covenants. I really think they have to try something else for later sequels.

Quelanna is in the swamp and is the 2nd pryomancer you run into. She teaches all the spells that Laurentis has plus some more.

So earlier today I was called upon by my covenant to assassinate a sinful player who was grinding in the Darkroot Forest (
my covenant being Blade of the Darkmoon despite that location
).

The dude dropped 200,000 souls when I won.

Was laughing so hard.
I was able to level up six times at my soul level

They first need to fire whoever let the frame rate drop to 1 digit figure in some sections. On that point, any word from the devs about that? I can't believe it's just the engine being stressed. It has to be some sort of bug cos it's too bad.

Level 29 and getting summoned every 10 min by putting my sign in front of capra demon. You get 1 humanity and 600 souls every kill...

Basically nothing.

But you will be rewarded with total consciousness because of your good deeds.

More character mobility would be great. Get them playing Assassin's Creed for a while and add some of the basic parkour stuff to make getting around more interesting. Add more variety to the parry/riposte menu and add dismemberment while they are at it.

I am not sure what engine they use but for Dark Souls 2, it had better be a marked improvement.

They should also play/check out WoW and start having bosses with more interesting phases of combat, especially when you have more than 1 player.

Just my own thoughts though. Still in Tokyo and my copy of Dark Souls is at home still wrapped up till December 3rd. :(
