Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition GamesCom trailer [update: new screens]

So, it's done but they're waiting until December for the console versions. I'm pretty okay with this; January is a crap month that I won't mind wasting my free time on Dark Souls.

Does anyone know if there will be a special 360 ptd edition like the ps3?

I'm going to say that From is the one handling that SKU so neither US/EU PS3/360 versions are getting it.

Retail release for consoles is already confirmed for JP and EU, in addition to the DLC. Only DLC for NA confirmed so far.

44 Divine Blessings, lol. Sums up current Dark Souls PvP. The early demo footage from pre-release was similar. Foreshadowing!

Edit: lol @ 4:05 in the video.

You know, I never understood this item duping glitch. Doesn't it require you to have 99 of the item in the first place? How the fuck does somebody get 99 divine blessings?

Are the high res shots supposed to be like that? Look like shit with much pixelation/weird edges.

Unfortunately, the PC version currently has a locked framebuffer of 1024x720 (same framebuffer resolution as the console version)

That version is now written off.

Maybe for you! I can't wait for the PC release. Disappointed with its limitations sure, but it looks to be the best version of the game regardless. Plus there's no way I'm waiting for the new content.

Man...the way Artorias moves...seems so aggressive yet fluid at the same time. Thats one thing I like about Soul series games, the enemy animations are all so detailed.

I laughed at the divine blessings in the demo too. I honestly have never used a divine blessing once. They fall into the "i'm afraid to use this rare item" category. Anyway, I think people either have a mule to get the 99 divine blessings, or they start with divine blessings as a gift, buy the BB, glitch, repeat. That must take forever though. It was certainly never intended to be an item that you can just pop willy nilly whenever you take any damage in PVP. I apologize profusely for using the phrase "willy nilly."

How will the DLC be executed? Seperate campaign, unlocked after completing the game or available from the get go accessed via an added passageway (that may or may not be locked until you beat the game...)?

It's like the
painting world
. It's available under certain conditions.

Trade amounts with people, mule them, BB glitch them, blah blah. It really doesn't take long. You can get 11 or so in one playthrough then BB glitch them in under 30 minutes to get 99.

Even if you started fresh with the Divine Blessings gift on a new account and BB glitched from that, it would take like under 5 hours to get 99. 5 hours is a long time, but nothing considering the effect it has on pvp.

Ok for all the people writing off the PC version, here's a report from someone who has experienced the game first hand at Gamescom

AAANNND because I feel we should have all the press, here's another positive preview of the PC version from Destructoid

http://www.destructoid.com/preview-dark-souls-prepare-to-die-edition-233137.phtml

From Software’s reasoning behind this is because they wished to offer an equal experience to its console counterpart, in terms of visual fidelity and gameplay

This line of reasoning just makes me saltier...

Oolacile looks like a pretty basic area from that gamesradar walkthrough. I'm really worried I'd just blast through it in two hours or less.

OTOH, the rep just confirmed that there is a special arena built solely for 1vs1, 2vs2, and battle royale. The free for all sounds like absolute madness, can't wait to try it out.

And yet it isn't equal anyway since we're getting a smoother frame rate.

So why didn't they just let us have the game render at our monitors native res? If they really wanted everything to be fair and equal then they'd cap blight town at 15fps and make you drop to the single digits at random times.

Eh, sorry, but those are pretty terrible impressions. Also, whoever's buying the "equal experience to console" is gullible beyond help...

Well-intentioned release? lol

Or you know, to play the game on a system they have, not everyone has a console. Or to play the game to have fun on the system they prefer. Not everyone gives a rat's ass over the things you're all bitching about. Oh I miss the days when it was just play video games and have fun.

Whatever dude, you don't try in the slightest to understand what the problem is and accuse us of bitching like we're complaining about a shallow thing. It's not, it's like FOV, it ruins the game for a lot of people, it can give you a headache, and it's inexcusable in this day and age.

I don't deny the reasoning and the lack of the resolution and fov stuff is stupid, not once have I dismissed the stupidity of it. But I'm not going around calling it the worst port ever, and wishing financial troubles on From Software for following an online petition. Is it going to be a terrible port? By pc 'standards' sure, and I'll stand in line saying it should be better. I guess I'm just lucky that I've been able to play games at their default FOVs and stuff and not get sick or anything.

Honestly for PCs I dont think having access to various settings was viewed as something not normal. It really is a valid complaint, in the same line that if...Borderlands 1 for example was locked at 30 fps on the PC, with no other graphic options aside from being able to change the screen resolution you know?

Both sides are getting a little out of hand, and while the port might be perfectly playable, I dont think that people complaining arent well within their rights either.

Those days ended when I had to start spending my own money on games, not my parents'.

Yeah, claiming it to be the "worst port in years", while I can see the rationale to an extent, is still ridiculously extreme to me, but this really does sound like a misguided attempt at parity from developers that come from a culture that doesn't really get PC gaming, even the shallowest levels of it. Or it's just a nice way of hiding the fact they had serious troubles upping the resolution/FPS, maybe we'll see once people start picking apart at the game.

However, this may just be my opinion but shouldn't this kind of talk be redirected back to the original previews thread? It'd seem nice to concentrate the bile there and let something like this stay at least somewhat positive.

True.

PC is in a lose-lose scenario right now, so really doesn't matter if the game does well or not. If it sells, we just said to FROM (and more importantly Bamco) you can give us a shoddy port and we'll still take it. They might make their next game a decent port, but I can't really expect anything from them after this. If it doesn't sell, Bamco will blame piracy like they always do.

I think complaining is the right move, give FROM flak, and if they don't see what did they do wrong, at least it's not our fault...

Wel maybe because I play my pc in a tv (a 58 inch panasonic plasma) but: I see little diference between 30 and 60 FPS, 720p and 1080p.

Resolution maybe, but I still find it hard to believe people cant tell the difference between 30 (Sonic Adventure 1, Halo 1/2, Soul Edge) and 60 (Sonic Adventure 2, Soul Calibur, Call of Duty, Time Splitters 2/3). Display really doesnt matter as far as that goes (as far as i'm aware).

I did complain, I signed the "improve the game petition" and even sent Namco a letter adressing my concerns as I mentioned earlier. The problem PC gamers have as I see it is they accept the binary options listed just now. Considering the port the game petition actually worked in this case. I see it as if we keep contacting them and voicing concerns, while proving the pc is a viable market for this kind of game, then we could break the binary choice and actually get closer to devs/publishers to release quality software on pc.

Wishful thinking? Oh most likely yes, but trying to do so is better than sticking to a webforum or two that anyone who actually matters in the industry most likely never looks at.

Complain away, I don't care if you do. I'm just saying instead of doing it here all the time, tell the companies themselves. Who knows, might actually get somewhere.

As for the framerate issue, I never had a problem with 30/60 being unplayable/playable and whatnot. Growing up on the Commodore 64/128, then the Amiga, and then PC, I've grown up with playable framerates being in the 20s, due to being a budget gamer, only within the last 4 years have I been able to play new games at solid 30s+ framerates at the time of release. Again I just must be lucky that kind of thing doesn't bug me. Nothing against those who it does of course, everyone is different.

I tried it today with resident evil 5, I can see the difference between 30 and 60 fps, 60 fps is better. But I don´t think that 30 fps is unplayable or something like that.

That idea I can get behind, though we're pretty much past delays or pre-release fixes. The main reason I really pop out is to tell people to wait on this, since Bamco and FROM have done nothing to convey the smallest of trust.

And I also don't feel as strongly about the 30 FPS lock (it's still bullshit, but it doesn't ruin my game) as I feel about the resolution.

I'm guessing you don't ever play games on consoles? Or do most console games give you headaches?

It's not my job to get them to get me to want to give them money. The best thing we can do is let this port bomb and laugh at them when they go out of business for being bad at their job.

Yes, let's hope the people responsible for making one of the best games this generation lose their jobs.

I already said the same thing on the first page, but some people still have their panties in a bunch so they will keep shitting any topic about this game.

They made one of the BEST games in recent years, the port sucks but it is easier a good port that a good game.

It isn't just what you see it is what you feel.

FPS limits the responsiveness of your character/avatar/whatever.

Unless the only videogame you play is Chessmaster I find it hard to believe you can't notice the responsiveness between 30 FPS and 60 FPS.

More likely you've just attributed it to lag, lack of optimization, etc., when all along it was the framerate that was doing it.

Great. It sucks I'll be missing out on a great game, but it's not my fault. Their job is to convince me it's worth playing over every other game on the market, and they've failed to do that, so I'll spend that money elsewhere.
