Darksiders 2: Definitive Edition Confirmed for PS4

Loved Darksiders 1. Wasn't a fan of Darksiders 2. With 1, War felt powerful and continues to get powerful as you progress. With 2, you're supposed to be DEATH, but you act as an errand boy for so long. I didn't get past all the stupid fetch quests ordered upon the protagonist.

I remember when people were laughing about the Wii U Port because of old game getting ported. And now everybody is "Oh cool, I will buy it" "Good, guess I will play it again."

This Industry.

People and everybody? None of what you says lines up or reflects on "the industry"

So you'd prefer they give games away then? Tell me more about your business model.
Unless there's a fairly notable upgrade to the game beyond just res/framerate, I think its a fair statement. You've been able to buy this game for $5-10 on PC for quite a while and it doesn't take a whole lot to play it at 1080p/60fps. So its a bit insane to suddenly start asking $40 for it from users of other platforms.

Hopefully it either includes the first game, or has some worthwhile updates to it.

Singular game remasters need to stop.

If you have other games in the series from the same generation, bring that shit over too.
Amen.

I was fine with TLoU, GTA V, and Tomb Raider, but remasters like Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, Dark Souls II, and now DarkSiders 2 piss me off because there is seriously no reason the first games of those series aren't included.

I know right. Like there hasn't been a single new IP or AAA game released in the last year. Ugh!

Took 110 posts before this post showed up. Getting rusty GAF.

No. There isn't. Every new game coming out is a remaster.

EVERY.

SINGLE.

ONE.

The "I hate remasters" crowd has uncovered this conspiracy that all of these new games coming aren't really happening and are just re-releases from last gen.

They know the truth.

Whatever y'all. Between all the cross gen stuff we're still getting and all the last gen stuff that gets remastered, I doubt I'm the only one who feels like this gen hasn't really even started yet. Maybe Darksiders 2 Remastered will fill the gap between DmC Remastered and DMC4 Remastered in your gameplay schedule before the inevitable Uncharted Trilogy Remastered is released. Maybe by then Master Chief Collection will be fixed?

This year looks better than last but I'm just tired of seeing this shit. Fuck me and my opinion though right?

Darksiders 2 was a good game and I'd like to think maybe this will lead to a sequel.
It won't.

The problem I have with your opinion and many others is that you guys have expectations of systems in their second year equivalent to a system in it's sixth year.

Compare this year to Year Two of the PS3/360 and you will see that we are getting a TON more new games than we did in Year Two for either the PS3 or 360.

I'm really starting to wonder if keeping new releases to 30fps is being done on purpose, so they can resell the remastered edition in the following generation.

I wouldn't put it past a single one of these greedy fuck publishers. And notice how they're pushing boundaries on giving you less for your money now? Like everyone should happily open their wallets again for 1080p/60fps.

Too many remasters have been barely better versions of the original, so I'm done getting excited for them. If it turns out great, cool. Darksiders 1 was a much better game than 2 imo.

Good lord man, c'mon. They are trying to push visuals on the systems they are built for - that's why they're 30fps. Its no surprise when later generation systems that are orders of magnitude more powerful can play them at twice the framerate.

"Can you restore the 1080p60?"

Look at how they've handled DLC. Think of who were dealing with and how we know they view us as whales.

I'm not against remasters, but you can see theyre starting to take advantage now. Ten bucks says Capcom will drag out Remake again on PS5 so we can have a 60fps version.

It should be one and two bundled together given how long ago both were released but this is Nordic.

I don't really think I'd be excited about the prospect of Darksiders 3 given how Vigil no longer exists. They were bought by Crytek and then recently had their project cancelled and were gutted to be a NA CryEngine support branch, weren't they?

I didn't play the second one, but while playing the first one I distinctively remember feeling to myself "Man, I wish they had more story cut scenes inbetween these long ass dungeons" Mostly because the plot only slowly progresses after each dungeon.

(And before you ask, yes I never played Zelda in my life)

Lol, how things have changed.

Really liked this game but not enough to purchase it again. Mabye if they had combined 1&2 with a big graphical update and now content. Buf it's just going the Darksiders 2 at 1080/60fps + DLC I'm not interested.

Hopefully we get a third on someday

I've always found "Oh yeah? Well it was even worse back then" to be a shitty counterargument to pretty much anything, but you may be right. Still, last gen was a big transition into HD development. What's the excuse here?

For the last time that's not how that works.

People keep saying this as if these remasters just spring forth from the ether, fully developed and packaged. Yeah, obviously it doesn't take nearly as much time to do this as it does a brand new game, but it doesn't change the fact that someone, somewhere is spending time working on this. And be honest--who here was waiting for the day a Darksiders 2 Remastered would be announced?

Somewhere like Bluepoint where the studio exists for contracted port jobs and never makes new games at all? I dont know whose doing the port job but doing in-house port jobs rarely happens and thus doesnt take resources away from new games.

From the Wikipedia for 2014 in video games, here are the next-gen remasters I encountered:

Tomb Raider
GTAV
Sleeping Dogs
Oddworld
TLoU
FFX/X-2
Halo: MCC

I was generous in giving FFX/X-2 since it was a generational "leap" from PS2 to PS3 as well as GTAV. That's six "remasters" out of how many releases? Hardly the torrent that should define 2014 as ". . .the year of Remasters".

Out of the dozens of games I played this year a staggering TWO of them were remasters.

Never got through this one entirely. But I'd consider this if the price ultimately is right and the frame rate is at least stable. I'm normally not a stickler for frame rate but I recall Darksiderd II getting a little chuggy at times.

Nordic should also really get the first game in with this one. I really enjoy the series and would like to see it come back so hopefully this is a step towards that.

Can we make new games instead of milking these games....

This stuff cracks me up. There are more games that come out each year than you could ever possibly play. People say the same shit about movies. "Another Jurassic Park? Hollywood has run out of ideas!". No. That is stupid. There is no shortage of anything, and remakes are not limiting anything in any way.

Plus, the money that gets spent would not likely significantly impact a new game anyway.
Throwing more money at game development does not automatically make a game better.
See AC:Unity.

I see it like this:

Remasters = Reworks (actual gameplay difference, touches to the textures, etc...)
Definitive Edition = PC Ports + All DLC (or if we're lucky, they're better)
Collections = More than 1 game.

DmC is called the Definitive Edition but by your definition it's a remaster since it's getting gameplay changes and some new modes.

Darksiders was my favorite series last gen. If 3 comes I would be so happy.

If 3 does come I'd expect something more along the lines of the original game as opposed to the interconnected open world setup of the sequel given Nordic's pockets aren't exactly deep.

Early parts of Darksiders 2 were okay but I felt like the game got worse as it went on. Loved the first game, was like a Zelda clone. Second one felt like a Kingdoms of Amalur clone

Really? Does this game need a PS4 edition?

I guess if it somehow revives the franchise, I'd be happy. Not that it wasn't a good game, but the port is unnecessary.

Get outta here with your facts! They have no business here. The publishers did not release any new games. All of those remasters contained mind-control messages that makes you THINK we got new games.

Oddworld is a full blown remake, not a remaster.

They should update the PC version too so you can actually run the thing at 60fps.

The big culprit behind performance issues is shadows, the option pertaining to which was patched in only after people complained about there being no graphics options aside from resolution and vsync. I made a few comparison images way back when and couldn't detect even the slightest difference between the highest and penultimate setting despite the very obvious performance penalty the former incurs.

Loved the first one but wasn't the biggest fan of Darksiders 2 thus never completing it. I'll gladly play this.

Couldn't give a fuck if isn't 60fps as long the framerate is at least a stable 30.

Darksiders 2 is loaded with Zelda-like dungeons that contain puzzles and items/abilities that open up traversal options and fighting abilities, just like the Zelda games and the first Darksiders. Amalur had none of that at all.

Such an amazing game if you have never played it and do not have the opportunity to play it on a pc you REALLY REALLY should play it on the ps4.

PC version in high res was already fantastic and I highly recommend it.
