David Wise Appreciation Thread of "OMG, David Wise is back for DKC:Tropical Freeze"

I pray to damn god they didn't bring Wise in to do some more remixes like DKCR(whose tracks I rather liked but still). I'd like to hear some NEW DKC tracks from David Wise.

Donkey Kong Land was actually Graeme Norgate, not David Wise. Some of the original stuff in that game was really impressive.

No, you're wrong. It was a mix of both David Wise and Graeme Norgate. They both did some tracks. I've got the exact track listing at home... I'll post it later if you care.

Aside from the choppy framerate, the recycled music was one of my main gripes with DKCR 3DS. I thought it was just a cheap nostalgia cash-in. The new tracks were pretty forgettable.

However, actually NEW music by Wise is really good news. David Wise and Tim Follin are my favourite western VGM composers!

Majorly disagree - the new tracks had some of the same dark groove as the Metroid Prime soundtrack (obviously) and were quite gorgeous. Added to the damp, steamy surroundings perfectly, and in that sense shares many of the strenghts of Wise's music. Should be a good combo.

Do you have a link? Maybe I need to check it out again. The Metroid Prime OSTs were brilliant, maybe I'll appreciate it more by listening to it a second time. (My patience with the 3DS port was very limited due to the framerate issues, so that might have contributed to that.)

Am I the only one that would want David Wise to re-score Donkey Kong Country 4 and then offer it as a patch for it on 3DS? So then it's one complete saga and doesn't have that one random game without the same magic he breaths into his games.

DKCR had a mix of classic and new tracks so I'm sure he'll compose some new ones, and I'm pretty sure he himself might want to do another take on some classics.

First of, thank's everybody for contributing! There are so many great songs, is hard to remember them all alone! ^^

It's great to see that much David Wise love!!

I see your DKC3 GBA Bonus Stage Theme and raise you DKC (SNES Version) Bonus Room Blitz

I think that's one of the best Bonus Level tunes I've ever heard in any game. It really makes you want find the Bonus Rooms even more :)
David Wise has so many catchy, good mood inducing tunes, it's great! Playing the Donkey Kong Games, it always felt like a nice day in summer! :D

Oh, and don't forget people: RETRO is gonna be KILLING it with the Level Designs/Cool Ideas/Overall Gameplay (just like in DKCR) + Dixy Kong is BACK + Soundtrack by David Wise = GOTY all years long!!!!! ^^

4. Cascade Capers (DKC3 GBA)
The GBA tracks in DKC3 aren't to be underestimated, they're an odd batch with some feeling more like Diddy Kong Racing and less like Donkey Kong Country but the ones in here that capture the old DKC style are among my favourites. Cascade Capers of course being the one that I feel comes the closest, i'm still impressed at how much Wise managed to pull out of the rather dinky GBA sound, anyway I really dig the strong piano in this track.
And if you can't abide the GBA sound the have a remix.

oh man, that's a sweet remix. Loved it.

Really glad to see that DKC1,2 SFA and DKR all are represented ITT. Awesome GAF as usual :)

I'd like to contribute some DKC mashups:

New tracks are of more importance, maybe they can shove in a DKC2 inspired world with some remixes (hell make it the Golden Temple equivalent for this game) but otherwise I want this entry to feel more brand spanking new across the board and new music is part of the process.
Give it the Kirby approach, they tend to have a lot of new tracks as well as remixing a few classics.

I had this one post highlight three of what I feel are more prime like tracks in the game so i'll just quote it here.
Numerous times in this game I feel like i've got Prime dipped in my DKC and it's nice.
In particular
Tidal Terror: Reminiscent of the deeper areas of Prime 2's Sanctuary Fortress at times, just with some funky jungle rhythm in the mix, also fits the DKC3 music style if I say so myself.
Furious Fire: It's really all to do with the chanting approach.
Final Boss Theme: My favourite new song in the game, straight up Prime like boss theme based upon one of DKCR's recurring themes.

I might be mad enough to prefer Water World to Aquatic Ambiance, I just really dig the whole mysterious depths vibe it has going, at any rate I do prefer the GBA remix of Aquatic Ambiance for that version of Water World.
Wise only did a small part of the original DKC3 soundtrack but I think one of them was Crazy Calypso and I find it catchy as hell.

I've always found Phendrana Drifts a bit similar to DKC3's Waterfall theme.
Hmm, there certainly is a bit of a similar vibe now you mention it, at least the more minimal approach around the beginning of both tracks before Phendrana truly kicks off.
Cascade Capers holds the distinction of being my favourite track in both versions of DKC3.

Do they plan on releasing the DKC games on the Virtual Console? Haven't played those games in a while.

I can only hope that they'll be flung onto the Wii U VC in time to promote the release of Tropical Freeze but their sudden removal from the Wii VC with no explanation leaves me wondering about their fate.
Dammit I just want to play DKC2 on the gamepad, headphones on, visuals looking sharp, a handheld version of the game that'd be miles ahead of the GBA port.

An absolute legend. So many great tracks in this thread. Really looking forward to this game and seeing what he comes up with, though I don't know when I'll pick up a Wii U.

David Wise is Based. Love him. My top 5 tracks are Bramble Blast, Mining Melancholy, Main Theme, Lava Beep Bop, and Factory something

Agreed. I hope they take the style back a step to that old 16 bit style, whatever it is. (Not that versed in music, so I don't know another way to say it.)

No In a Snowbound Land, GAF? Well, someone has to make up for this oversight.

Get some serious Genesis vibes from this one.

Edit: Oops, right in the first few replies. Didn't realize this went by Arctic Abyss.

Did you know it was inspired by Vangelis' Antarctica? I thought it was pretty cool.

David Wise inspired by Vangelis, no wonder the music is so freaking good.

I did mention it but it was listed in youtube as "arctic abyss", the names of the soundtrack are all over the place.

Oh fuck this is awful, have other games been removed like that?

I wish he composes NEW music for the game cause I hate the new versions of Returns. Honestly, we all now that the SNES compositions never needed a remastered version.

Based on new gameplay videos flooding around he composed NEW music for the game.

Hold on!......You're telling me 'David Wise' is composing the music to this game!?
Sorry if it sounds like- 'where the fuck have I been', but I genuinely never knew that, and why has this not been announced from the rooftops? I mean, its pretty big nostalgia wise and game music I feel is a big thing in helping you enjoy a game that little bit more. Where was the announcements for this? any links?
