DayZ - zombie apocalypse online FFA permadeath survival Arma II mod

Alone. In a land where few roam. Murder and bloodshed are yesterday. Although the ache of bullet wounds gives me caution as I move about these woods. Sheer rocks jut out of the earth. I wander past relics of a world no longer fathomable.

Towns are deserted. Neither man nor shamblers. In a barn I drop a flare, bringing light in the dead of night. A tire! But I cannot sacrifice supplies for this pipe dream. The flare extinguished, my exploration continues. Hoping to meet up with BS, liquid and static. Almost free of this town. Until I hear the wailing. Two shamblers are upon me. Upon me before I can draw my pistol to their head. I fire almost blindly. Down to one clip, reloading. Two more bearers of death find me. I run, clip still in my hand, lucky that it does not fall. I run. Eight rounds. A rifle slung over my shoulder that would beckon all the dead. I avoid my haven of the woods, lest I hit a tree in this darkness and the dead descend upon me. To the open field. Decisions. I turn. Firing I take down one. The other strikes me. I end it's walking reign of horror. Bandaged, consumed most of my food.

BS, liquid and static find me. Novy our immediate goal, hope for water.

Caution righteously reigns. At gunfire, we stop. No movement save for bunnies. I resume my role from the night before, covering with my rifle. They make the trek into Novy. Flares light the hillside. Oatmeal joins. Then shouts go out. Another group has pinned them in the church. After greetings are exchanged, the situation is diffused. We, five strong now. Shots ring out. We dig in once more. We run among trees. Watch for stalkers. Conceal our movement. Headed south. Few walkers in sight. Another night closes in the wilderness.

Guys what's the best thing to do when there's about 10 zombies chasing you when you have no ammo ?

I just couldn't shake them

I don't really play the game yet, but from what I've been seeing in videos all around the internet:

a) Find a slope big enough to make the zombies jump them down, like a hill that goes down and has a flat surface and a big drop. Go around and position yourself in front of the drop. They're dumb, they will come straight for you and die when they jump the slope.

b) find some vertical stairs (are they called ladders?). I Don't think zombies can go up them.

As far as I know, zombies can climb ladders (and swim).

Maybe, I've never seen anybody doing it and always wondered why. However, if you go up regular stairs, the zombies will follow you, although at a much slower pace. Maybe you can find some ammo inside a house, switch to that weapon/reload your ammo, prepare yourself and take pot shots at them while they're shambling upstairs.

Sometimes they can, depends on their pathing, but I think he's referring to steep sets of stairs like those in the firehouse tower. With how hard it is for Zombies to go up and down normal flights of stairs, I imagine the firehouse ones are impossible.

förbannade jävlar ryssar!!!

har inte träffat på en enda som inte är bandit och skjuter en i ryggen

Я разделяю твою боль, что бы это ни значало.

Don't do that!

The tower stairs are hella bugged. The zombies will stay on the first floor but they will still be able to attack you. Getting killed through 2 flight of stairs is not fun. :|

Well, that's a given for almost anything. I've been hit through just about everything in the game so far.

Yep, the zombies seem to be able to clip through everything. Sneaking past a building to then be bitch slapped by a zombie hand through the wall is kinda annoying.
I'm now paranoid of every wall in the game.

Sorry about the lack of non recorded voice but I just basically hit record on fraps. This wasn't a planned record session.

This is the culmination of a long, long journey with Broken/Irish just to meet up with gaffers in Grishino. Yes, I know it's dark and I had the gamma adjusted but even with that, the area was as you see. The sounds are enough to give you the impression of panic though. You could imagine how much more scarier it would be without mics so having comms is a must. All from 1.5.7 version of DayZ. The following ensued.

PART 1 of Operation GAF FAIL :P

P.S. Thanks again Oatmeal. Our light and beacon :P

Part 2 in an hour.

Part 2 GAF OPERATIONS

You can see everyone's chat from mumble pop up to give you an idea of who's there.

What's a better app for recording everything (including voice)? I have dxtory but just didn't have it open at the time.

I'm not sure why Fraps isn't picking it up. Give dxtory a shot, you can add a bunch of audio streams to it if you need.

You can also add several sources in Bandicam, plus it's not as heavy on game performance and even has options for recording settings, so no need to work with those raw files in 1:1

Muahahaha

I love how blunt rocket is.
I'd be super irritated if I were him. Sad just how fucking entitled gamers act these days, as if the entire world is in their debt.
I wish people would take a step back and think about how much Rocket has given them for free, this mod is in alpha, they aren't owed fuck all; and if they don't like it (or aren't patient enough to wait), they can take their little list of demands and start their own fucking mod.
Nothing has pissed me off more than this generation of demanding self-important whiny prima donna's acting like nothing short of unappreciative debutantes.

I urge people to use the "Contact The Team" page to let him and the team know you feel this way. The guys been getting nasty emails for the recent patch, so I'm sure it helps to have some positive stuff come his way. I sent one this morning and they replied within the hour letting me know they appreciated it.

How were they rushing in? I thought zombies started walking slowly when they enter buildings, so you can kill them more easily, and going outside will just mean suicide unless the zombies stay glitched (which happened to me when zombies walked through a building and doors and apparently got stuck in the slow animation)?

I didn't know this. Knowledge like this is what would ultimately make the game less interesting, as I was talking about earlier. The less you know about the game system the more interesting your experience will be.

They were running TO the door, so I bricked it and ran out in a panic. Not sure if they actually did run through the door or not, I was too busy legging it.

I pussied out.

Fire one CZ round in Electro. Then, they start yelling, there must have been at least a hundred. I dash to the fire station, get on the top assuming I was safe. Then, i see some of them getting up the stairs.

Logged out. :|

Er, you do realize there's been a guy "camping" the GAF group for the past week, right? People have been especially positive about it. My point was, that group in the bus got together solely to drive around shouting slurs at people and just generally being assholes. This game tends to weed those people out because you just don't respawn with all the tools needed to do that.

I wold be sad if GabeN. stopped hunting us. It keeps us always nervous. It's funny as half the time I don't know if he's lying when he says he sees us. He's become do good at hunting us down that it his mind games have started to work on us.

Yep. I've been connecting to different servers all day and not a single playable result.

Makes me wonder what kind of machine the main server/db is.. let me contribute ffs..

They quietly upgraded the server once, but I doubt they'll let people donate for a new one. Then there's the expectation of some kind of standard for service. It would only hurt them more.

Does the main server manage zombie&loot spawning? Could be a problem when there's loads of new servers and 10x zombies compared to 1.5.6

weird how the servers were fine yesterday, but alas it is an alpha. might just leave it alone for a couple of days.

Depends on the time of day. 12 PM - 4PM EST is prime time for both Euro and US. There are a lot of people who don't have to go to work.

Server side scripting deals with that.

I'm a programmer so I guess I have an OCD thing hardwired in, where I try to learn how things work in games and how to react to them. It seems like it would be tough to maintan a sort of eternal ignorance so zombies always make you panic or whatever. :P

Rolling 4 people deep last night at Devil's Castle someone named Marmalade starts taunting us on text chat calling us out by name and saying he's got his scope on someone's head. The area being short on loot we half-scramble to get out of there, not sure where this guy is. We head out towards the NW airfield and he knows immediately, calling out our direction in chat.

Due to some technical difficulties with the compass we get split up in 2 groups of 2. The group I'm with gets to the airfield first and waits on the eastern fence for the other half of our party, who somehow got separated and/or turned around.

Marmalade knows. "Better catch up procarbine!" He is messing with us hard, but no one can get a beat on him. Pro is determined to out-hunt him, but after a few minutes maybe he thinks better of it, because eventually we are regrouped at the airfield without incident.

Due to the increased zombie count we have to take things slower than we might have otherwise, carefully planning how to breach the hangars while alerting as few zombies as possible, all the while keeping an eye over our shoulders should Marmalade try and do something stupid like rush us.

As we are clearing out the eastern hangars we see Marmalade type "Going to be a 10-man shootout on the airfield soon. Should be exciting for an audience if you want to come watch." There's only 4 of us, and I'm not bad at math. Either Marmalade is rolling with a crew or he is playing serious mind games. In either case, it's working. I'm paranoid as fuck, and still on my same character that spent hours yesterday going to Berez and back to retrieve my own loot and hit the hospital, there's no way I'm letting some punk take me down without a fight. So if that's what he's looking for, he's got it.

We make quick work of taking the firestation at the north end of the strip. We've got 3 men in the tower (roof, middle floor, basement) and 1 in the last hangar watching us as we look for loot. That's when I spot 2 bandits come up the strip and duck in the 2nd to last hangar just behind procarbine. I alert everyone and we are sent into a bit of a panic. My eyes are trained on the opening of the hangar, waiting for any sign of life. After a few minutes the first bandit reveals himself, prone with a sniper and shuffling sideways into line of sight. I call him out and we make quick work of him, Freakinchair on the roof getting credit for the kill.

What followed was 10 minutes of anxiety over bandit #2 while Alumnus on the bottom floor aggro'd a mess of zombies and was losing blood fast. We save him in the nick of time. Would have been faster but I am just too distracted by bandit #2. I decide to creep over to procarbine in hangar #1 so we can flush out bandit #2 in hangar #2. With a SWAT-like efficiency we get to the hangar, jump the corner and unison only to find... nothing. He's gone. Were my eyes playing tricks on me? Did he escape while we attended to the zombie hoard? Disconnect?? We'll never know. All that mattered was that we survived.

We circled the airfield, getting requisite PHAT LOOT, making our way south into the trees where we left some choice text chat shit-slinging for Marmalade (who never even worked up the nut to show his face) before going prone and logging off for the evening.
