same. i crouch to sneak around into buildings but for the most part i run to see whats there first. prone is a death sentence and only really useful when hiding before shooting another player.
In my opinion you need all ARMA 2 + OA on the SSD - my limited knowledge is that DayZ uses ARAM 2 + OA assets - in fact isn't the island part of OA? So therefore it'll be loading ARMA 2 + OA assets in game and this may be the issue.
PS sorry for all these delayed replies - trying to get up to speed these days in painful!

Server admins stick to the version sent to us by the DayZ team. They test specific beta patches with the mod as they realized it was causing issues. We won't be updating until they give us the go ahead with the newer patch.

So I decided to try and hop in DayZ, see what the fuss is about. Installed Arma 2 Free and Operation Arrowhead, the Six Updater and now it's downloading DayZ.
I am a noob by all means and do not plan to kill anyone, so if you see someone named Apostate in the server, please don't kill me.
Edit: Can't join, I find the US 38 Texas server but the BattleEye does not respond or something?
Also, how can I change my nickname? For some reason it shows my real name and I can't find the option anywhere on the client.

Personally I think setting up on a tall building is a bad idea. While you do get sight of most of the town you're also very exposed, even when you're prone. If there are any other snipers around chances are you'll die.

Just wanted to let everyone know I just logged into the server and the actual desktop performance was shit, so I fully rebooted the system. It's still iffy. I'm going to log a case with the hosting company.
After I move I'm going to look into switching our server to a dedicated set up.
I had just taken the server down, so it wasn't available. Should be back up now.
Click the Profile button in the main menu when you start ArmA. You can create another Profile or try to edit the one with your name. New profiles do not mean a new character, just a different name and settings profile.

I had to just that last night. I was telling the guys in the side channel about it. Slow loading just to get into the server. A reboot helped but it's not as fast as it was before.

Well, up until a while ago the message "You were kicked from the game: BattlEye client not responding" popped up whenever I joined any server.
Now it stopped, but the the past 10 minutes I am staring at a black Loading screen whenever I join any server.

Hospitals have bloodpacks and morphine. Towns with hospitals are Elektro, Cherno and Berezino.
Edit: To get blood by yourself, get matches, an axe, a knife. Then hunt animals, chop wood, make a fire and cook the flesh.
Edit: Don't forget that eating gives you blood back little by little. So if you've got enough food with you to survive, just eat stuff from the ground as you find it.

Creating a page-file @ 2GB seemed to do the trick. Looks like it did a lot actually, my framerate's higher and it doesn't complain on low RAM anymore (although I have 6GB).

It was all luck really. I found a ghilli suit but I was on a female character. So I stashed a tent somewhere with my DMR, FN FAL and my ghilli suit. Suicide. I'm running back to the tent, which is somewhere on the edge of the map, when I run into a camp of about 8 tents.
These people were loaded. They must be duping, because one tent had 3 AS50s in it, and 3 L85A2s. That wasn't all either. M4A1 CCO SDs, DMRs, M107s, 5 night vision, 5 ghili suits. More ammo than you could ever need.
So I called my friends into the server and we raided all of it. Now we are 4 man strong with all that gear. They also had an ATV stocked full of jerry cans and food/water. We took that and hid it. Logged in a bit ago and it's still there.
No longer will I go searching for guns the right way. Walking the edge of the map and finding tents is much more rewarding.

Hit up the deerstands if you're not near one of the major towns. If you are near one of the major towns, you could chance it and find one there, then proceed to get the fuck out. I usually have luck in the apartment buildings in the north end of Cherno. Usually there's a dead player or two there that had something decent, or there's a player you can kill with a hatchet that you can blindside.

Any place a person tells you is safe obviously isn't since they already know about it.
What you want is a tight cluster of pines in the middle of a forest, preferably in a fold of the terrain so that people have to be right on top of it to have a chance of seeing it. Stay away from the edges of the map and stay off direct routes between two points of interest.

Sorry, I couldn't find a clear answer so I will just ask here. I just got DayZ up and running again on my new rig yesterday (3570K and GTX 670) What are the graphics settings you want to use? I remember something about HDR and post processing effects when I last played a few months ago.

You'd think so, but at a distance the grass you're lying in isn't visible and you stick out like a sore thumb. Hiding in bushes and trees works better
I found a alt+f4 abusing bitch today. He was at a crashed heli and went through the stuff there. I hit him 3 times with my DMR before he even falls over, and then he instantly disconnects. Like any sane person would do, I decide to stick around and finish the job. After about 5 minutes the dumb bastard comes back and I finish the job. He tried to disconnect again (lol) but I got the server message that he was killed before he could alt+f4. His body disappeared and the kill didn't register, but his death was and that's all that matters. 
So if you see a guy called "Deadlift" and you want to shoot him, make sure it's a killshot. Otherwise he'll disconnect like a bitch.

I figure some people with high kill counts are f4 abusers. Is there a way to see player names before you kill them and see it pop up?
Edit: in the video above how the hell is that guy packing two primary weapons? I thought you could only carry one.
You can put a primary weapon in your backpack, takes 10 slots.
Thermal scopes are crazy.
And possibly game breaking, along with .50 cals.
It wouldnt bee so bad if they moved the thermal scope to its own thing. Like have a Binocs. range finder, and thermal scope. That way you had to choose what you would need and not have all of them at once.
