The Doom Patrol Blackest Night tie-in had
the body of Cliff Steele
fighting Robotman. I wonder if there's a similar idea at play here, where
Swamp Thing is one entity and Alec Holland is another

That's what I'm guessing as well, judging from the cover to The Search (and the fact that the figure in the image above is
a reanimated corpse, rather than the Swamp Thing we're familiar with).
It doesn't sound like a very good idea to me, but maybe they'll pull it off somehow.

Since they created him?

Aside from general nitpicking since Swamp Thing was conceived in House of Secrets and didn't begin to touch on what you're referring to until late in Moore's run, unless the spoilered character was reestablished after Moore (and I can't find evidence of this) then he is not part of The Green because
the Alec Holland corpse in the swamp is not Swamp Thing
.

It was speculated early on that Swamp Thing and the Vertigo charecters would return to the DCU in brightest day. In addition to Swamp Thing and Death there will be several vertigo characters featured in Flashpoint including my boy Shade The Changing Man.

Holy shit...

Why didnt I realize that sooner?

Finally read the issue. This is kind of weird for me. The whole elements thing is a little weird, and I'm a little foggy (even though I've picked up all of Brightest Day), but the White Lantern
is only concerned with life on Earth, right?
Its funny, cause when the
black lantern entity came to life in the forest, I thought, "That thing looks like Swamp Thing, is it? Then the last page proved me wrong. So is that Black Lantern anything or just a new entity?

I've always thought that it was the death of Gwen Stacy that marked the end of the Silver Age.

This. I quit Brightest day after about six issues, knowing something big would come down later and I'd regret it. But this isn't it.

i think it's obvious Swamp Thing will show up now, but that certainly isn't him.

White Lantern? Does this mean there will be a White Power Ring to go along with the comic? I have all the other rings already, so I guess I need this too.

The black lantern creature (called the Dark Avatar in the book) is
Swamp Thing's dead body.
Thats why the white lantern even says "This being was once green now it has been taken over by the black". This could also be a metaphor since
Swamp Thing
was one of the first charecters to become "grim and gritty" in the 80s.

What will probably happen next issue is
Alec Holland will be brought back to life with the White Lantern and then destroy what ever is controlling swamp things husk and remerge. I mean it clearly says at the end of the issue "NEXT: The return of Swamp Thing" and they have been hinting at this for a year now.

There already is. Has been for a while. The NYCC even had light up versions.
