It needs to be Batman. But I know they won't do it.

I'm going with the popular opinion of Aquaman... nobody likes him anyway, right?

BTW, I'm gay and I totally like Aquaman :P Gays love the water.

If not him then I'm gonna say Nightwing because... come on... he was a fucking acrobat. Nuff said.

*edit* oh a character not seen since the new 52... well that sucks then... still, wonder who it'll be.

I can put up with a lot of shit in comics. But basing a character around their race or gender or sexuality is shit that pisses me off.

I hate the big announcements like they're proud of themselves or something. When they did Batwoman I automatically hated her. She's cool though...

I dunno man. They went out of their way to not announce his exact race so as not to play it up, but the reporting zeroed in on that anyway. And knowing Bendis has adopted minority children is important context as well. I don't think that's tokenism.

why isnt it tokenism? there are plenty of black characters that could use a good writer to get their names out there. but instead, they decide to pump effort into miles, who being a spider legacy(a first) would be popular anyway. characters like photon, blue marvel, and brother voodoo are still basic unknowns which is a shame. dc seems to be better in that regard.

Since these characters are predominantly white, when you get a chance to reboot and make them someone else, I think it's just really creepy when people get mad that the new character isn't the same race as the old character. He is a DIFFERENT PERSON.

then why stick to the same identities at all? its a reboot, so do just that. mix everything up.

I think Marvel handles minorities better. I mean Luke Cage was a joke up until a few years ago. You got Striker, Raptor, Lightspeed, and Hazmat in Young Avengers.

Ultimate spiderman comics happened to be a very good book and they give it a perfectly good reason why he pick up the identity of spiderman. I'm not sure what your problem, do you dislike the fact that miles is a minority, or are you upset that peter parker died so they need a new spiderman.

No. One of the recent writers said the "concept" of Bruce/Batman is gay. He was mostly talking out of his ass though. Trying to develop the idea as he thought of it, I think, because it didn't make much sense.
I'm a huge batman fan (aren't we all), but to me batman makes more sense not as a gay character, but as a pedophile. He was traumatized in his youth and had a shortened childhood as a result... this can do terrible things to a person, just look at Michael Jackson (NOT saying he was a pedophile, though there are strong indicators of it; in any case he clearly has peter pan syndrome). That coupled with how he always teams up with very young males who have little to no family... And these are only the broader signs. I'm sure there've been countless essays written about these theories :)

Batman taking in kids to fight crime is no way pedophilia. he has a better track record of taking kids off the streets then the Boys and Girls club.

ill give it to you on luke cage, but im gonna hold of on the teen heroes. they seemed like they were gonna try to push reptil, but nothing came of that. and julie is a minority?

im upset that they didnt popularize a new minority superhero instead of piggybacking him to an already popularized identity.

He starred in the Superhero Squad. Julie is bisexual and just hooked up with Caroline from the runaways. They also have White Tiger and Whiz Kid.

How many kids die from participating in the Boys & Girls club? Not counting when they get resurrected many years later. That would sure fuck with their family's heads.

What about Cloak?

Bishop seems to be only comic book character who's mythos doesn't revolve around his race.

You ahve to grind to make a minority character popular in comics. You push him hard and people complain about shoving him down their throat. You have to build them up over years like Black Panther, Amadus Cho, and Luke cage.

Was this really necessary? I mean it'd make sense if they made every superhero that existed before gay rights dubbed as straight. I'd bet Wolverine is gay. Someone from Watchmen is probably gay, too.

Batman didnt suffer from sexual trauma or physical abuse. If you were a "huge" Batman fan like you claim to be you would also know why Bruce adopts the children. He does it because he doesn't want those young men to become like him.

what about static? milestone was beyond dead and gone before his series came to light. it would have been easy to have any teen as a superhero as dc has a catalog of dead ones to use, but static out of nowhere it seems got a cartoon, and popularity built on top of it.

Yeah exactly. I don't care about the gender, race, or sexuality of a character, but I hate when it is forced into a character in order to gain attention.

Honestly, these kinds of moves make comic book companies look like they don't give a shit about the integrity of their characters, and just force these aspects in for the press. (probably true)

Then why doesn't he adopt any girls!
And don't question my love for Batman :P You haven't seen my mancave.

Static is a good example, and Mr. Terrific. Even though Mr. T's series made some people lose their damn mind.

And then later have a writer ruin the character. I'm of course talking about Hudlin writing Black Panther.

Yup. I was actually quoted on the Ultimate Spider-Man thing a while back. It was a bit more fiery than I would have been comfortable with (my comment, I mean), and not something I wanted to be publicized for though... not under my real name or anything, but still.

At any rate, I really would prefer just making good characters and letting the fact that they're minorities (sexually or racially) come naturally afterwards. What they did with Spider-Man was blatant pandering, but I've still yet to read those.

I dunno. I don't want it to be this forced.

He adopted the last, 2nd best Batgirl. Cassandra Caine, because her dad was a murderous sociopath who was training her to be a killer. In fact, my memory is muddy, but I think she was the only one he actually encouraged to be Batgirl, the others he always tried to discourage them or make them wash out, and only accepted them after they proved themselves.

I miss scary Batgirl. *sigh*

Bring her back DC, Wally and Cass too

wally and cass yes, spoiler can remain in limbo longer than donna troy

i loved cass. such a no nonsense character.

Wally being gay also seals the deal on his children never coming back.

He is by far the most popular character not already re-introduced into the universe. He was in Justice League Unlimited.
